  1. Equinox.....bizarre shit. I've been to prob 20 shows a year since 1978 and never seen anything like any of those.

Best is probably Rusty Wier on stage the day after he broke his foot. Prob. 1978. He was playing guitar and dancing around the stage in an old style walking cast.

  2. Charley Pride was always a staple in the old man's LP collection.

And I remember the day he bought this album.  Classic group of songs.  It had been out of print for a few years, then around 71 they rereleased it.

  3. Y'all got plenty of Kelly Willis on this thread.
    And Emmylou made an appearance.
    So, I'm good.
Y'all stay clear of Kelly, though....she's mine.  Pretty sure that Bruce and I have an understanding about that.
In 93, she put out that comeback album after Lyle Lovett talked her in to that EP with Jay Farrar (Son Volt) and Greg Olson (Jayhawks). First song on the solo album was written by M. Pallermo and B. Robinson. I called my brother. "Your drinking buddy.... basketball player from WT. Could he have written a song with Kelly Willis' husband that Kelly recorded"?

"I don't know. Let me call him"

In a bit he called me back and said...."one guess on who answered the phone. Never mind.. Kelly Willis.... Kelly fucking Willis just answered his phone."

I posted a YouTube if Kelly's new song from her new record. Pledge.com has some great deals to support her. Brisket......I have some great stories.....I'll send them separately.

You other assholes......buy Kelly's new record and support her live tour.

  4. I just found this Phil Baugh video from the early 80s and he is playing one of these.  Peavey T series guitar with a steel guitar string pulling system connected to it.  All the videos I've found show them connected to a Peavey guitar.

This is Mr. Baugh in action.

  5. Evan got that line from a buddy.   A bunch of guys were planning to meet early one morning to get horses ready to ride, but none of them showed up.   So, one guy was left to do all the work.  He said that line, essentially saying that everyone wants to have fun but no one wants to put in the work.

I never thought about a marriage methophor angle, but could be.  It is a great line though.

Hadn't heard of Charlie Crockett before we got our tickets for Red Rocks.  Sometimes he sounds like he's got a mouthful of marbles but I'm really starting to like his songs.

Combination of old country, cajun and western swing, with some blues thrown in.  On CDs, it can get kind of old, but he is a fucking hoot at a live show.  Really friendly guy.  One of my buddies at the last show said, "That dude is a fucking minstrel."
