It's the norm out here.  House to garage doors MUST be self-closing.   And of course, everybody has a rubber wedge or other doorstop to hold the damn thing open.

Yeah every region picks and chooses the codes they do or don't enforce.

I've never had a locality require a self closing device on any residential door application. Multi family adjacent to Parking decks is the only time I've encountered that requirement.


The cities can adopt or exclude any part of the code. We have needed the self closing device on attached garage doors for years to get our C.O.
