  1. I fucking loved that guy and the turnaround he implemented in a single week after Manny. RIP Gerg

  2. THESE ARE NOT FUCKING NIL DEALS! I AM SO GOD DAMN TIRED OF THIS NARRITIVE! That would be over 1mill per player, no one got more than 500k. You cannot give an NIL deal nor promise an NIL deal till they are enrolled and on campus. These were bags of fucking cash. If any aggy tries to push that narrative please correct them immediately

  3. One of the most angering recruitments and aftermaths from the Herman era is JSN, to me. Texas looked at him very early and had him on campus, didn't feel like he was anything special and moved on. By the time they decided he was worthy of a full court press, so had everybody else and he committed and then signed with OSU. Then JSN isn't happy at OSU and puts feelers out about coming to Texas under Sarkisian last spring. Eventually, Ketchum and Roach get wind of it and in their own ways lead to the OSU staff figuring out that JSN was thinking about leaving and re-recruit him to stay. Mike Roach will continue to cost Texas on the recruiting and transfer front in the future because he is a fucking rube. He is extremely literal and views himself as some sort of moral compass to journalism. So, the minute he hears anything, the first thing he's going to try to do is "verify" the rumor. He has never, and will never, reach the basic understanding that sometimes, if not all of the time, the first thing you do is: shut the fuck up, pause, and think through the game of it all. I know expecting game theory analysis to come from most people is folly on my part, and especially a dumb robot like Roach, but a little of it would be nice. Maybe ask yourself, Roach: "Am I an asshole? Are my kids a mess? Is my wife a money-grubbing whore?" I mean, those are questions, right? "Have I ever been good to the program I'm paid to cover or am I just now pretending to be? If I start fumbling around with this guy's circle or calling $9.95ers covering the school where he's at, am I fucking up this for the program?" Anyway, and fuck Ketchum too.

  4. Not sure this is the right spot for this, but I felt the need to share with a bunch of assholes. She would have loved it here. She was 91, and just diagnosed with covid within the last week. She wasn't doing so well for the last couple months though. She was cajun, from New Iberia, and the last generation in my family to grow up speaking French. She gave me my first beer, first oyster, and was sitting next to me in what i think was my first memory (a john boat bayou ride with alligators going under us from one side of the shore and up onto the other). She once tackled me and covered me up when i stumbled on a yellow jacket nest. She was stung 17 times, but I never was. When I was accepted into UT, she gave me this burnt orange mold of a hand doing the hook 'em horns that had to be 30 years old at that point. She was so fucking happy for me. As a father of daughters, i can only pray that I've prepared them to live their lives as she has. I'd be honored for them to have her integrity and work ethic, love and tenacity. As I'm sitting here drinking rye, listening to "I Feel Like Hank Williams Tonight" on repeat, and crying my eyes out, I'm trying to push myself into being thankful for the time I had and all the wonderful gifts she's given me, but fuck I'm sad. Here's to you meemaw. If I happen to end up in the same afterlife as you, we're making gumbo and dirty rice and drinking wine in your kitchen for eternity, all day every day.

  10. I get up at 5:30a, decide to take a seat upon my throne and read about recruiting... I open this thread about six pages back and start scanning... See a tall recruit doing recruit stuff... Cool... Keep scanning... Lacrosse? Ok. A recruit plays lacrosse... Cool... Keep scanning... Wtf are these dudes talking about? Wait.. the snuffaluffagus or what? What is this shit? Oh, ok, Harry Potter... Never saw it. Ok... Wait, what? Harry Potter personality quiz? Ok, nerds... I know it's the off-season, but can you contain yourselves? You are making me look even more suspicious, because I can't do the Harry Potter thing at all... And you should probably do less of it.

  13. Just generally assume that an aggie telling you what's going on behind the scenes anywhere, at ATM, Texas, his local little league, is lying and should be outright dismissed. I can tell you with absolute certainty that there is nothing grounded in fact regarding anything he said about HWH. He's just your basic lying idiot, also known as a redass aggie.

  15. I posted the Wasserman article to highlight how even the lead national recruiting reporter at the Athletic said "it's not cheating" while failing to realize that an NIL deal for a recruit is actually cheating. The value of information is limited by the ability of those to understand it, and the narrative of recruiting in large part is driven by simpletons for dullards.

  22. Watching LSU with only 38 scholly players get hammered by K State. But they showed up. I love that aggy just throws their hands up in the air and says, “There’s just no way. I mean, it’d be dangerous!” No, aggy, it would be a legitimate ass-whooping. Maybe even a little embarrassing. But honorable as far as ass-whoopings go. Quitting nine days out is in its own class of stupid delusion.

  24. Fuck Alzheimers right in the ass. My mom is going down the same path, and visiting her this holiday season at her memory care facility was the first time I sensed that she doesn't really understand who I am, so I've been dwelling on the topic a bit too much the last couple of months. I'd choose almost any other fate.

  27. The surgeons basically grate burnt cheese off of your body over and over and over again until you either ask for comfort care or die from infection. I can't think of anything worse to watch, short of sexual violence, than a person surviving a major burn. Anything more than 10% BSA is an instant ICU admission, and unless you're in a burn center, the doctors are probably learning how to care for major burns while caring for you. The standards and best practices are constantly changing. We had five self-immolations and countless accidental burns last year, and they played a more than minor role in my departure from the bedside. I would rather crisis nurse for COVID than take burns again. I still have nightmares.

  30. When some buddies and I tailgated at Floyd-Casey in 2008, we all agreed that there was an "Indian burial ground" vibe in the air and that we just weren't welcome in this place. I've never felt that anywhere else in my life, and at that time the only Waco weirdness I was aware of was the Branch Davidians and the Baylor basketball murder. I'll never forget walking across a deserted tailgate lot to a row of porta pots with no one in line, and opening an unlocked porta pot to find an old woman in a Mennonite dress sitting on it. I froze in terror and she slowly raised her head up to look me straight in the eye with an angry scowl. I just slammed the door shut, turn, ran, and screamed like a little bitch.

  32. As a tribute to @Ricky's one-hitter, here is my final Westlake Sunshine Pumping post of the year. @Helobious was correct, as Chaps QB Cade Klubnik was named National System Player of the Year. The award is given to "the physically and mentally limited player who most benefits from being in a superior system." And Chaps Coach Dodge was voted National Underdog Coach of the Year for his "success in leading players with physical limitations in regards to ethnicity, size and speed." I really enjoyed this season, as our rag-tag team of underdog misfits somehow managed to overcome huge disadvantages in resources to finish ranked #2 in nation by Max Preps. Here's to the David's of the world! Joking aside, this 2021 squad is probably my favorite Westlake team and I would put this 3-year run up there as one of the greatest in Texas HS football history. And yes, we didn't play North Shore, but we beat them last year when they were arguably better. Cheers and health to you all in 2022. @Beau Vine thanks for your amazing contributions.

  35. i think that's what has made me so sad/conflicted about everything happening. i know these people, and i know the kindness in their hearts. they were just genuinely good people. as an example, when i was a kid i went on a lot of family road trips with my aunt and uncle. every single time we came upon someone stranded on the highway my uncle would pull over to help them. didn't matter how close or far we were from our destination, didn't matter their skin color, didn't matter what time it was or how many kids were in the back screaming/punching each other. flash forward 30 years, and he's wearing a MAGA hat and bought into a movement that is the polar opposite of who/what i knew him to be. i love them dearly, but none of them are smart. none of them went to college, and none of them are able to think critically. they were easy prey, and slowly over time, rush limbaugh, fox news, facebook just chipped away until whatever part of them i knew was gone. it's just sad.
