  1. The idea God needs you to submit to and worship him is a very human narcissistic character flaw. If there’s a heaven, surely God is above such nonsense.

I’ll say it, he sounds like a major asshole. He, an omniscient being, allegedly makes imperfect creatures who break his bullshit rules, which he must have known would happen. Then they are told if they constantly suck his three headed cock, they will get into this magical place and live happily ever after.

    Sure.

  2. Having spent 10 years in O&G and now in large construction, I can tell you there was a shitload of cost controllers/project controllers etc that were not accountants. Ymmv of course, but a business degree in finance, accounting (of course) and even general was common.   Having enough sense to know the core business and what we do is nearly as important.

I am project controls. I have two degrees from Texas...wait for it...RTF and History. Lulz. This is my second career and have been doing it for 10 years. I feel for that amount of time I am making a pretty decent living, although I am not overly ambitious (happy to just be a lead and not a PCM). In my group currently there are no accountants or engineers. A few with construction management degrees though. I work for a fairly large EPc (yes, small c) firm with offices all over the world.

More on topic, the accountants on our job, and at the company in general, seem to have it relatively stress free (especially compared to us in project controls/management). We used to work 4-10s (FUCK I MISS THAT), but now 9/80. I don’t know how they are paid, but they seem to be doing alright.
  3. I got 86,000 miles on my last set of Michelins.  It started to get a little unsettling the last week they were on my truck. I had no idea I had put that many miles on them until the Discount Tire guy started laughing when I asked how much I put on them and he looked it up.  86k on 70k tires. Nice!

    Yep. Always Michelins. Always.

  4. Fuck that. Foo Fighters are on the same level of Nickelback. Spare, generic band that cranks out simplistic songs for the radio.

Yep, the chubby chaser is right. Slight hyperbole, but pretty much.

Eric Clapton agrees. Eric Johnson, not so much. In context of grunge, though, I gotta agree 1000%. Nirvana wasn't great because of talent, but they were great.

Agree on your take on Nirvana. Eric Clapton is so fucking boring and overrated though. He should have put the guitar down in 1971.

*The Big Lebowski is the most overrated movie ever.

*we cant get negged for posting in this thread, right?

Yes, this is an unpopular and just wrong opinion.
  5. Holy shit...just finding out about this band out of Seattle called Helms Alee. Wow, I am really digging their stuff. And since I am late to the game, there is a lot to listen to. Unfortunately, I can’t find a few of my favorite tracks on YouTube to post, but their bandcamp has them all. I suggest tracks 8 and 11 off their latest “Stillicide”.

Here is one from another album:

  6. I was thinking someplace like Kerrville would be nice. Smallish, but has amenities like good grocery stores and movie theater. Not a bad drive to Austin for games, nor that far to an airport in San Antonio. But I am sure a lot of folks that grew up there hate it. Maybe Uvalde?

  7. Love me some el rancho. Go to Maudie’s instead.

Ive never understood the hype for Maudie’s. It seems like your average Tex mex joint that’s all cleaned up and presentable. Enchiladas y Más or death.

Saw Sleep @ The Waiting Room in Omaha on Saturday night.

    Set list;

    1.Dopesmoker

    2. Holy Mountain

    3. The Clarity

    4. Dragonaout

    5. From Beyond

    6. Cultivator/Improved Morris

Was fucking fantastic.  Before they take the stage they start with like 15 minutes of radio chatter from the Apollo 11 mission culminating with "the eagle has landed" and then Matt Pike started in on Dopesmoker.  So good...

That sounds bad ass. Too bad they aren’t coming through Houston (or maybe I missed it). Looks like Melvin’s will be here in May.

The Whores show was awesome. Turned me onto this band from KC called Bummer. Really digging their stuff. Kind of remind me of KARP.

I took a few photos that I posted in the photography thread in “hobbies”.

  9. Go try the new and improved PCBBQ and tell us what you think

A friend of mine stopped by. Said it was good, but not like the day the group of us (with Ldogg) stopped by the old place. I will check it out though and let you know.
  10. Tried Killen's yesterday for the first time.  I live in NW Houston, so Pearland is a trek.  I apologize for the crappy photo.  There is more food there than it appears.  Plus I had some bread putting (pretty meh).  Anyways, brisket was very good.  Sausage was ok.  Decent spice, but casing was pretty tough.  I don't see going back as there are a few places that are as good or better that are much closer to me.  If I lived down that way, I would probably be eating there fairly often.

I went to Truth for the first time a couple weekends ago and it was fantastic. The jalapeno cheddar sausage was worth the 45 min wait, IMO. Even the cole slaw looked like they spent years perfecting. The free beer with tips was a nice touch, too.

Curious what you ordered both times you went.

My first experience there was good, but occasionally while eating the brisket, we would get a bit that was way too salty.  Other times, it was great BBQ.  The second time we went, it was amazing.  One of my top BBQ meals.  The blonde gal working the register wasn't hard on the eyes either.

What do y'all Houstonians know about Willow's? It just came across my radar for the first time today, hadn't heard of it before.

I have had his BBQ 3 times and thought it was very good to great.  Nice guy.

  13. You should see what’s on your wife’s mind when I slap that meat on her.

But seriously, you are missing out on a lot of good places in Houston. I am one to talk as there are two I haven’t tried but need to, thinking about knocking killens of that list tomorrow.

  14. My wife ended up getting tied as a ‘while we are in there’ sorta thing due to requiring a c-section, else I told her I’d get snipped the first day of the NCAA tourney.
Too bad you’re right on the short notice, I think even I’d watch The Masters if I was recovering from that.

So did my wife. But I still think there is a chance she told the doc to 86 the procedure and she is trying to trick me.
