Texas Men's Tennis 2023

Braswell was allowed to finish his match, so Texas won 5-2. Hell of an effort to win 5 singles matches against #3 TCU. We’ll most likely meet them again in the Big 12 tournament final, and it wouldn’t shock me if we face them for the 5th time this season in the NCAA tournament.

TCU wins 4-1.

We ended up splitting matches this season with TCU (2-2) and Ohio State (1-1) so it will be interesting to see who the NCAA committee gives the #1 seed to.

Committee always seems to go straight off the computer rankings (unless the adjacent team has the winning H2H). Texas should mathematically keep the top position in the computer rankings.

Just to let y'all know how tough Texas' schedule was: all but one team (UCF) are likely to qualify for the NCAA tournament

Texas or TCU likely to share SMU, UTSA, and A&M Corpus Christi in their draws. Real question is how stingy the NCAA committee will be- will they send A&M to TCU or Texas to save transportation cost despite A&M being in the top 20?

That’s pretty wild, and UCF gave us one of our toughest tests of the year. Hopefully the venue wasn’t the issue for our play against UCF because that’s where the national championship will be again at the USTA national campus for both men’s and womens. Hopefully tennis channel won the broadcasting rights like they did in 2021. Wasn’t a fan watching  via the TennisONE app in 2022

Sorry to burst that bubble...

First ever #1 overall seed in program history. TAMUCC, Pepperdine, UTSA coming to town

16 seed is UNC, hosting Drake, Utah and Old Dominion

South Carolina is the 9, Tenn is the 8 in our quadrant

Tamu-CC's Line #1 singles player, Avery Zavala, is brother of Texas-Ex Josh Zavala, who played under Coach Center from 2006-2009. If you read Josh's old bio on TexasSports, it shows that Avery at the time was listed as being 6 years old. Quite the age gap between the brothers from Amarillo

I’m at the match. Doubles was intense but awesome to pull through with the point. Radar not looking great so they cleared the stands. Big rain now. Gonna be a decent delay unfortunately. Texas has a good crowd making noise plus the girls team obviously there cheering on the squad.
