Not that I condone fascism, or any ism for that matter. Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I'd still have to bum rides off people.20 points

This is unusually forward-leaning for the EU. I really think that the unavoidable comparisons between last Saturday and Bucha, Irpin means that a lot of Europeans were in no mood to do their usual balancing act. What’s amazing is that if Hamas had used their operational surprise to only target military personnel, equipment, and security infrastructure the mood really could have been a lot different. Basically an opportunity for Hamas to launder their image into legit freedom fighters squandered for the pleasure of gunning down women in the desert and looting community farms.13 points

Christian fundamentalism is by any measure substantially more dangerous to Americans than Islamist fundamentalism. There's many millions more of them, they have the sympathies of law enforcement all around the country, and they hold serious political power.13 points

This. I don't think I have seen anyone here advocate Israel just ignore the attacks by Hamas. What many are questioning is the hyperfocus on the cause for Israeli retaliation and calling for the IDF to institute rules of engagement that adhere to international rules of war. Primarily the part about protecting civilians that are up shit creek without a paddle. When some people throw out phrases like "a population has to be responsible for its government" or quoting dumb shit kids say it sounds like they are justifying that Palestinian civilians do not qualify for basic humanitarian rights and should be treated no different than cockroaches. From my point of view, Israel is justified in waging war on Hamas. There isn't a need to the fan flames by dehumanizing Palestinians and Israel must implement rules of engagement and take every step necessary to avoid harming civilians. There is no need to reveal in the atrocities of the Hamas, that's for revenge porn fiends that get high off the thought of seeing mass uncontrolled violence.12 points

its pretty specific stuff in the article. to me, there is not a lot to be inferred from things like this: from NYT article: and and and WSJ: and and if you think Hamas did this on their own exclusively, idk what to tell you. this is not backed up by either of these reports and articles. at this point we have corroborating info from WSJ, NYT and other sources saying pretty conclusively that Hamas worked with those orgs to train and collaborated (6 months of provocations along northern border, hostage training, paragliding, planning) Leroy Jenkings analogy sounds like they just fucked around and sent a bunch of dudes across with minimal planning and goals and with no clear idea of kidnapping people (the operatives didn't just come to this on their own, and if you are kidnapping that many you have to have ideas for where you are going to keep them, feed them, etc ahead of time) these dudes didn't go out paragliding because of the weather then halfway through decide "hey there is a music festival, let's go kill em" nor were they life long paragliders. you can pick which you believe and trust, we just are not going to see eye to eye on this front. this seems pretty crystal clear to me, but to say there is "no evidence of any coordination" is choosing to ignore a lot of reporting on this very specific topic.12 points

That's thermite, not willie pete. Thermite is a point use incendiary made with aluminum, iron oxide, an ignition source, and binders. Willie pete is an area incendiary consisting of elemental phosphorous, which ignites on contact with air. As the demonstration in basic (mine was on the engine compartment of an old tank, burning through the armor covering the engine, the engine block, and the bottom armor, then several inches into the ground) illustrates, thermite is used to destroy vehicles, artillery, and equipment to which one has close access. White phosphorus is packed into mortar and artillery rounds to be scattered over a target area to ignite canvas, wood, and other flammable materials used by the enemy. This definition includes uniforms. As has been mentioned, white phosphorus is very difficult to extinguish until it burns itself out. It will burn deep into flesh, drawing oxygen from the organic material around it. It is not supposed to be used against personnel, but if they are too close to the targeted materials (in their uniforms, which are the real target), tough luck. We were trained to use it against forward arming points, motor pools, and supply dumps. It is against the rules to use it indiscriminately to just blanket an area, but Russia doesn't give a shit about rules.10 points

I wanted to reimburse Felix for any vet bills he incurred clearing her and he said someone else covered it. You generous liar! But seriously, Felix is a great dude with a great family. They took this sweet girl in and cared for her when she needed it most. They gave her the love that she needed, spent money on a dog they knew wouldn’t be a permanent member of their family, and we were lucky to be the first people to respond to their post. Foster families embody the kind of “community above everything” spirit that, if we were all to embrace, would make the world a much better place. Good on you man. Happy to have met you under these great circumstances. Felix’s family named her Penny and it stuck. Penny is pooped. She is snoozing in Rocco’s bed. She will be moved to the crate here in a minute when I go to bed.10 points

Was kinda high last night and craving tomato soup. Soften some shallots in butter and evoo, add a clove of garlic and stir until fragrant, then dump in the fresh tomatoes, basil and thyme and add S&P to taste. When the tomatoes get soft, pull out the thyme stems and throw it all in the ninja with a cup of chicken stock. Back in the pot With a little smoked Gouda and heavy cream for a quick simmer, and wala! The grilled cheese was smoked Gouda and provolone with a slice of prosciutto.9 points

American and NATO forces faced similar situations in Iraq and Afghanistan while also operating under rules of engagement. This is part of the responsibility that Western liberal democracies have and what differentiates them from countries like Russia. If Israel wants to be viewed like the West as a liberal democracy then they should be held to the same standards.9 points

i used to bitch and moan about McCaul as he was once my Rep in my very gerrymandered US District in Austin, but at this point i would consider myself lucky to have him and not the many of alternatives the GOP has to offer. i may disagree with 95% of his positions, but at least he is a reasoned mature adult. Man, a lot has changed in the GOP in the last 15 to 20 years.9 points
