Posted in dumb amnesty thread, but may be a bit more interaction over here....

I have a battery pack that holds 12 AA alkaline batteries (in series) that are all testing between 1.28 - 1.31V.  However, when I test the pack, I am getting 8.08V.  I am sure there is some resistance, but to drop the average to .67V / battery seems excessive.  Am I calculating this wrong?

Is the expected voltage printed on the case somewhere, or do you know what it should be?

Even with internal overhead (bare minimum), unless it is purposefully designed to output only 8v, it sounds like may be defective. Assuming all batteries are up to snuff, which seems to be the case.

I bet the pack has 6 batteries in series and the two groups in parallel so you end up with the 8 volts

What does it go in?

Yeah, that's the likely answer.  Good call.
