there’s been such a deluge of rampant lying and misinformation coming from trump and his camp that politifact couldn’t even nail down their usual “lie of the year”, and had to instead throw a blanket over the entire “year of the lie”. i guess that’s just what happens when the adults are back in charge.

“people have become numb to the drumbeat of misinformation.” god damn that is sad and dangerous.

Lying has become easier, as tools have made it possible to create things that appear to be real and authentic, that support the lies.

So there’s more to it than confirmation bias, there’s an uncertainty that anything you see, hear, or read is genuine. In such an environment, there is no distinction between truth and lie.

In addition, the most maga people I know are also the ones who most easily fall for scams/hoaxes/absurd lies etc. It's a really bad combination.

"Red Five, did you hear about them eating the dogs and the cats??"

But for some reason they only immediately believe certain things, while you cannot get them to believe other things regardless of the evidence presented.

and now the majority of our news media are spouting trump propaganda nonsense 24/7, or are on their way there. watch how all of those same magats go from “you can’t trust the media all they do is lie about trump”, to, “everything i believe is true, and i know because cbs said so.”

Yep, can’t forget those who willingly, reflexively, swallow the lie. The Year of the Shiteaters.

it certainly is dangerous. we've gone past "there's too much shit on the wall to tell what the truth is" to now "i just don't care", at least thats how I assume many of us feel. And that is from the exhaustion of pointing out the obv devils and not making a dent in anyone's viewpoints. The society as a whole is sick to its core. Critical thinking is long dead, we are now at critical exhaustion IMO, at least I know I am.

The netflix documentary Cover-Up about Seymour Hersh is pretty instructive about how journalists should be, and how we all should feel about the lies,, but it certainly shows the cost of being that way.
