My friend from Nazareth (works as a tour guide and I hang out with her and her family every time I'm there)... digital silence. Can't get her by phone. Hasn't posted anything on FB or Insta since Thursday. UPDATE: Oh my God, just before submitting this I checked FB again and she just posted 4 mins ago. She and her family are safe. In hiding but safe. Tears in my eyes.31 points

In the opposite direction of a conversation pit. I'd like to see more enclosed Mexican style courtyards in the US with a big ass gate instead of a front yard. That way I never have to see my neighbors again but can still sit outside.19 points

They're assholes, no doubt. Young guys. Still, I'm more worried that these guys are allowed in my country. From similar US demonstrations: [Oh, sorry, the middle guys are ISIS terrorists. Don't know how I could have got them confused with the red-blooded Americans.] Sensible response alert! Head for the bunker over at DT. Yes. Those four teenagers could bring down the US any day now. TLDR: Fuck you.18 points

Macklemore/Icono's repeated Right Wing talking point that anyone showing any sort of support in the West is part of a "fifth column" (enemy from within), focusing on Middle Easterners. I'm not going to go looking for it, but he outright stated or strongly implied that Europe shouldn't have let Muslims/Middle Easterners in, which is rich, given his ethnicity. Also, his ongoing lie about his identity. Yes, a couple of his posts show people who appear to be celebrating the Hamas attacks, but he also groups in protesters who might just be generally supportive of Palestinian liberation. From a few of the clips, you can't tell the difference between the two motivations -- although I would also argue that protesting for Palestinian liberation during all of this is definitely in very poor taste. But calling them a "fifth column" goes too far. But I also take into account his body of work here and previously on Shaggy where he shows absolute contempt for anyone who's darker in complexion than he is, along with his well-established islamophobia. Then, of course, we have Frank Drebin/Johnny Sack (why do they keep changing handles?) chiming in with the racially/ethnically/religiously tinged comment that protestors in NY are "vermin." Again, I'm considering his posting history when remarking on that comment. I've got to say, I'm very uncomfortable with this type of stereotyping from both of those two absolute knobheads, and it's the kind of shit that I truly wish would be moderated better.16 points

A story with a good reminder I donβt want to talk about this, but considering current events, Iβll share something I saw in 2006 in Iraq. Understand that I hate discussing this. Not a single day goes by that I donβt think about it. One night our PL walks in the enlisted tent inside BIAP around 2300 and asks for volunteers. Being the crazy bastard I am, I immediately got up and began to put my armor on without saying a word. I grabbed the M249, a few extra belts, and some extra hand grenades and followed the LT to the motor pool where our M113 was waiting. We performed all our radio checks, fueled up, called in to HQ, and left the front gate. It was dark. Really dark. The air had an awful stench of burning trash and the water in the canals smelled of feces. A dead dog laid on the side of the road under a dimly lit street light outside the gate. It was very quiet. Like the world was dead. Perhaps it was in that moment. We proceeded to our objective. A small home with a humble adobe brick wall outside its perimeter with some very dim lights barely lighting up the courtyard. Out came a middle aged man, carrying a little girl who was screaming bloody murder. We brought her in the M113 where our medic immediately began to stabilize the wound on her right hand. Two of her fingers were missing just above the knuckle. She calmed down considerably once our medics took possession of her. We proceeded to take her back to BIAP to receiver proper treatment with the father riding along with us. I was pulling security with the M249 but I would occasionally glance back at the little girl who had a look of sorrow and desperation on her face. It felt routine but in some ways something wasnβt right. The following day, about a dozen 60mm mortars landed very close to our tents. Luckily nobody was hurt. We later learned that the father purposely cut his daughterβs fingers off so he could gain access to the FOB and collect intelligence. Not a single day goes by that I donβt see that little girls face. Not a day goes by that I donβt realize what that look was on the ride back. Not a single day goes by that I donβt wonder if she is still alive. Point isβ¦never underestimate the lengths your enemy is willing to go to in order to destroy you. Never forget the innocents who are caught in the middle.15 points

Every single F/A 18 on those carriers with MARINES painted on the side is flown by a crew well trained and dedicated to putting bombs, rockets, missiles, and hot lead on close air support targets called in by personnel on the ground. Any Marine squadron, and most Navy squadrons, on those carriers can provide an enormous amount of close combat fire support in addition to the roles Felix mentioned.15 points

Per Gerry Black no showed the A&M visit and came to Texas/OU, says that's nail in the coffin for A&M and it's only a matter of time for Texas. Terry Joseph will be visiting Wardell Mack - Texas has had very positive conversations with Mack in the last week. Texas continues to push for Carter flip. Milwee will be visiting Lacey(2025) Sark may be at Saraland or at Mater Dei because Mater Dei is playing St John Bosco. Blake Gideon will be going by McKinney to see that safety we just offered. His parents are separated according to Gerry....moved to Texas when he was younger. Mom still lives in Florida and he lives with dad in McKinney. The only logical motivation behind this attack that I can think is to pull US resources from Ukraine to support Israel. This whol thing has a Russian/Wagner stink all over it. From the tactics to the whole sale methodical slaughter of civilians. Executing people with gardening tools, beheading babies, etc. Sounds alot like Bucha to me.11 points

What the actual fuck is wrong with some of you? We get it this is serious and a lot of people are going to die and it's a terrible situation that's been brewing for the better part of a century that is unfortunately coming to a head with no clean or really any resolution in sight except a lot of pain and suffering for a lot of people. Stop calling people genocidal maniacs and fucking throwing around hyperbolic nonsense labels at people who are just trying to fucking talk through the complicated situation and maybe learn a thing or two about what's going on. I don't care who you are no one is an expert in this, not even within the fucking governments and militaries that are involved. That's how convoluted and fucked up this is, so please for fucks sake just keep this thread to the news and stop with the armchair pretend like you are going to fix the fucking middle east on surly bullshit.11 points

Listened to some Texags radio and Billy on the Bama defense "This is the best defense in the conference, Georgia included. Texas only had 13 points entering the 4th while the aggies had 17 at half". Never a mention about Texas finishing with 34 and the aggies finishing with 20. That's the moral victory the ags needed to hang their hat on this year.11 points

956 has lost his fucking mind. Sad to see. I would bet that there is some personal aspect of this that he is not sharing with us that drives his posting. It has always been interesting to me to see how people react to tens or hundreds or thousands of people being killed - and then losing their minds because of that. Donβt get me wrong, how can any decent human not be affected by that? But it is fascinating that the deaths of other people on other βteamsβ - or who die in manners less spectacularly evil than having a throat cut are deaths that do not matter as much. Those other dead peeps might beg to differ. I have asthma. It used to be pretty fucking horrific, actually, so thank you evil big pharma for helping me be alive - because it was a close call there for a while. I remember when several Republican administrations changed the EPA policy on how much pollution and particulates could be allowed in the air. Meaning they let far more of it into the air. I remember talking to someone who is losing their brain because of Benghazi and a couple American deaths, and I asked how come he wasnβt upset when the best estimates of United States government scientists said that 100,000 people a year more would die because of the change in environmental pollution standards the GOP implemented. I mean, 100,000 is more than 5 or 10. Naturally, I was told that 100,000 people figure is bullshit. All I could tell him is thatβs what the United States government scientists said. Letβs say they had an agenda and it was only half that amount. Fuck it. Letβs say it was a BIG agenda and only 10% of those people who would die because of the changed regulations died. That would be 10,000 more dead people in America a year. Nobody gave a shit. Unless someone is drinking the right wing Kool-Aid, you would have to admit that our attack on Iraq killed 200,000 to 600,000 civilians when water treatment plants, lack electricity to hospitals and water treatment and medicines - and related bombings - led to a health crisis in Iraq. So I might be cynical, but I raise an eyebrow when we are losing our minds over hundreds or even 1000 people killed, when our collective American souls had not one fucking problem with hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens dying. Or tens of thousands more Americans dying of pollution. A year. But Saddamβs kids raped some people, and he allegedly tried to kill Wβs daddy, so thatβs OK.<cue Lee Greenwood song> And, like I said, before, if anyone is keeping score, the IDF has killed far more Palestinian civilians than Hamas killed Israeli citizens in their rocket attacks and terrorist acts. When I say this do I condone Hamas slaughtering people? No. Do I condone terrorist attacks? No. Am I crying at the evil and incomprehensible acts of brutality against the innocent Israeli civilians that affect their families for the rest of their lives? Yes. Do I want all persons responsible for this dead? God damn right. But some of you motherfuckers need to get off picking one side on this issue in a simplistic version akin to βturning the sand to glassβ shit the right said in past Iraqi wars. Because if there was ever an issue that needed objective restraint, it is this issue. Because bombing the fuck out of one of the most densely populated areas in the fucking world and killing thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians is NOT going to lead to peace. It is going to lead to attacks on the 75th fucking anniversary of the Yom Kippur war. Because if youβre killing Israeli families, their family wants to kill you. And if you kill a Palestinian family, their family wants to kill the Israelis who killed them. And if those Israelis kill themβ¦ So, as I watch our president talk about the horror of the atrocities against the Israelis, I have to agree. When his rhetoric seems to paint them as these monsters who are evil beyond comprehension, I think of the hundreds of thousands of civilians we killed in Iraq, and all the families enjoying a wedding that we fucking killed in a drone strike. And there is indeed a vast galactic width difference between drone killing a wedding party by mistaken intel and cutting babies throats. But the families of loved ones killed by the drone strike do not care if we are monsters - or air force fuckups who made a mistake and only joined because they wanted some money for college. They care about dead innocent family members. I guess what Iβm saying is you can have hatred for the Hamas assholes who committed the terrorist acts all you want. You likely arenβt hating them enough. I co-sign. But I have issues with folks lumping all the Palestinians (who donβt have guns who arenβt armed, and who are caught between a bunch of terrorist madmen with guns and the IDF with guns) in one pile. Those people are living in fear, with no choice, and now with no food or water or electricity. I suggest you spend a moment to look at your own spirituality, and whatever religion you practice, and tamp down the hate on ALL the people in Gaza a bit because it will get us exactly fucking nowhere.10 points
