  1. You guys are literally responding to a ChatBot, if a chatbot was run by a TRS-80 and instead of plugged into the entire internet, was just plugged into the FoxNews web site. If you really feel the need to continue let me summarize the next few pages: Q: Are you saying all of the economic discrepancies between black and white Austin is due to black men abandoning their families? Poe: LOL. I love Austin! Q: Well that doesn't answer the question. Can you address the issue being asked? Poe: LOL. I have a black neighbor. How can your theory explain that? Q: What? What does that have to do with the historical economic discrepancies clearly tied to governmental/regulatory policies directed specifically at the black population? Poe: LOL. I have a pair of expensive Jordan shoes. Jordan is a black man and is rich. How can a black man be rich if CRT is real? LOL.

  3. I'd love to see one of them explain how the Texas A&M "system" would have a greater presence in Dallas-Fort worth than the University of Texas. They think Tarleton state is carrying weight and pushing out high end graduates? Fun fact, I had to look up where Texas A&M International was, and while on their website I learned that apparently this is their hand sign: https://www.tamiu.edu/ No shit, it's right there on the homepage on an image carousel.

  4. This is a really great thread, but first, some of my own thoughts. Without going all CR, I believe that the Obama administration’s by turns idealistic and then cynical Ukraine and Russia policy was a deep miscalculation. I think much of it was driven by a misplaced desire to avoid grappling with the new post-Cold War reality. I believe a not-insignificant bit of personal vanity to ensure that his famous campaign retort to Mitch Romney about 1980s policy didn’t get proven wrong played into things. In 2014 Russia murdered 298 souls on a civilian aircraft from across NATO. They lied about who did it, and they lied about who was in the Donbas, just as they had lied about everything. And we swallowed those murders with some mostly symbolic sanctions and took ages to firmly stand up against the Kremlin lie machine. The time called for bold and decisive action. For instance—- publicly taking Putin at his word that there were only separatists and no Russians fighting and announcing a peacekeeping deployment to protect civilians and civil aviation. Or at least, the announcement of a rotating symbolic troop presence well west of the LOC in the east as a training/advisory/deterrence mission, or rotating NATO fixed wing units to air police behind the LOC. Russia will not reward you no matter what choices you make, but will respect or cower in the face of bold action. For too long, we let ourselves believe the Medvedev that went to get a Ray’s Hell Burger represented something meaningful in Russia. I

  5. People are whining on Twitter about "civilians" possibly being killed in the strike, which is bullshit. The Kerch bridge connects illegally occupied territory with the territory of the illegal occupier. There are no "civilians" on the Kerch bridge, just Russian military and collaborators.

  6. My mother passed away last week and my Dad thought it was time to start giving stuff away. He gave me a lot of my grandfathers service records from WWII along with some other things. The one thing that I have always wanted to keep in the family is a piece of flak that struck my grandfather in the chest on one of his 35 missions. The flak and his mission list is posted below. The picture of the mission list is a scan, but I have the real one that is pretty delicate, so didn’t want to handle it. I remember looking at it as a young boy in amazement and one of my greatest regrets in life is not talking with my grandfather about the war. I have no idea if he would have been open to it, but he died when I was 18 and I didn’t have the sense to talk with him at that age. I have some other things that I’ll post in the future, but this is the most treasured to me.

  7. This might honestly be the funniest tweet I have read in a while. "vowing a military response" uh, what the fuck have you been doing for the last 18 months Vlad? Its not like your response tonight will have anymore power to it than yesterdays. we all know that you are either going to swarm bomb either Kyiv or Odessa tonight to get back at those dastardly people protecting themselves from your unwarranted aggression you fucking POS

  9. Yep - I-35 runs along what was "East Avenue". In the 1928 the City of Austin Comprehensive Plan created a "negro district" on the East side of East avenue, making it effectively the only area of the city where public services or schools were available to black families. It also created zoning protection for certain areas of the city prohibiting various activities, while not protecting the East side. The Red line below is East avenue. The purple areas are non-white residential areas. The one on the far west of town is Clarksville, a freedman's colony which would hold out for a long time. So, in 1935 the Federal Government creates the Home Ownership Loan Corporation. By policy, they do not guarantee loans in "hazardous areas", and depict those areas on maps with red lines. These guidelines were then adopted by other financial services companies - insurance, business lending, etc. Do you agree that denying financing support to these areas likely suppressed the value of private property in them?

What's being called CRT is not critical race theory. It's factual history and an attempt to instill empathy for people that have been treated brutally in this country.

  23. I almost wrote something similar in the Dark Brandon thread, but didn’t want to derail the thread. The 2014 response to Russia was a grim failure of the Obama administration and Biden was sitting 2nd chair for that. When discussing on TOS, a lot of people were of the opinion that “we shouldn’t start WW3 over Crimea and East Ukraine.” Others, myself included, were of the opinion that it was only the beginning, appeasement never works, and we should learn from history and punch this bully in the mouth now then rather than wait for more damage to be done. The price we now pay for waiting is catastrophic. And we now know that Russia is a paper bear and would have been absolutely rolled out of Ukraine with very little heartache. We also now know that drawing a hard line and setting the terms up front for when NATO would intervene has kept any nuclear threat in check, as well. If there was ever a time for a Russian collapse and a push for dismantling their nuclear arsenal, it will be coming at the tail end of a Ukrainian victory.

  34. My dad read at least one newspaper a day and subscribed to a dozen various types of magazines. He's been gone 6 years now, but he was the king of clipping articles for people. Sometimes I would receive a large manila envelope in the mail if my pile grew too large between visits. He had separate piles for everyone, and caught a lot of grief from both my brother and me, but also his same-age friends for continuing to preserve and present hard copies instead of emailing links. In his effort to modernize, his process became the following: 1. Clip article 2. Give article clipping to secretary to scan into PDF 3. Secretary emails him PDF 4. Forward email from secretary containing PDF named something like XeroxMulticolorPrinter6_07.21.2023 with no other context. Edit: I can't believe I forgot to include the crown jewel of this process. If he saw an article online that he wanted to share, he would print it and then give the printout to his secretary to scan in order to begin Step 2 of the process described above.
