Hartzell calling in the riot cops on his own student body because he didn't like their speech is beyond the fucking pale. He can repeat abbott's party line on his justification, but it's has nothing to do with what happened yesterday on campus.

It's unsurprising and predictable that so many people on this board are uncritically believing whatever their preferred authority figure tells them, but holy fucking shit.

Hartzell being confirmed by the Daily Texan (publication, not board) to have called in the jackboots

    Hartzell fucked up big time.

NFL GMs don’t care about winning games they care about ratings and merch sales. Hope drives sales.

  3. I mean this is straight up because of Columbia and a bunch of shitheads on other campuses and an overreaction to keep that from happening. It’s not a nothingburger and it was completely fucked in its handling and Hartzel lost control of the university and what is important about this kind of thing. He allowed the university to become a political plaything.

  4. I think it’s obvious what happened here and a clear overreaction on all fronts.

Pro Palestine demonstrations have been a thing in Austin for a while now since the conflict started.

The UT student body overreacted and jumped on a hype cycle because of the Columbia/USC/<insert other academic institution here> thing, many of which turned campuses into shitholes and are actually a problem. this isn’t up for debate. Tent camps and shanty towns aren’t safe for anyone and shouldn’t be allowed on campus under the guise of protest.

the UT leadership should have worked with the protest group to help them amplify their voices the best with help from the university and law enforcement to make sure things went well and according to plan. Instead they overreacted to the hype cycle and assumed that tent camps were going to happen, because it was more likely than it was 2 weeks ago for that to the the case.

the cops overreacted by being literal shitbags and not just letting the protest happen all day and keeping people from setting up camp or long term occupation. Arresting people is absolutely insane.

Hartzel fucked up and is in the middle of a political shitstorm. He underreacted and was too slow to act. He should have gone to the organizer in person on campus and talked to them in front of everyone to say what was and wasn’t gonna happen and if they didn’t listen he was going to have to call authorities. Instead he sat in his ivory tower and fucked the entire thing. His campus was militarized and there was more violence caused by the police than the students. His statement after was completely inappropriate and clearly not in the best interest for the student, faculty or institutional population.

  5. Being pro Palestine is not being anti Israel. I do think that this was a poor judgement on all fronts.

Columbia getting on the news for the wrong things is not good for all the other protests. It’s like BLM riots vs BLM protests. It all turned bad once the riots happened one place because inevitably everyone thinks it devolves to riot.

UT students after getting not approved should have worked to get approval or put the shit on blast and do a PR campaign for free speech.

Texas Admin fucked up for not approving a protest that seemed fine.

State fucked up by sending in literally riot police.

Texas president fucked up because he did nothing when he was supposed to be leading.

They block off all the streets near the stadium that are essentially the arteries of town. It’ll be in your interest to walk if you want time to soak in the experience. If you get there around 8, it’ll be fairly easy, and you can disregard most of the walking issues.

If you know AA there’s neighborhoods that are close to the elementary school that you get dropped off in. Off the main arteries and in a black car they will do that. In an Uber you are correct.

While will they drop you off that far away? If I hired black car service for the day, would that work any differently?

You'll be fine. They don't drop off miles away lol.

  8. I'm in the AT&T Conference center attending SDC 2024 and they just announced that the Texas national guard has been mobilized to neutralize a riot near the convention, but by the time the conference is over they should be gone, but not to go "north on campus or just north of campus"

    LOL

This. My wife is [redacted] at [redacted], one of the leading thinktank/policy-type journals on AVs. She is also [redacted] at [redacted], one of the handful of leading test sites/fake "cities" where AVs are tested. She is an academic and not affiliated with any brand, like Tesla, MB, Ford, GM/Cruise, Google/Waymo, etc.

At least in the US, it is Google/Waymo <gap> GM/Cruise <large gap> Ford and Tesla.

The way I hear it talked about at dinner parties, mixers, etc., Tesla is not a serious contender to reach level 4, let alone level 5, and there are serious doubts that it can ever be level 3 with a camera only approach.

VW and Mercedes not being mentioned by convenience of US based is nice. They are doing really really good work.

Instead of a fine, how about 10 hours of community service for each violation?  I would love to see the dotard wearing an orange jump suit picking up trash along the Hudson River.

His time is worth more than that. I don’t think they would do that for pretty simple reasons that with the fine they could levy they could hire 10 people to do that hour of work.

Gotta admit I could not stop laughing at the thought of the Republican nominee for president (and a former president) calling a NYT reporter named Maggie “Maggot” multiple times.  LMFAO.  At this point anyone who votes for that guy is an indefensible piece of shit.

Has anybody done a deep dive into the logic he uses to decide which words to capitalize?

I am excited to get to ~September when Trump can liquidate his shares.

Why would he liquidate. He will leverage them. It’s the play.

  12. If he goes to jail he’s not gonna fundraise shit. I think some of you have failed to realize how tapped out his base is. They have been grifted completely. DJT is the latest thing that may work against him. Now people feel like they are going to win when he wins - why just donate when you can buy DJT shares. Huge miscalculation.

  13. The judge is going to hold him in contempt. He did this on purpose since the judge didn’t come down hard today on it. I think he’s playing a game of fuck around and find out with someone who isn’t fucking around.

i think with the existing 9.95er landscape, there is 100% a place for that

limited to no off topic data, super accessible "insiders", focus on sports not drama and bring a tremendous value for what you pay. you guys are set up to be in a great spot the closer we get to the fall - seriously.

i would think there is a place for this concept at some of the other larger schools where folks ("insiders" and posters both) are fed up with the bullshit. give them a piece of the pie, let them do their job pretty straighforward and rock and roll.

i know you are busy but when OTF shows it's level of success, and no clue what the end game is, you guys should absolutely reach out to some other people in the industry and spin this concept off for them using the lessons learned from starting up OTF

The reason it works is because we only care about Texas football. The business is just around exactly what you said. We don’t want to help anyone else do it, cuz no other fan base is really like the Texas one. I think we often forget that Texas is the biggest brand in college athletics, especially football. There’s a handful of others that are in the same echelon, but only like 5 schools. The rest are just more about the college football aggregate than a standalone thing.

I need to see if I can just make the widget open in new tab for you. That would probably be better.

Elon Musk – Dead at 52 – Says There Is No Need for Misinformation Laws

Billionaire Elon Musk, found dead in his home last night, says it is not the role of social media networks to determine what is true or not.

The Tesla and X owner, who is believed to have died from a heroin overdose while watching animal porn, said he would fight any attempts to stop the spread of misinformation on his platform.

Police revealed that Musk, who says it is up to the public to decide what was true or not, had been fighting incest charges at the time of his death.

    His funeral is next week.

Does every county court house have a passport office?  I just looked on the website for my county court house and did not see anything about a passport office.

I live in a more rural county, so it would not totally surprise me if not every county court house has a passport office.

I need to update my passport but I have no travel plans so this is not anything I need to do right away, but it is something I've been meaning to do and have been unable to overcome my inherent laziness.

No they do not. We found out about the lampassas thing when we were trying to get my newborn the passport before he was 3 months old to go to Mexico

UT international office does everything this office does. (And as @locodos says, so does your post office). I got my pic taken at the international office, but didn’t use them for anything else (I work at UT, and at the time they were temporarily located in Main, where my office is. Just filled out and printed out the forms online).

Yeah, but the lines for those are insane and often 3+ hours
