Rudy during 9/11 comes to mind, CA wildfires come to mind, I remember the Bastrop fire pressers being informative, that’s just off the top of my head.
Which fires? There were 2. And HEB and USAA were there before the state

This is 100% their playbook. NWS actually did a very good job at alerting. Blame everyone and accept no responsibility. We are governed by a cabal of 13 year old minds. I cannot be any more clear, everyone will suffer from this incompetence. Good job merica!
Come on man. CR this shit. Some of us care about news.

So, firstly I'm gutted by this tragedy.
But speaking as a lifetime mariner who has depended on NWS broadcasts for literal decades, I would say there are better options these days. I would certainly not tell anyone don't have a NOAA radio, I have multiple ones every time we leave the dock, but look at all the options.
Absolutely. I have other gear. But for the average user, they work and for 30 bucks get one. Shit, that is a good mexican dinner.
For us they are plug and play. We use them, they break, we get a new one. But we always have one ready. Redundancy.

These are the ones I run. Have one in the bedroom, one in the vehicle and each kid has one. I also maintain a back up in my oh shit bag.

Would advance warning have helped in an emergency where seconds can determine whether people live or die? In this case a "life threatening" flash flood warning issued at 1:14AM for Kerr County. If there is no cell service and you know there's no cell service the way to be weather aware is by keeping a NOAA weather radio that will receive those warnings.
If you do not have a NOAA radio you are a fool.

That is odd. I have received a few.

Just got back from the area. The storm really messed up that hunt/ingram/centerpoint stretch. It’s total devastation. I have family and friends that are completely stuck just waiting on the national guard to come get them.
This is like a mini version of what happened in North Carolina/appalachia earlier this year. Us Texans can knock this out and get these people what they need. They’re dealing with losing loved ones.
Roads. Can you tell me about roads? Not here cuz it might offend people. DM me please.

Yeah. I will not be posting any more of the other ones. The one I posted was confirmed by her family. There are too many. One is too many. This is a bad night. And the fact that in the presser they did not immediately talk about Camp Mystic spoke volumes. It’s as bad as we thought. God bless them all.
sorry if I got snippy. That will be the last one I post. As far as a RIP announcement.
Why would you even post that? Come on. Don't you have enough targets?
On this one Nicole, take a fucking knee. This is not lifetime, this is life. We have members hurting. Don't post. Go get a broom and about 4 boxes of trashbags and meet the team out there.
Let those who need to grieve grieve. You and me, plus our community, help them rebuild.
Oh, and sandwiches. Don't forget sandwiches.

Sorry, I hate I was taught to do this.
1. Do not overreact and try and rush in. We have Surly's there. Let them guide.
2. What people need is usually not what we think the need.
3. I am not kidding about clean water. The first think I tossed into my kit for monday were life straws. That is 100K gallons. Their water is fucked.
4. Don't send shit you want to get rid of.
5. Do not send medicine. At all.
6. Simple food.
7. Uno.. A great game. Fathers and Mothers worry about the impact on their kids. they overthink it. A game of UNO evens that.
Not trying to be a dick at all. I apologize.

As we start to see reality, and we all want to go in. Don't. Monday-Tuesday. Yeah, it sucks. But don't.
Do not start sending cash to groups, especially one like Nicole posted who used a Blackhawk in the post.
Just don't.
This shit ain't done.
But don't give cash or donations to ANYONE right now.

interesting radar track of Barry, thing disintegrated in northern Mexico, crossed the border and seemed to almost reorganize some. Kinda wicked.
Yep, that is what brings rain to Texas. And we pay and suffer.

I agree with the sentiment, and in a known case of "this flood will happen and it will be catastrophic" throwing everyone in the back of pickup trucks is clear and obvious yes.
but you also have to look at the other side of the coin.... the side where the rain doesnt come down as hard and the major flood doesnt happen, but one of those personal trucks with 5 kids the back of the truck, takes a turn too wide, loses control and flips over and kids get hurt..... and suddenly everyone is screaming why the fuck were pickup trucks taking kids out of the camps??? and shit goes sideways in that situation as well.
thats the scenario that causes so many private entities and government agencies have to wait till the last minute to make a stay or go call.
Oh bullshit. Local and regional planning has been going on for a long time. Hell I ran a team to work in Houston building regional response centers. How do you get assessment people in fast.
You can easily customize these to an area. You will never be perfect but you will be very close.
In Texas, the counties do not want to pay for it.

Spoke with my MET guy. That little cell west of Midland could be fun tomorrow.
He is pretty damn good. Not Jim Spencer, but did run MET over SW Asia for 10 years. Fucker can spot storms.
