  1. The Mandy Moore doesn't set well with me. Not blaming the victim here but she knew what she was getting in to when she married the asshole. Even once she got him to quit drinking and his mental issues were finally able to be diagnosed, he was still an asshole.

Now that she has the acting spotlight from that shitty show, she finally starts complaining that he is an asshole.

Hell, we have all known that for years.

  2. An orange Gretsch is like a red Ferrari -- it's never wrong.

But I sure like that light green . . .

I think I'm going with the light green. Not something you see every day. Just had a classy look about it.

  3. Which color of Gretsch. The bigger hollow body.
First pic. Bottom row. Red or Orange. Pic 2. Blue.
Pic 3. Bottom row. Light Green. I really like that dark green color in the middle row but not the guitar I want.

I'm having the tune-a-matic replaced with a roller bridge on whatever I decide on.

Pic 4. That white with gold hardware is striking but again, not the model I want. a7842769524a9c56c0e5f0e879ce7e60.jpgbf905c82e6b4b2eccf8b8da8a41e227a.jpgd19db3a5a232a746897053a62bf1afc4.jpga53f0798a1212a4c25948a62619d6bbe.jpg

  4. I wouldn't have pegged him as a particularly funny guy, but I definitely would enjoy this.  His solo album was really solid.
I took two friends who had no idea who he was and they came away fans. Honestly, the time was halfway split between music and stories. Great crowd interaction. I wish I had stayed for the second show to compare them. But it didn't come off as canned story telling.
  5. Caught B.J. Barham (leader of American Aquarium) on Sunday night.  200 seat music room in Atlanta.  Great show....funny as hell, but very introspective.  He treats his audience like Justin Townes Earle should.   HIGHLY recommend seeing him.  Songs are more like Ryan Bingham, with better, stronger vocals.    Reminds me of Jon Dee Graham.  Clip doesn't show how funny he is...but shows his songwriting talent and vocal strength.

This is stuff I’m buying. So I can make sure it matches.

Just looking for a setup that we can use to provide our own equipment for a small space if we need to. Drums and amps would not be miked. And for rehearsals. We already have most of the stuff just need a better mixer and monitors.

What monitors and mains are you buying?  Already have?

Speaking of those wounds. I loaned that Telecaster I assembled to a friend in Texas before I left the last time I was there. His band is opening for the Turnpike Troubadors this weekend and he asked if he could borrow it for that show. He thinks its one of the best Telecasters he's played.

Here's me jamming on it with him a few weeks ago.

Who is he?   I saw where Charley Crockett just had open heart surgery, so was wondering who was opening for TT.

Question: I need a mixer to run 4 mics, two acoustic guitars and provide outs to two powered mains and three powered monitors (two front stage and 1 for the drummer).

Will this run the monitors? I’m not seeing xlr monitor outs on this or any similar products. How would I hook up the monitors?

Please keep this conversation going here.  I'm about to be in the market for exactly the same set up.    And T-Bone, I still owe you those pictures.  I'll get them tonight at practice.

This is what I thought of first.  The thing that makes that last verse so perfect is that all through the song, it is just about a drunk dude in a bar.  Seeming down on his luck.  Then Isbell pulls out a fucking sledgehammer and hits you right in the nuts with this verse.  To me, it is easily his best song.  I'm bummed that he never plays it anymore.

  10. The light keeps coming on,
I've got water in the fuel.

    My brakes are gone,
I've got a left front tire throwing thread.

By tomorrow morning, I could be dead.
Baby, maybe you were right all along.

  11. Bummer about Mr. Dunlop.   Years ago, I was running a website for a high school soccer booster club.  That year, the boy's team was in the finals and when we go to the other stadium, their principal kept moving us around in the stadium and when we finally told him we weren't moving anymore, he threatened to call the police and have us removed.  We said, Fine...do it.   He threw a pre-K style fit, then stormed off but not after yelling at us for about an hour.   Our team won in extra time.  As we were sitting in the parking lot talking about the game (again, these are parents, not kids) he called the police and had them threaten us with trespassing.   The state athletic association got involved and the next year, both him and the AD were removed by the school district.

But the parents continued to whine the next year about losing the game and how we (again, parents) wrecked their stadium, tore up fencing and apparently burned down several buildings on the campus (at least to hear them talk about it).   They whined on every bulletin board about soccer they could find.

So, I had a page on our website dedicated to the State Championship game.  Pictures of the game but also of the principal and AD threatening us.  It was 'sponsored by' Jim Dunlop, complete with a picture of a Cry Baby pedal.  All of those parents were bitching and complaining to "this Dunlop guy."  They wanted to boycott his business but none of them could find him.   Our AD asked me who he was and how much money he gave us in sponsorship.  When I told him the story, he said, "Let's just keep this to ourselves."

Pour one out for Jim.   And Starrs Mill High School can still suck it.

  12. Way more than a closing line, but one of my favorites.  Lynnville Train by REK.  When he says he reaches into his coat, you always wonder if he has a gun in there and is going to shoot them.  To me, it is his best job of writing.

    ============

Steel wheels scream, the whistle blows,
    His heart is breaking
She steps onto the platform, her new love by her side
He reaches in his coat, his had is shaking
The time has finally come, this really is goodbye

His story is he's changed his mind,
    He just can't help himself
So he's getting on board the Lynnville train
And moving on to someplace else
As the train pulls out he watches them both
    Standing in the pouring rain
He's headed for a new life down the line
    On the Lynnville Train
  13. First the lights, then the collar goes up, and the wind begins to blow
Turn your back on a pay-you-back, last call
First the glass, then the leaves that pass, then comes the snow
Ain't much to rake anyway in the fall
