  2. These buffoons really don't understand the difference between hatred and contempt. I can't "hate" someone that has always been beneath me. Aggie sports have been meaningless trash my entire lifetime outside of a window when I was young and they were rampantly cheating and almost got the death penalty. Even during that brief stint, their other sports programs were largely worthless. Under no circumstances will I ever cheer for OU. I don't know many who did during that ATM game, either. Now, when OU was blowing them out 77-0, I was watching that game with an aggie friend and the sheer brutality of it had me begging them to throw in the towel out of pity and I enjoyed it, but I would have preferred the other outcome. If OU is playing the Taliban, I'm donning a turban. If OU is playing Russia with Putin at QB, I'm chugging vodka with my comrades and cheering for OU's demise. Cheering for ATM over OU? Yes, I'm ashamed to admit that I've held my nose and done it, but I've never regretted it. Those rubes will never understand that every time OU wins at anything, the universe is worsened just a little bit. I don't think anything like that with ATM. I find their idiocy, cowardice and self-delusion constantly highly entertaining. Outside of that, I don't think of them in any other context. I didn't want to ever play them again because they bitched out and then tried to blame us, but now that that is inevitable, I also know what else is inevitable - big brother will go right back to owning them on every court, field, diamond or track in which we compete.

  7. Finally made it to Interstellar today and GOOD GOD MAN this is some next level smoke! Got to speak with Hector for a bit and you can just FEEL the passion flowing through this place. Line: Got there at 11 and joined some friends who had been waiting since 10:30 and we’re 6th in line. Were in and eating by 11:20, out the door 12:15 where the line had really died down (but nothing was sold out) Ribs: Probably the best I’ve ever had. Just perfect, slide off the bone goodness with complex flavor throughout. Brisket: Damn solid, expertly smoked and super tender. Top 5 for me but hard to place within that sphere. Lamb Shoulder: Outstandingly moist and fragrant… a clear standout Sausage: Solid with great flavor but no snap… casing was a little chewy Burnt Ends: Some of the best I’ve had… consistent flavor with the slices and very juicy with a hearty crust Sides: All of them were delicious, but the grits were a clear standout. 9.5/10

  8. I worry about Ukraine, I do. I worry about them having enough munitions. I worry about continued western support. I worry about Russia, because it is really big and they really are bastards. But…two of their top military leaders (I can’t bring myself to call them “generals” as neither is commissioned in a real sense) are Prighozin, who is basically a prison-hardened thug, and Kadyrov, a trained attorney with three wives. Their forces are exceptionally cruel, willing to commit war crimes all day long. They aren’t professional. They’re more “gangs” than armies. They’re more likely to show up with more Viagra than they need (for the raping) than they are to show up with proper gear. My hope is that Ukraine’s offensive will feint, dash through an opening in the lines, and use comms superioritmy to sow confusion and chaos through the Russian ranks. My hope is that Ukraine’s professional army beats these Russian clowns down. I grew up on army bases. To me, the US uniforms mean something. The Russians are larping and I hope they suffer for it. Remember what Bradley said- “Amateurs talk strategy. Professionals talk logistics”.

  12. The longer you wait, the higher the risk of having your plans get into Russian hands. The Germans delayed the attack at Kursk to get Panther tanks into service. The Russians got ahold of the German plans, down to the minute that the attack was to jump off, and used the delay to shape the battlefield and prepare very deep defensive positions and position reserves in the best places for the counter attack after the Germans were stopped. From what I've seen, the Russian defensive positions in Ukraine are modeled on their positions around Kursk. As has been mentioned, too much delay risks a loss of political will to support Ukraine in Western countries. Lack of action waiting for F-16s and other modern jets may result in those jets never coming. Finally, too much delay will undercut the morale in the Ukrainian Army. Once they get everything fine tuned and ready for the fight, it is impossible to hold that edge indefinitely. Too much delay also sends a signal of weakness to both the Ukrainian Army and the Russian Army. As the wise Tuco Ramirez said, "When it's time to shoot, shoot. Don't talk."

Meanwhile, Texas will be without its top appellate attorney and the chief of OAG General Litigation. Abbott should appoint an interim and all 6 of these assholes should be fired. It’s fucking outrageous.

NATO would be incredibly lucky to have Ukraine. If NATO was formed to fight Russia, you should ask the people who are currently kicking their ass. https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8zN2M3Mjg3NC9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw/episode/MjAwZmZmOWMtZmVmNS0xMWVkLTgwYjUtZDNiMmMwNjg4MjE2?ep=14

  29. The F-16s are going to be good mostly because they are airplanes that fly. They’ll be better than the MiGs but they aren’t fifth gen, they aren’t stealth, and they are not likely to get shiny low-mileage versions with the latest radar. They would be unlikely to change the game incredibly— and if you think Russia is on the back foot, you strike when you can. They don’t get weaker as you wait, especially now that they’ve ground out Bakhmut and are in hunker down mode.

  30. The window is limited because of raspustista, the mud. My understanding is that in late Septemberish/early October it returns. That would mean that if you were to wait 4 months for the planes that no one has agreed to yet (just training thus far, though I am sure that will come later) you'd have only a few weeks before you'd have to wait for a freeze. Even if you got accelerated training of 2 months, and planes, and weapons platforms to go with the planes, you'd have only a brief period to accomplish anything. There is a political element to this (which I wish didn't exist, but hey, welcome to the real world), and the Western allies will need to begin to see a return of sorts. Because of all this, I don't think the Ukrainians can afford to wait. Personally, I think the F16s are looked at as end game sort of stuff by the West, additionally security assistance while going thru the full NATO acceptance. I could be wrong on this. Also, if they were going to wait, I don't believe they'd be tipping their hand to a degree by using things like the Storm Shadow for shaping operations. I've long thought they will really start very late night on a Friday or Saturday, when the Russian officers are most likely to be on an overnight drunk; not to mention the night vision advantage they have.

  31. In high school a buddy of mine was cleaning fish on the back of a commercial deep sea fishing boat when a big wave snuck up on him and threw him out of the boat. The crew was always playing jokes / hiding from each other to avoid work on the way back in and no one thought anything of his absence. They got back to the dock and realized he wasn't on the boat. They alerted the coastguard and other boats in the area (they run similar routes) and another boat came across him on the way back in and grabbed him just before sundown. He said he'd never forget the boat disappearing over the horizon as he just floated in the open ocean. He said he had a talk with himself and thought he could either panic and be fucked or relax and wait/hope that someone came along and saw him. He took off his Tevas, velcro'd them together and put them behind his neck to help floating. He stayed as calm / still as possible and just floated. He lost track of time and said he could have been there for 30 minutes or 3 hours before the boat came by and grabbed him.
