  1. The Oslo Accords are a pair of agreements between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO): the Oslo I Accord, signed in Washington, D.C., in 1993;[1] and the Oslo II Accord, signed in Taba, Egypt, in 1995.[2] They marked the start of the Oslo process, a peace process aimed at achieving a peace treaty based on Resolution 242 and Resolution 338 of the United Nations Security Council, and at fulfilling the "right of the Palestinian people to self-determination". The Oslo process began after secret negotiations in Oslo, Norway, resulting in both the recognition of Israel by the PLO and the recognition by Israel of the PLO as the representative of the Palestinian people and as a partner in bilateral negotiations. Among the notable outcomes of the Oslo Accords was the creation of the Palestinian National Authority, which was tasked with the responsibility of conducting limited Palestinian self-governance over parts of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip; and the international acknowledgement of the PLO as Israel's partner in permanent-status negotiations about any remaining issues revolving around the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. Bilateral dialogue stems from questions related to the international border between Israel and a future Palestinian state: negotiations for this subject are centred around Israeli settlements, the status of Jerusalem, Israel's maintenance of control over security following the establishment of Palestinian autonomy, and the Palestinian right of return. The Oslo Accords did not create a definite Palestinian state.[3] A large portion of the Palestinian population, including various Palestinian militant groups, staunchly opposed the Oslo Accords; Palestinian-American philosopher Edward Said described them as a "Palestinian Versailles".[4]
  2. My interpretation of what What the Buck said was the Torah gives Jews the right to the middle east. Since he doesn't believe in God or religion, then a made up book and Imaginary Man in the Sky isn't a good of a claim on that land as a Deed recorded at the County and some title insurance. I think you're minimizing the threat the Palestinians pose to the Israelis, e.g., if they only kill 35 people a year that's 0.01% of the population. Statistically, Philadelphia is a fairly safe city. But I wouldn't just go walking around north of Girard Boulevard right now.
  3. The Hamas Covenant The Covenant of the Islamic Resistance Movement was issued on August 18, 1988. The Islamic Resistance Movement, also known as the HAMAS, is an extremist fundamentalist Islamic organization operating in the territories under Israeli control. Its Covenant is a comprehensive manifesto comprised of 36 separate articles, all of which promote the basic HAMAS goal of destroying the State of Israel through Jihad (Islamic Holy War). The following are excerpts of the HAMAS Covenant: Goals of the HAMAS: "The Islamic Resistance Movement is a distinguished Palestinian movement, whose allegiance is to Allah, and whose way of life is Islam. It strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine." (Article 6) On the destruction of Israel: "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it." (Preamble) The exclusive Moslem nature of the area: "The land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf [Holy Possession] consecrated for future Moslem generations until Judgment Day. No one can renounce it or any part, or abandon it or any part of it." (Article 11) "Palestine is an Islamic land... Since this is the case, the Liberation of Palestine is an individual duty for every Moslem wherever he may be." (Article 13) The call to jihad: "The day the enemies usurp part of Moslem land, Jihad becomes the individual duty of every Moslem. In the face of the Jews' usurpation, it is compulsory that the banner of Jihad be raised." (Article 15) "Ranks will close, fighters joining other fighters, and masses everywhere in the Islamic world will come forward in response to the call of duty, loudly proclaiming: 'Hail to Jihad!'. This cry will reach the heavens and will go on being resounded until liberation is achieved, the invaders vanquished and Allah's victory comes about." (Article 33) Rejection of a negotiated peace settlement: "[Peace] initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement... Those conferences are no more than a means to appoint the infidels as arbitrators in the lands of Islam... There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility." (Article 13)
  4. It thought that was a solid post but I don't quite agree with the last sentence. Someone else did a pretty good analysis of this upthread. Let me see if I can find it. (insert quoted text here) OK, I looked at these. The UN report is just that: a summation of Israeli expansion (illegal by even their own laws it says. Not sure if they are violating the Future Land Use or zoning map or some a civil law stating they are not permitted to expand into certain areas for political reasons). It seems to me that the ruling Israeli party has decided to "get while the getting is good" and plant their flag anywhere they don't want any chance Palestinians might live. When I visited (2007) there were a ton of Eastern Europeans walking around. I assumed Russia wanted them out and Israel was happy for more population. That report also cited the number of attacks on Palestinians during this expansion. The Amnesty Intl outlined more of the difficulties Palestinians, and quite frankly it sucks to be them.* (So I did read them). Realistically I think the window is closed for "maybe we can work this out" with Israel. *Basically they blame Israel for everything. I wonder if maybe if they used 10% of their daily effort making things better for their people maybe they would be OK? I blame Big XII refs for a lot, particularly the 2015 Okie State game. But no one cares, really. It's in the books as a loss.
  5. FWIW I don't get how what he posted is anti-Semitic, either. Can you explain why?
  6. I don't have a dog in this fight. But I don't think Hamas any possibility at all of winning an armed conflict. As someone else noted, Hamas is doing the bidding of others, most likely the ones who provided them with those missiles. So everything that transpired in the last two days is a futile waste of human life. Unless Hamas is successful in drawing (presumably) Iran into using whatever arsenal they have to destroy Israel nothing will change "for the better" in their eyes. I appreciate the Nat Turner Revolt example, but if the surrounding nations don't come to their aid this was a stupendously bad move. It's a tough sell but Hamas should have voluntarily disarmed and tried to coexist peacefully.
  7. You'll do a lot better with your arguments if you cite some sources. Below is from CNN: Did you ever respond to these questions?
  8. aggy goes to Knoxville next week. Best 2 3 loss team in the country.
  9. Thanks. (Side note, but I've heard similar things about Mountbatten and his India, Pakistan, Bangladesh thinking).
  10. OK, you get a gold star for Picot Ascot or whatever that was. You didn't explain much about it, though.
  11. Truman could have waited another week before dropping that second bomb.
  12. She grew up in Pennington, NJ, about 5 miles away from me. Just so everyone here understands: Hannibal Lecter played the role of Hannibal Lecter on TV. Got it?
  13. Has Hamas been willing to sign a peace treaty with Israel? Or are they still working with the "Israel has no right to exist" thing? Since I can't get anyone to engage about the history, here it is. I didn't realize Egypt was blockading Gaza as well. Anyone know why?
  14. 1. Based on historical events I can understand why Jews believe "by any means necessary." 2. As I mentioned earlier, it would help to understand the rationale for creating a nation state out of someone else's land. The Brits seemed unusually bad at thinking ideas like this through.
  15. Can you cite an example one of each, and post a link that to prove that it wasn't in retaliation for a prior attack or use of say, a school or hospital, as a staging point for weapons or the like? Like this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/07/31/why-hamas-stores-its-weapons-inside-hospitals-mosques-and-schools/
  16. Did Israel invade Gaza?
  17. Since a lot of what goes on in the Middle East is layer upon layer of scar tissue, can you go back in time to some of the "original sin" of this conflict? Can you tell us a little about Black September and why they attacked the Israeli athletes at Munich? Were there Israeli aggressions prior to that? When did Israel wall off Gaza and was it in response to anything in particular? I hear you when you say there will be collateral damage to innocent Palestinians. Was there an opposition political party in Gaza that is trying to prevent the escalation of violence? How many rockets have been fired at Israel in the past two days, and how does all that get hidden?
  18. So let me ask you a question: You know there are Arabs of all kinds walking around Israel. I mentioned that in Goyim Observations. How do they differ from those in Gaza? You know there are Arabs in the West Bank who aren't blowing shit up all the time (that said, there are checkpoints you have to drive through and we were told not to stop the car or pick up hitchhikers). How do they differ from those in Gaza? My impression of Hamas and Gaza is best summed up in that meme about the guy on a bike putting a stick in his spokes and then blaming someone else. Maybe you can speak to why they are being squeezed and whether they had the opportunity to take a more rational course. I'll hang up and listen.
  19. Games like ASU and CSU were better indicators of how much the program has turned around, which it has. Can't learn much from a blowout win or loss.
  20. In this week's edition of Goyim Observations, we speak with Bullneck, world renown numbskull: "I heard once that most of what is modern day Israel was just desert, kinda like the area between Pecos and El Paso. Then the Jews were looking for a site for a post-Holocaust homeland and all Europeans said NIMBY. Finally the British said, "Welp, Lancashire is off limits but we got some land we'll give you for free. It's right over there. Over there (pointing). Just head out a thousand miles or kilometers and you're home! In the Holy Land. What's not to like?" So, the kinfolk moved to Galilee, as the song goes. Eventually the Israelis got tired of the Brits and tried to blow them up in the King David Hotel. And the other countries in the area weren't super happy about things either. But the real issue is what about the people who were already there and what kind of "deal" they got when Israel was created. Now that Israel is developed and prosperous and looks like Souther California from the air (I thought i was landing at LAX the one time I flew into Tel Aviv) and has a lot of people, there is some tension. Also, only about half of the people in Israel are Jews, the rest are Arab and since they multiply on the Boebert timeline eventually they will minority majority. I think that last part is the root of the latest ultra right wing moves Bibi is making. They are ready to do whatever it takes to ensure the Jewish state survives, no matter the cost or political damage. I can recall 30ish years ago hearing about Israel bulldozing non-Jewish housing and building settlements, which is likely to piss people off. The level of violence has gotten so bad the Israelis have walled off the Gaza Strip (governed by Hamas, which is significantly worse than the government of the West Bank). I disagree with Brian Fantana's assessment that Gaza is an open air prison. They have access to the Med, which should be worth something. The problem is they have a significant population of extremists that can't control themselves." Anyone with actual knowledge want to fact check this?
  21. Wondering that myself. He seems to have no connection to Leach. Uniting the fan base, I guess.
