  1. I disagree a bit. We're limited by our lack of athleticism and physicality in the backcourt( and wings). Hunter has the necessary athleticism, but he's small and tends to spaz out too frequently to be depended on. Abmas just isn't athletic enough to consistently get good shots off against good defenses. I expected more from Abmas coming into the season given his pedigree, but after watching him play it's obvious why he wasn't considered a high major player coming out of high school. The Big 12 is simply the wrong league for him to play in. There are too many dominant and physically imposing wings/guards in this league for him to play at his optimal level. Ideally you'd love to let Abmas play off the ball and run him off screens all night, but you're putting yourself in jeopardy by asking Hunter to handle the ball that much, so it's a bit of a catch-22.
  2. Same fucking play back to back. Kansas gets the call and we dont.
  3. Abmas got fouled egregiously on the midrange jump shot the next time back down the court.
  4. The metroplex is so dominant in Texas High School it's not even funny. Wylie East just beat Duncanville last night.
  5. It's so fucking stupid to give the entire playoff to a single entity.
  6. Such a weird question. What race is this not true for?
  7. I was under the impression that a lot of the NIL stuff for basketball players is through other means outside of school collectives and stuff like that. Like for instance someone like Tre Johnson may get a significant deal through a money manager due to the salary potential he could have down the road in the NBA. That's why playing in a city like Austin vs podunk college towns tends to be a better play for basketball players. Even a guy like Dillon Mitchell forecast to be a 7 figure player overseas so even if you're not a surefire NBA player there still significant potential for entities like the above.
  8. It depends. Given the talent level of Holland he'd probably be hitting his stride at this point in the season. He'd probably be eating into Cunningham and Shedrick's minutes and Horton wouldnt be on the roster. We would've probably ran even more than we do now. Johnson on the other hand, mostly likely would've been disappointed with his minutes, but there is the small chance that his talent would've shown through and he'd help us mitigate Hunter's lapses in play.
  9. The number one roster issue with this team is not getting adequate defensive size on the wing to pair with Abmas. Hunter lacks the necessary size to be a consistent hindrance on the defensive end. A non rapey Arterio Morris to go alongside of Weaver would've helped a lot. Ron Hollad and AJ Johnson had the potential to cause havoc on the wing as well, but relying on freshmen for defensive consistency would've been a fool's errand. That being said that lack of defense consistency is the primary trait that makes this team schizophrenic and our lack of length on the wing is the ultimate cause of it. Wing size can mask a lack of athleticism. Nobody would mistake guys like Jabari Rice, Timmy Allen, or Brock Cunningham for athletic marvels but their size made us switchable on the wings and made initiating the offense more difficult. Most people like to harp on the offense regardless of how good or bad it is, but offense is nowhere close to being this team's issue.
  10. I love how every bad spell of plays is viewed as a referendum on RT's inadequacies, but any good spell of plays is just luck or an anomaly.
  11. When it comes to basketball at the University of Texas placing his name alongside Rick Barnes is ridiculous. He didnt contribute shit to this university.
  12. Chris Beard coached at Texas a sum total of 42 games. As far as standards at Texas go, he didn't set shit.
  13. No OC under Reid has ever called plays. The fact that it was made a narrative about him and not any other Andy Reid OC (Nagy, Pederson, Mornhinweg, or Childress) over the years is telling. People should've just said he's an asshole and that was preventing him from getting traction, but going on and on about him not calling plays when no other Reid OC called played was ridiculous.
  14. So you're under the belief that he's the first assistant coach to be under contract when his head coach is fired? Every other fired head coach just happened to have all their assistants on the last year of their contracts?
  15. Why is the hiring of Kliff Kingsbury being reported as the firing of Eric Bienemy? Since when is a new head coach hiring a new OC reported as him firing the old OC who never worked for him? Seems like they're going out of their way to claim that Eric Bienemy was fired. Didn't all of the newly hired head coaches essentially fire the staffs of the previous head coaches?
  16. I dont know what the pros or cons would be with going to 4 quarters vs 2 halves. For tradition's sake I say keep it as is. Seems like a change just for change's sake.
  17. Hunter just lacks composure at times and his handle has always been sketchy. Sometimes he's just seems to be a slight beat off. Like he'll make a really good look, but the pass will be just off or come in too hot. He'll still have his games where he's really impactful we just have to do a better job of maintaining when he's off his game. The addition of Weaver as major contributor will help to weather those moments as we progress during the season.
  18. I'm actually higher on Mitchell than I was last year. He's displayed more skill over the past 2 games than he had over the previous year and half. He's been a bit more aggressive on the offensive end and he's started to knock down that 15 to 17 ft shot fairly consistently. When he makes quick decisions, without hesitation, especially off of that fake ball handoff action, he's going to have openings to go strong to the basket. If we can start utilizing his quickness off of that action, especially with how aggressively teams guard Abmas, his passing ability is going to open things up. He seems like the kind of player who is going to improve significantly once he becomes a pro and can completely dedicate himself to improving. Plus you can tell he's a coachable player. Compare his willingness to play within himself to someone like Greg Brown who basically had a similar skillset.
  19. They ran a double pick action to him multiple times throughout the game and he missed one wide open shot and decided not to shoot it 2 other times.
  20. Shedrick was actually pretty good to start the season. He had a 20+ point game early on, but the injuries have clearly taken a toll.
  21. I've always thought short, but long-armed DTs are a market inefficiency in the NFL, but Murphy is both short and has short arms. He'd truly be an anomaly if he became as dominant as Aaron Donald.
  22. It will be good to take another look 3 weeks from now at which teams fall within those constraints. Most teams have only played about 4 or 5 conference games.
  23. I think the gutting has to due with financial issues. According to the Buf Elliot and some of thr guys on the Saturday's Down Podcast the stuff coming out about how much of an NIL discount having Saban as their coach got Bama is shocking. And as a result their NIL budget is severely lacking now that they have to operate on equal terms with everyone else.
