This is how an imbecile tells his subscriber base that their star QB is sprinting towards the exit. Tough break for OU. I really feel for them.21 points

My image of John Madden was shaped differently after I read a Sports Illustrated article, I guess some time in the late 70's or early 80's. After reading that article, I never saw him the same again... and among the change was he wasn't first and foremost a football figure. He became in essence a saint. The article/incident I'm referring to most old-timers will know well... a 1979 preseason game, Oakland vs. New England, and the hit Patriots receiver Darryl Stingley got by Jack Tatum while going for a pass. Although the hit was legal at the time, it was particularly viscous and Stingley ended up compacting his spine and being paralyzed for the rest of his life (which eventually would lead to his death in 2007). Stingley was taken to an Oakland hospital while the entire Patriot team got on a plane home; only a Patriots' staffer stayed behind. Madden went through the postgame rituals and cleanup, and then it dawned on him: "I wonder how that Stingley kid is?" He finds out that indeed he was doing terribly, and was in Castro Valley Hospital. So what does Madden do? Makes a beeline for the hospital, arrives, finds out where he is, finds out that he's about to go into emergency surgery. And then what does he do? Stays with him and comforts him up until he gets wheeled in. Eventualy, Madden realized that he was the only person to visit Stingley at that moment, so what does he do? He calls the airport and demands that the Patriots turn their plane, which was about to taxi to the runway, back to the gate and get to the hospital (several Patriots players did eventually go over). And if that wasn't enough, while Stingley recovered in Oakland over several weeks, Madden went to visit him regularly, when he was back in Oakland after games (he even offered his house for his wife to stay in for free while he recovered, but she graciously declined, wanting to be at the hospital with Stingley... nevertheless, the Maddens had her over to dinner regularly during that time, and Mrs. Madden would frequently join her at the hospital - when John was unable to due to his job. John Madden - sincerely and honestly concerned for the welfare of a player when no one would ever have blinked if he didn't. Stingley never forgot that moment, and it changed his life - he said that he might have come out of the incident a much more bitter man, but for seeing the compassion and care of Madden, it deeply affected him. They remained close friends until Stingley's death. How do I know all of this? Because the article was essentially an interview by Stingley, who, through several bouts of tears, said that he couldn't believe the decency of this man, and how he would always treasure how Madden cared for him, put him first. He never forgot it either, and always spoke so lovingly of Madden it was heartwarming. Like Stingley, that made such an impression on me of the heart of John Madden that football seemed ludicrous by comparison. John Madden was almost, if not quite, my hero from that time. And he also proved that he was much, much bigger than a silly game of football.19 points

Also, an anecdote from my son, who is apparently a smart-ass troll. His German exchange brother is in town, so we've been showing him around town. He's Catholic, so yesterday, they went into the cathedral to check it out. As they get near the front, there's a man who had come in to kneel before the altar, say a silent prayer, then sit in the pew. He was wearing a shirt that said something along the lines of "unvaxxed, unmasked, unafraid." The boy sees this, and tells buddy and his sister to "follow my lead." He walks to the front of the church, stands in front of the altar, and takes the hand of each of them, to lead them in prayer out loud, something along the lines of "Heavenly father, we stand before you in prayer, and we offer our thanks for the gifts you've given us: the scientists who have developed the vaccines for this terrible illness, the medical leaders who have administered these life-saving vaccines, and who have provided us thoughtful and caring guidance throughout this pandemic, etc. etc." Yeah. He's a troll. But I chuckled.17 points

If it happens, it is happening in spite of Sarkisian's own interests and input. The word has been that there's no way Patterson was going to get that kind of role, but in the last 24 hours it's become matter of fact in offline discussions, so it looks like it's happening. Several of us had lunch with a well-known former player and coach recently and he's coached with Patterson. He said "if Gary gets that kind of role, he will do everything he can to become the next HC at Texas." This is where Crystal gets out over his skis and attempts to unlock the possible backdooring of having one of his guys in the chair as HC of football at Texas. I'll state right now for this board's record keeping purposes that while I still absolutely believe that Sarkisian is going to be a laughable failure as HC at Texas, I have zero interest in seeing Gary fucking Patterson weasel his way into the chair when Sarkisian is shown the door. God dammit.17 points

The Midwest is truly a hell scape of nativist idiocy now. They bitch about globalism and the decline of small locally-owned businesses while buying stacks of cheap Chinese-made clothes and mass-produced junk food from Walmart and Dollar General. They bemoan the lack of high-paying manufacturing jobs for high school dropouts and then vote for the assholes who busted the unions (and spew vitriol at politicians who might actually help them). They call themselves American patriots while waving Confederate flags and expressing coded support for Naziism. It’s fucking depressing.15 points

I love how broken brained the Republicans are about this shit. The failed cop loser didn't get criticized for criticizing Biden. He got criticized for telling Biden to fuck himself while Biden was trying to wish his kid merry Christmas. And they can't handle that Biden didn't take the bait, because he's not mentally and emotionally a child, so his refusal to take the bait must mean that he was too senile to understand the insult. It's all so revealing about just how emotionally stunted these losers all are.13 points

Yep. I think Biden got caught flat-footed on the issue of ordering more tests. I also think he needs to be more aggressive about requiring vaccinations for any number of federally regulated activities. I also credit him for not doing absolutely insane shit like insisting that if we don’t test, we won’t have any cases, or that the virus would disappear after Easter, or shit like that. Speaking of which….Trump fans, y’all remember how trump and damn near everyone in his orbit told us flat-out that Covid would “magically disappear” after Biden took office, implying that the entire disease and response was all some Dem ploy? I remember. And y’all have ZERO problem with that absolutely unhinged batshittery, born of pathological lies, utter delusion, or both. So, you’ll forgive me if I don’t look to y’all as paragons of judgment as to honest behavior.11 points

The only conceivable reason for Marion to stay on for the bowl game after getting snubbed on playcalling duties is because he's bringing the WR with him and an early departure fucking up their bowl game would unnecessarily burn too many bridges. Or he's not the guy and Texas is waiting to hire Hankton after UGa's last game. Or it's someone else altogether and we're wasting our time giving a shit what Marion is tweeting about in the first place. Or fuck me, fuck you, fuck that and no one knows shit about fuck.10 points

Why aren't you out there helping them, man? Pick out a handful of your friends/family and see if you can change their minds. They won't listen to us; they might to you since you're not an evil liberal. Someone from that handful may be persuaded and, in turn, try to help another handful. You might actually save a life. What's that? You don't actually care about any of these idiots dying any more than we do?9 points

There's so much contradicting info out there about the Patterson stuff that I stopped trying to follow. At this point I've heard about half a dozen scenarios are happening. Here's what I feel is the reality based on what I know: - CDC is just a shade above a bumbling idiot when it comes to running a big time athletic department. - CDC got his wings clipped after repeatedly proving himself to be unhelpful in dealing with Herman and then in dealing with replacing him. Hartzell and Eltife have been making the big decisions as a result. - The vast majority of fans and donors think CDC is one of the best athletic directors in the country. - There are serious $$$ guys who really like CDC, because CDC is very good at the glad handing and dick sucking part of the AD job (and is a very nice and pleasant person in general.) These $$$ guys are the types to say things like they like how CDC "represents the University." *insert puke sounds* - There's a misconception out there that not only did CDC lead the charge on hiring Sark, but that he was largely responsible for landing Chris Beard. - A lot of our $$$ guys think very highly of Gary Patterson, and CDC was technically our entree in getting those discussions started. So CDC is getting credit there from some of our $$$ guys. I dont know how vital CDC really is in Patterson's interest, but there's a text group I'm on that is already singing CDC's praises over getting Patterson interested. Thats about everything I can say confidently. But speculatively, I think CDC is using Patterson as a way to get added influence back over the football program. Gary Patterson is a bulldog and would eat Sarkisian for lunch if given enough power and influence over decisions inside the building. After 5-7, I think there are plenty of $$$ guys that would be fine with that. I don't know where Hartzell and Eltife stand on this stuff, but its my guess that there are lots of politics being played here. This is what people mean when they say we are a shitshow due to too many outside influences.9 points

I’ve never heard anyone speak poorly of him. There is nearly universal praise for the person he was and contributing to the growth of football by changing how broadcasting was done. Somebody earlier said it was nostalgia, either the broadcasting, the play, or both. I don’t believe so. Late 80s to mid 90s NFL was the apex of football for the period between the forward pass up until the spread and analytics. Madden and Summerall were better to listen to, or at least more enjoyable, than Cosell or Keith Jackson. And what does today’s generation have to celebrate? Joe Buck and Chris Collinsworth? Despite announcing several Super Bowls and almost every World Series for a generation, people won’t feel the way about Buck that they do about Madden.9 points

That’s reasonable given the decreased severity of the illness associated with omicron, whether that is due to the mutations or the fact that a majority of Americans at this point are vaxed, recovered from infection w another variant, or both. So far no hospital I work at has postponed elective surgery. To me that’s very encouraging given the sheer number of cases8 points

The jury is still out on sark, one year is not enough time to judge anyone I don’t care if we went undefeated this year. A one year referendum on a guy is crazy. Let’s see what he does with a QB this year. He seems reasonable and pragmatic thus far which is a good thing. Coleman being let go is a good data point. id love to add GP because he could oversee the recruiting department, the S&C and the Defensive game-planning. The guy has been a HC for 20 years and built a program practically by himself. He could help Sark tremendously. He would not be brought in without Sarks approval, that’s just ridiculous and that’s not how CDC operates. Therefore, if he is brought in, that shows that Sark is not insecure and that he can lay his ego aside for the betterment of the team. Another positive data point. I would bet my left nut that GP is not the next HC if Sark is fired. I bet we do whatever it takes to get Shannahan8 points

he's doing this bit because he got his hand slapped for posting off topic. so now he's feverishly repeating his biden is senile mantra to try and bait other posters into going off topic so he can report their posts and decry moderator bias. it's not working as well as he thinks it is. it is kind of funny in a sad way what he is trying to do. so childish.8 points
