  1. https://www.ncaa.org/news/2021/8/13/general-video-review-challenges-approved-for-softball.aspx#:~:text=Under the new rule%2C each, the entirety of the game.

Don't know if there are exceptions,  seems like more.  Official rule above says 2 reviews by coach the the entirety of game.    The umpire can review after the 6th inning,  the way I read.

I think coaches sometimes ask for a review/player change if on offense only to disrupt the opposing pitcher's rhythm.

  2. Nice story and info from KXAN.   Excerpts:

“Coach Conradt means the world to me,” he said. “It’s what I envisioned when I took the job, her coming into the office and us drinking coffee the morning after the game and talking over the game. Like, how can you not value that expertise, that wisdom? I may have been coaching for 39 years, y’all, but I’m smart enough to know I can’t do it by myself.”

After she sat out of the Gonzaga game while in concussion protocol, forward Taylor Jones practiced Saturday, Schaefer said. That’s a step in the right direction for her to be available against the Wolfpack, but Schaefer didn’t confirm if she’ll play.

Texas got great minutes from Amina Muhammad, DeYona Gaston and Ndjakalenga Mwenentenda in Jones’ absence, on top of Aaliyah Moore’s tremendous game with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Texas is going to need all of its low-block players to match up with the Wolfpack’s frontcourt.

“They have a big, physical inside game, which we have to deal with a lot in the Big 12,” Schaefer said. “We’ve had to guard some really good inside players, and he (NC State coach Wes Moore) certainly has that. They’re so physical.”

  3. MW postgame quote.    Hopefully,  he addressed hitting but was not published.    We had 7 hits off Kilfoyl on Thursday, 2 today.   She adjusted, we did not.    The HBP by Czech was costly and  added a runner with the error to set the stage for the 3 run HR.   Hindsight always 20/20,  but may have been a good time to visit circle since next batter Wang leads OKSt with 11 HRs and added another.

No surprise OU swept Kansas.   Neither team plays until the series next Friday.    Team confidence took a hit in this weekend.

Unfortunately, though, Oklahoma State's Lexi Kilfoyl (13-2) was doing the same thing to the Texas offense as Longhorn batters were retired in order in four different innings, while no more than one UT batter reached base during the same inning on the afternoon. Martinez was the only batter to reach second base during the game as the Arizona native advanced to second on a ground ball off the bat of Alyssa Washington for the second out in the second inning.

    FROM HEAD COACH MIKE WHITE

"I think we showed we have the ability, but, unfortunately, we just had that one mistake today. The depth of our staff is the strength of our staff. Mac Morgan is throwing pretty well right now. Estelle Czech did a great job with the exception of the one mistake. And, of course, Citlaly (Gutierrez) pitched real well last night and Teagan (Kavan) will bounce back. And we always have Sophia (Simpson) as well, so what we have to take is that we can pitch well in these situations."

  4. Great win.

Will be interesting to see the pitching decisions Saturday.   Do they go back to game 1 starters,  Or does MW go with Simpson, Mac, or Czech ?    OkSt has used their 3 best (Kilfoyl, Rosenberry, Aycock).  They have a freshman Katie Kutz with a 3.69 era.   Kagan only threw 37 pitches, Kilfoyl 122.

  5. Re:  Pierce

The below is from IT when he was extended in '21.  Latest info afaik.     Seems he would be safe (unless bottom drops) thru '24 and '25.   Key would be if he receives extension in '25.

Pierce, who recently completed the fifth season of his original six-year contract, was extended through the 2026 season. He received a raise from $750,000 per year to $1.2 million per year. In five seasons at Texas, Pierce is 172-94 with two College World Series appearances and two Big 12 regular season titles.

If they had some stud starter they had saved for us I could halfass understand but they used half their fucking bullpen. For us to score 1 run. JFC

A masterful job by their pitching coach.   Only one pitcher faced 9 batters,  1 BB,  5 hits.   When playing a more talented team,  don't let them see the same guy twice.

We need to give aggy Corpus credit along with our failure.

What’s odd is it’s the opposite, Nebraska is sitting 10th in the RPI and Kansas State is sitting 20th. This game would benefit both of them

Nebraska site says cancellation due to cold weather.    They have a point - mid to low 30's at gametime.

I miss the Nebraska series.   We had some great, competitive games at Haymarket Park before their move to the B1G.

Kenny is from the Tim Walton school of coaching. He would rather hope for a 3 run HR than play small ball and manufacture runs. Texas can compete with anyone in the country, but I am a bit concerned that Stewart has cooled off considerably and Reese has come back to earth a bit as well. We are going to need TK and Mac to show up big time this weekend.

Good points.   I share your concern about Stewart.   She did not play Saturday against UCF and only relieved Atwood to catch Simpson in the 5th on Sunday.   Perhaps the rest will help.   Very small sample size,  but Stewart and Atwood are hitting .286 and .222 respectively with 1 HR each in conference play.

Ok St plays Missouri St today at 4:30, ESPN+.    Glad we are off.

  9. Hopefully,  the sweep of OkSt last year at McCombs will lead to confidence and victory in Stillwater.

Went back and looked at the schedule.   Atwood had a game winning single in the 8th in game 1 (1-0) and a game winning 3 run HR in the bottom of the 7th in game 2 (3-2).   Game 3, 5-2.    Mac pitched game 1,  Citlaly game 2,  and Czech game 3.     We will introduce Teagan Kavan this year.    And Mitchell and Stewart.

Kenny G is a good coach and will find a way to pressure our defense,  perhaps with small ball.    That said,  Ok St has hit 44 HRs to our 43.

  10. @Florida St,  tonight, 7PM,  ACC Network

Florida St (18-8, #24RPI) lost 2/3 to Duke (22-2) this past weekend.  No shame,  Duke is playing well.   Like UCLA, at this point  Florida St is not playing like the WCWS team we have seen in the past (team ERA 3.95).    But Lonni Alameda will have them ready in an enthusiastic home environment.

Are there any good college baseball pods? Or do any specifically focused on us that actually cover baseball not just football offseason?

D1 Baseball (not a member) has a Monday weekly chat on the National scene and often mentions Texas and the B12.    If you are on the site early (around 11AM ?) sometimes you can read before it is paywalled.    Or check their twitter to see if available.

afaik,  outside of that have to pick up tidbits from On3 and the paysites.   Not sure if Pierce has a weekly radio interview.
