  1. The irony is I am literally a Philosophy major, but fuck it I will bite. Your posts are writhe with over-analyzations of something you know little about-Football. You speak of coaching as if it's chess and as simple as moving pieces around on the board. However, in football the pieces are flawed and prone to be ineffective from time to time. So when you use The Queen's Gambit it doesn't always work regardless of setting it up perfectly. On 1st down on the goal line there is a big, gaping, walk-in hole to the right that Brooks doesn't see. You see for all Brooks' talents he is a sophomore, and has really only seen action this year. So you try to run outside. Campbell pulls, but when he does, he retreats backwards about 3 yards and then loops around outside, giving the edge rusher enough time to stack him and Murphy up and blow up the play. He is young. He will learn to take a more direct route. 40 seconds to make a decision. Your quarterback has already thrown a pick down here and its even heavier traffic for eyes of a guy who is 20 yrs old and played exactly 15 college games to navigate. Let's try that first play again since there was a big hole on the right side. You run it again and Sweat muscles his guy 3 yards into the endzone. Brooks, instead lowering his pads, taking the ball and running right up Sweat's backside, dances in the backfield and gets swarmed. Now its 4th down and you realize you need to throw it. You don't have a jump ball guy. You have a basket catcher(Worthy), a guy who is contact shy and a loafer(Mitchell), and a guy who is very physical but otherwise not blowing you away with athletic ability. So you use the physical player to block for the basket catcher and don't get in. RPO slants don't work on the 1 yrd line because the time it takes to run them will get your QB killed. Too many defenders around the LOS firing off the ball. We don't have a jump ball guy to throw fades to, and throwing over the middle is not something you wanna do with a kid who threw two picks in a game already. Guys like you, who don't understand the game at a basic level, are always pontificating about what a coach should've done in hindsight. Any play that worked was a great call. Any play that failed and the coach is a moron. Hindsight is 20/20. Red threw a perfect ball to Helm. Great call. If the throw was errant, "What a fucking stupid call, Sark. Just run the football". You guys would be killing Sark if this play didn't work. It did so it was a genius call. Creative. Aggressive. Gutsy. Everybody is chest-bumping in their livingroom. This is the first down look that Brooks had on the goal line. What coach wouldn't go back to that when that was the look you got? Huge hole on the right and if Brooks puts his foot in the ground he walks in. 3rd down, and at this point in the still Brooks is already dancing. Sweat and Campbell destroy their men, and had Brooks just put his head down and run right behind them he would be in. Then we would all be here talking about what a great call that is by Sark. Sark comes out throwing the football. Run the damn ball Sark!!! Then he runs the damn ball and we are pissed that he doesn't throw it. Meanwhile, if after 1st down and goal he threw it incomplete three times all of you would be here yelling about how we didn't run the damn ball on the 1 yard line. It's just like our last drive. All these motherfuckers here(you included) saying slow the ball down don't know what the fuck they are talking about. Go back and watch the last drive. Every time Ewers snaps the ball OU is still looking for the call from the sideline and struggling to get set. Then OU has a player "get hurt", and then the very next play they sack Ewers. They basically made a timeout for themselves to get the defense situated. Anyone who said "well you can hurry back to the line and still burn clock". Well, the defense can still get their play in and run all kinds of exotics. When you are going fast they have to stay in a base call. You allow them to get calls in and you get what you got on the sack play. If going fast gets you down the field you go fast. We are not trying to "Turtle Tom" here, we are trying to be aggressive and go score. If the motherfucker went slow and got his QB sacked or pressured and we couldn't get up the field you guys would be in here talking about how tempo was working and why would he slow it down when Quinn was 22 for 23 up to that point and blah blah blah. In 21 we went 5-7 but 5 of those losses were one score games. In 22 we went 8-5. Quarterback gets knocked out for Bama and we lose 2 games with the backup, also one score, and then three one score games, including our bowl games with our two RBs out. Now we are 5-1, and while losing to OU sucks you can see the team getting better from on field production to overall roster. Yet here you are talking out the side of your neck when this team is headed in the right direction. Now carry on with your bullshit.

  6. She's coming home, y'all! My family was in the market for a lab puppy already. We have a 4 year old black lab named Rocco that we got through the Heart of Texas Lab Rescue (HIGHLY recommended, btw), and had already setup an appointment for early November to meet some black or yellow lab puppies with them. I clicked on the banner ad today and saw that a fellow poster who lived 15 minutes away had a yellow lab puppy that needed a home. That felt like a sign. We're in the market for a yellow lab puppy, and there's a poster down the street who needs to find a home for one. It's all coming together. We brought the family and Rocco down to meet this sweet girl and after a few short minutes of trepidation, she happily sought out and accepted pets from each of the four humans in the family. Brought Rocco out of the car to meet his soon-to-be new sister and they got along great. Rocco is typically a VERY enthusiastic play partner, so I was a little concerned about him being too high-energy for a somewhat skittish girl. But he calibrated his energy levels so well with her that it all just felt like a great fit. Thanks so much to @Felix and his lovely wife for taking this sweet girl in, caring for her, and finding her a new home. Which will be our home. She's gonna miss the acre of land to run around on and will have to adjust to our much smaller backyard. But she will be loved. She comes home tomorrow and I will update with pictures. Unless the wimmens in Felix's family decide they can't part with her, which would be understandable.

  18. I'm just rooting for no one to get genocided at this point. Let's all raise a glass and ride this planet to hell! But seriously, I hate this. I hate everything about all of this. I hate what Hamas did. I hate what Israel and Palestine have been doing to each other with varying degrees of depravity on both sides for decades. I hate that Palestinians turned to a hateful, bloodthirsty, right-wing fundamentalist terror group to lead them even if it was out of pure desperation. Even if most want peace with Israel, it's just a hard thing for most people to get past. I hate that this kind of status quo is seemingly the only way for Israeli Jews to feel "safe". I hate Israel's oppression of and brutality towards Palestinians and their insanely reactionary right-wing government, and how it has led them down the road of an oppressive apartheid that no one wanted. I hate that the rhetoric and vibe surrounding all of this is so similar to post-9/11. I hate to see otherwise reasonable people reverting to using racist tropes and calling for millions of people to be exterminated because of things that are, at this point, entirely out of their control. I hate to see those same people piling up justifications so that they can hand wave away genocide when it inevitably happens. I hate to see the same "Do You Condemn?" game being played that was played post-9/11 ad nauseum. I hate to see otherwise reasonable people discuss America's post-9/11 reaction, in comparison to the current situation, as if any of it was good. As if it wasn't insanely reactionary, devastating, and doesn't still have many lasting negative repercussions around the world. I hate that hundreds of thousands, if not millions, will be/are being blamed for the actions of a few, exactly as happened post-9/11. I hate that it's almost impossible to be seen as objective in this situation no matter which "side" you support and what aspects of the other side you criticize. It's impossible to be critical of anything the Israeli government does without some dipshit accusing you of being anti-semitic,. but that's nothing new in America. It's just ramped up to 11 now. I hate that there is just an absolute flood of misinformation about things going on over there. It serves only to mute/diminish the impact of the real atrocities that are certainly being committed (whether it be by Hamas or the IDF) and it makes reconciliation and fact-finding extraordinarily difficult. I hate that this is seemingly just another proxy war in a sea of them. The world powers manipulating the downtrodden (yes I'm including Israel here) to secure more power for themselves. I hate that our arguments on this conflict tend to devolve into "Well what should _____ do then?" because none of us have an adequate answer. I hate, hate, that I don't know how to fix it and neither do you.

  19. Apollo moon landing denier: We didn't land on the moon Everybody else: There were hundreds of thousands of Americans involved with the program who would have known it was fake prior to it happening. A month after Apollo 11 landed in 1969, McDonald Observatory in West Texas, affiliated with the University of Texas, was bouncing a laser off of a reflector that Neil Armstrong set up, and they've been doing it ever since. Denisers: So what? We still didn't land on the moon. Everybody else: America beating the Soviets to the moon was humiliating after the Soviets had been beating us for the prior decade in all manner of space exploration, and the Soviets tracked Apollo 11 with telescopes and other instruments, and had spies within the US government, and if we had faked it, the Soviets would have made sure the entire world knew. And plenty of other countries and even individuals tracked it with telescopes. Denisers: So what? We still didn't land on the moon. Everybody else: In the 50+ years since then, other nations have photographed the Apollo landing sites on the moon with probes/satellites, that perfectly match up with the footage taken by NASA astronauts. Which means if the program was faked, we would have had to, in the full view of the Soviet Union and the world, get spacecraft up there on the moon in 1969 and the early 70s, and somehow, using robots with technology that didn't exist back then, would have faked the landing sites. Denisers: So what? We still didn't land on the moon. Everybody else: The Soviet Union, even though they were humiliated, told the world that we won the space race and they had the Apollo 11 astronauts travel on a goodwill tour around the Soviet Union. Denisers: So what? We still didn't land on the moon.

  24. It depends. Some weapons systems, such as the F-35, are developed from the outset in conjunction with international partners. The United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey, Australia, Norway, Denmark, and Canada together contributes $4.4 billion towards development costs of the F-35. The United Kingdom contributed 10% of the planned development costs as the sole Tier 1 partner. Other weapons systems are developed by the likes of Boeing and Lockheed and are never picked up by any military, so it is the shareholders--and not the taxpayers--who are on the hook for that. Lockheed's Skunkworks does a lot of that. Some of what they learn gets incorporated into subsequent designs that are picked up by the military. But plenty of it just goes in the trash. And then there are other weapons systems for which there is a design competition. The F-35 is another example. Boeing also submitted a design in the Joint Strike Fighter design competition (the XF-32), but it ultimately wasn't chosen. The taxpayers don't pay for that; Boeing bears all the risk there.

"Join the US military, if you're a woman we can't promise you health care, and for all of you the chance for promotion is currently zero at the highest levels. Congress is probably about ensure a government shut down so you might not get paid, but we need you young people to come fight for an America that you're probably super disillusioned with. And since we've got a debt problem, we can't afford to sweeten the pot." I mean, the return of a draft might be likely at some point, and those are words I never thought I'd type.

  41. Hamas is evil. I think taking Hamas down is the right thing to do, for Israel. No matter how careful they may be, there will be innocents (many children) killed, and in horrible ways. Hamas uses its civilian populace as shields, much as the Japanese did in Okinawa. It is right to grieve them. It only makes sense to question why. It is an error to say that Israel should not take down Hamas, due to the loss of innocent Palestinian life. This is not a book or movie; there is no elegant solution where only evil is punished and innocence spared. The US was on the right side in WWII, in both theatres. We ended the Pacific War by dropping nukes on civilian population centers. I do grieve the loss of innocent Japanese civilian life, even as I don’t believe an apology is needed. This is how I rationalize it (and I do acknowledge this may just be a rationalization) - “We were at war with monsters, and to defeat them, we did monstrous things”. In my mind, I can apportion more blame to the Imperial Hapanese leadership than to ours. I am glad I’ll never be asked to make Truman’s decision. I’m glad Truman made it. Israel is surrounded by monsters. To stay safe, it will have to do things, not monstrous (like nuking), but cold hearted. I will apportion more blame for the loss of Palestinian civilian life to Hamas than to Israel.
