1. There's a difference between not trusting the government and being convinced that the bulk of scientific research is a conspiracy to control people. I have little doubt that politicians don't give a shit about me or my interests unless it's advantageous to them. I have little doubt that many laws and government initiatives are little more than cash grabs or means to pursue a less than open agenda. I also have little doubt that scientists and doctors are almost always trying to figure out what the hell is going in a given situation and are generally trustworthy. The modern right wing has just devolved into "don't trust anyone that doesn't say what you want to hear" and works backwards from there.

 2. For awhile they let the tail wag the dog, because it seemed to be working out better than what they had been doing. "Sure Trump is a lying psychopath (Cruz and others said as much multiple times during the 2016 primary season), is a narcissist entirely motivated by his own well-being, has a complete disregard for truth and lives in an alternate reality, and has a room temperature IQ, but hey.....he gets votes, and Hillary had those emails." Then the tail became the dog. The party and its voting block have been taken over by fucking morons. They will assemble by the thousands in hopes that JFK Jr will return to lead them to the promised land. An ever increasing number of elected GOP politicians are posting social media content armed to the teeth like Rambo and talking about armed conflict. And nobody from GOP leadership will stand up and say "you guys are fucking morons, stop with the ridiculous conspiracy theories, stop with the racism, stop with the revolution bullshit," because that discourse appeals to an ever increasing number of GOP voters, and they need every one of those votes. Liberalism and democrats have literally become evil incarnate to the vast majority of the GOP. There is no desire for bipartisanship in the GOP, in truth its the opposite. They have to perpetuate the lie that the majority of the country did in fact vote for Trump to bolster the "movement's " validity. Because fat donnie didnt win, the path forward is to convince the rubes that the Democrats stole the election. Democrats = enemy of democracy. You cant make that the backbone of your party platform and then turn around the next day and work together on immigration or health care reform. There is zero evidence of election fraud, and I doubt any of those fucknuts would go under oath and claim as much, but that doesnt stop them from promoting that bullshit. There simply is no place in the party for people who think otherwise. Its why the Kinzinger's of the world are forced to announce they will no longer seek re-election once they speak against this lunacy. there is no place in the GQP for them. Without the peaceful transition of power from one administration to the next, a democracy is worthless. The GOP is extinguishing democracy with its relentless drive to overturn the election, because that's preferable than having democrats in charge. Look at their rhetoric. Its a lost cause. They elected to chase the nuclear option, and now no matter what happens in the midterms or the 24 elections, etc... the country suffers because contesting elections has become the norm. The party either self-immolates or they win back power and continue to rachet up the lunacy. Hoping they meander back to the middle seems like a lost cause. They are all in on idiocy as evidenced by the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of unvaccinated rubes.

 3. Last week my wife called me in a frantic state saying "the garage door is stuck open! I have a meeting in 10 mins and cannot just leave the garage door like this!" Could immediately tell that she was irate at having to deal with this. I even contemplated leaving work, driving across town, and closing the door so that she wouldn't leave the garage door open all day. Turns out she began backing out of the driveway a bit too soon, she crashed into the door, cracking the wooden garage door and sending wooden shards all over the driveway, then couldn't extricate her car from the situation as it was "stuck" to the door. Her original call just described "the garage door not closing properly."

 7. And this. I -- and my entire family -- have traveled and even live internationally. What have we done to do that? We all got vaccinated and boosted. We wear masks on the plane, in the airport, and anyplace else they are required. And we literally do all the things we otherwise would do, with minimal impact on our lives. But getting a vaccine of which over TEN FUCKING BILLION doses have been given, with nobody's head falling off or exploding, and wearing a mask over your face when required, is just too goddamned much of an imposition for people. 100% interest in selfishness for the sake of selfishness. 0% interest in doing anything for the common good. Fucking stupid.

 11. Nice, inside and out. A longtime buddy has been working a while of fixing up and old hay barn into his weekend getaway/man cave. From the outside its just and old barn but inside is a pretty good hangout. While not a big deer spot, there are always a couple of rabbit dogs under foot, pigs to shoot, good food to eat and beer to drink and a pretty good domino game every once in a while.

 15. I'd post a pic of my tray, but MissingInAction already did that. I will wait on a green light from MIA before I post a pic of me, him & John Lewis. Also [& you know who you are], a lot of you assholes obviously owe LA (& Ali) a shitload of apologies. When John was fired from the South 1st operation, it was quite bloody & of course not having even a scant of information, the hate for LA was off the charts. Move forward a few years to the "Official Meat Purveyor" @ 6th & Pedernales & after the investors found out the truth (i.e. a pit was repo'd, bridges got burned), very few stepped up to admit they were wrong about how all of that went down for the schism between John & LeAnn. With what little resources available to me, I did my best to help John with the South 1st shop. It's like "Breaking Bad" where one small (bad) decision leads to another fork in the road & that leads to another bad one, etc. Nobody can read the tea leaves & of course hindsight 20/20, etc. to know what was coming for the next ~10 years of his life. Wherever he is, whatever he might be doing, hopefully John has found some respite & is enjoying peace (whatever that is for him).

 16. There has never been anything close to a full shutdown in two years by the government yet the response has been mischaracterized as "tyranny!!!' by Fox News and right-wing seditionist traitors who think it's akin to the holocaust to ask our citizens to wear masks, get vaccinated, and not be a complete fucking dumbass by buying tickets to that Sunday brunch bus tour with fifty other strangers.

 17. No fucking shit we're tired. Tired as fuck of living in a country full of assholes who care only about themselves, and not a single bit about their fellow man. That's fucked up, and no society can make it in the long run with that as the dominant ethos. No, you got SOME people in Canada, many of whom are the biggest fucking assholes in the country, to stage a fucking temper tantrum. Get a fucking vaccine. Wear a mask when/where it will help protect other people. That's all that we have to do. That's it. It's so fucking little.....but it's way too much, because fuck you the only thing that matters is me me me me me me me me. Fucking broken shit.

 19. One late spring before the COVID (I guess..2019), I was sitting in a cafe in Budapest overlooking the Danube from castle hill with my sister and her husband, we had just stopped for a cold drink because it was warm and we'd been walking. It wasn't too crowded and I got to hear this obviously American accented techdudebro throwing an absolute shit-fit with the waiter because they wouldn't accept his American Express. (Seriously? AmEx is your go-to in Europe, dipshit?). The waitress kept explaining that they didn't take AmEx and he kept obnoxiously repeating that it was the only thing he had to pay with. And that he wouldn't go to an ATM because he didn't want the charge on his card. They finally struck a deal where a busboy (the waitress had given up) would accompany him back to the hotel ("I'm not paying for your Lime Scooter bro!") where he would get his ATM card, withdraw cash, and pay the bill ("you gotta come wait at my hotel cause I am not coming all the way back here.") I called the waitress over, paid the dude's fucking lunch bill and apologized for my countryman. The guy came over and said "thanks so much, I will Venmo you bro, what do I owe you" and I told him that I hadn't done it as a favor for HIM, it was a favor to the restaurant staff. Anyway, he looked a lot like that guy paying for a beer with BTC.

 21. THIS. However, this is also exactly what the GOP has been saying and doing since before I grew pubes during the Reagan administration. Their platform has always revolved around deregulation and tax cuts, bombarding media with anti-government propaganda to ensure that government works well for the wealthy few at the expense of the rest of us. The degree of heightened paranoia and distrust we've seen see since the Bush administration and Trump is just a calcification of that awful GOP propaganda that took root during the Reagan years and blossomed under the disgusting Newt Gingrich Contract With America nonsense and has culminated in unrestrained, anti-democratic own-the-libs Trumpist fascism. This is why I despise Republicanism--it appeals to the ugliest, most cynical and nihilistic views that demand nothing substantive in return from our representative government because those who vote Republican think that government is an omnipotent, nefarious otherness than can never affect positive change when we have a long list of government programs that improved our society.

 24. IT Scoop: By: Justin and Gerry RECRUITING One rather large fish remains on the line for UT's Class of 2022. When one of the nation's top offensive lineman has Texas within his sights, it tends to bring one last gasp of excitement as the 2022 cycle comes to a close. On Wednesday, National Signing Day II will come and go, and the Horns just have to reel in this trophy catch. OL Devon Campbell, Bowie (Arlington, TX) - 2022: The On3 Consensus five-star and No. 12 overall prospect for the 2022 class will announce his future intentions in 48 hours. Inside Texas has been consistent in our prognosticating of where we believe the 6-foot-3, 325-pound guard ultimately ends up. He's visited one school more than others. He's built solid relationships with many of UT's staffers. And early playing certainly seems to appeal to the monster of the interior. We love where Texas stands in these sweepstakes and don't see any reason to change now. IT has maintained Texas has a very large lead since the end of the early signing period. Nothing has changed, even though some others in the industry that cover Texas have pinned the recruitment as “50-50”. This recruitment hasn’t been close to that since December 15. Those other people are dead wrong.

 25. Authoritarians and fascists view the government not as a mechanism to execute policy and serve the people, but as a weapon to wield against their enemies. If you simply expect trump and the GQP to act along those lines, you will rarely be surprised.
