  1. Same. The song we always played at camp is on a loop in my head: Friends (are friends forever.) I’m just gutted. I know many of you are too. I need to watch an action movie or something. hugs to all…💔
  2. We need a crying reaction thing. I didn’t tell my cousins about this report bc I didn’t want to get the hopes of their two friends each missing a mystic camper up. I thought if it’s true it would not be campers from mystic, as it stands right now neither girl my cousins’ friends are looking for has been found. It’s soul crushing.
  3. A tiny note on hill country summer camps from my experience as a camper (most of you it sounds like are fairly familiar with what I am saying): For me, Waldemar was magical place that was not just a place for me to learn to be independent from my family but also to learn a couple of new skills. learning to be reaponsible and being assigned tasks and having to make my bed every day and clean my cabin. Learning to make conversation at the dinner table and learn proper eating etiquette lol. I learned to do things I would never have had the opportunity to do had I not gone. Archery, badminton, canoeing, drama, fencing, all sorts of shit. It wasn’t just about making friends or building my self esteem. It was also learning life and survival skills and also an appreciation of nature and a chance to grow in my faith. as a counselor I got my lifeguard certification in the Guadeloupe River. Jumped in with boots and jeans and a long sleeve button down shirt. Had to make flotation device out of my jeans and also dive for white bricks at the bottom of the river. the task before our searchers is one I cannot fathom and I wish them all god speed and good luck and hope and pray for a rescue or two and not just a recovery. May every person be found. please. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
  4. The main thing is the necessary aircraft they couldn’t bring in yesterday are coming in now and tomorrow. Something to do with weather and flight patterns and other things as to why they were not there earlier, these are equipped with things even better than FLIR which is how it’s being described. So if there is someone to find and be rescued or sadly recovered they can get better eyes on them.
  5. Just hit an inch of rain here in the 15 minutes since it started pouring like a mofo, fuck,
  6. It’s fucking pouring in 78717 please let it be brief.
  7. It seems like that is real. As to where the wall of water is I don’t know. Additionally, as others have said there also appears to be more rain headed to that area that doesn’t need it whatsoever.
  8. Yes the EMS guy mentioned getting the notifications during the latest press conference about this wall of water. Holy fuck, be safe. Kerrville just now getting another flash flood warning. hopefully everyone gets to safe ground.
  9. Well shit I just watched an interview with a camper (she’s about 10 or 12 years) and their cabin was woken up by other campers whose cabins had flooded. She said the last thing she did was to put her camp name tag on bc she was scared and in case if she was swept away that her name tag would be found on her body, the camoer’s name is Callie Bradburn. She has lost friends. She wants everyone found. She had hugged some of the missing the night before. Still hopes for a miracle, I am in awe of all the quick thinking of these little bitty girls. And also… fuck…🥺
  10. The EMS guy from the presser needs to handle all of them. Additionally, he was getting updates about a new wall of water they are trying to confirm. EMS dude explained so much in a way that people need to hear. Also warning look seekers to stay the fuck out bc you don’t know the area and could find yourself in peril or in the way. It won’t take much rain at all to create another disaster bc ground is saturated,
  11. Probably one of the only times I am rooting for the forcefield dome.
  12. New presser coming at 2:30 pm with some updates. I know much of the numbers will change and it will mostly be bad but I still hold out for any type of good news. Feels foolish but it’s all I have.
  13. Thought I would put this here also for more eyeballs.
  14. This image will stick with me. The searchers are seeing things we go out of our way to avoid. I am praying for any type of miracle as Homesick Horn posted in the rain thread he is trying to confirm two girls being found alive near Centerpoint but no clue if connected to Mystic or not. Donate, search if you are able and continue to pray or send your good thoughts. That’s all we have left is the cleanup and the aftermath and a tiny bit of hope in the face of numerous pieces of bad news that continue to pile up.
  15. Oh goodness. 🥺🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
  16. Damnit all to hell. That um…I am still waiting on word of two of the little girls. This…holy shit. 😢 fuck.
  17. I keep hearing Flash Flood Alley and most dangerous flood plain in the US. Yet a community that makes quite a bit of money from tourists and campers and their parents in the months most likely to have flooding did not want to pay for a warning system bc it was too expensive. It reminds me of the movie Dante’s Peak where a town resides in the valley of a volcano. 🌋 Of all the things I have heard of the past couple of days I think this stubbornness that “well it floods a lot here but it won’t ever get that bad” mentality was a ticking time bomb. It is the mentality. ————————— Camp Mystic sits on a strip known to locals as “flash flood alley.” “When it rains, water doesn’t soak into the soil,” said Austin Dickson, CEO of the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, which was collecting donations. “It rushes down the hill.” Decades prior, floodwaters engulfed a bus of teenage campers from another Christian camp along the Guadalupe River during devastating summer storms in 1987. A total of 10 campers from Pot O’ Gold Christian camp drowned after their bus was unable to evacuate in time from a site near Comfort, 33 miles (53 kilometers) east of Hunt. ————————— power of nature + local mentality that they will never have the ultimate disaster despite living in their words the most dangerous flash flooding alley in the US is the main factor (not the only one) but it seems that way to me. We all know there are other factors. But this was a disaster waiting to happen. And it seems like the locals owed in my mind their tourists, their campers and families of the campers on the backs of whom they make a healthy monetary cash influx an early warning system in that county to keep them all safe. And now July 4th will be symbolic for tragedy. And they didn’t want to spend the money on a necessary system that could have spared many of the deceased who aren’t even old enough to vote, and in many cases aren’t even big enough to ride most of the rides in theme parks. that’s how I see it. I’m pissed and hurt and like many of you need to take a break from the tragedy and find some peace. There has been zero word from my two cousins (who each have a friend missing a child) on the two girls that have not yet been found. Keep praying for a miracle despite all evidence to the contrary. The numbers are rising.
  18. One of the camp counselors who was there Katharine Somerville (I think I got the spelling right from the tv) and she is a Hunt, Texa native is describing the event. And just how isolated they were until they were eventually rescued by the National Guard. She has been in touch with all of her campers, they all survived. All of those that were moved to Cypress lake are safe (which we knew.) she said she feels confident her community is resilient and will be able to rebuild. That’s it really. She teared up when speaking of Mr Eastland as being a father figure and hero to many.
  19. Some meteorologist this morning put the 26 feet of water in 45 minutes into perspective for me as basically it’s 6 inches of water per minute. All hell is breaking loose outside from a roaring river while water on the inside of your abode is rising half a foot per minute. Most of y’all get all of that, it just helped me to see that in terms of visualizing that. 😢💔
  20. This tracks with much of what I have heard from people who have saying it is basically two full cabins of Mystic girls. Some of the camper eyewitness accounts seem to support this. There are no words. None. 😢 💔 Still Hoping and praying for a miracle. A miracle is all that’s left. Most of you are damned good people. Glad to see all the Surlies in motion. If y’all make the trip tomorrow to Centerpoint to help with the search and rescue/recovery it is sorely needed and found in the How you can help thread. Godspeed. ❤️‍🩹🙏🏼
  21. Is it gonna pour on us (Austin area) a bit today?
  22. SIAP but this is just one piece of the puzzle in this unfathomable weather tragedy. From The NY Times: In an interview, Rob Kelly, the Kerr County judge and its most senior elected official, said the county did not have a warning system because such systems are expensive, and local residents are resistant to new spending. “Taxpayers won’t pay for it,” Mr. Kelly said. Asked if people might reconsider in light of the catastrophe, he said, “I don’t know.” —————————— Kelly is the individual who early on Friday said all Mystic campers were accounted for.
  23. Wasn’t sure if I should put this in the flooding resources thread but was hoping more people might see it here: “Dangerous floodwaters in Georgetown prompted an emergency evacuation of dogs and cats from the city’s animal shelter on Saturday. All shelter animals were moved to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter. The evacuation prompted the regional shelter put out an urgent plea for help from the public for foster volunteers.“ https://www.kxan.com/news/local/williamson-county/fosters-needed-for-dogs-and-cats-evacuated-from-georgetown-shelter-during-flooding/
