I dunno, but he's always been one of my favorite posters. Invited me to go riding with him a few years back when I was vacationing in Yellowstone. I think he was in the Pocatello ID area.

Been missing @Braff Zacklin from the basketball and mountain biking discussions for a minute.

I love IPAs but haven't really reached the point of being able to properly distinguish among/articulate the points of different sub-styles. So what's your understanding of what a Midwest IPA is -- more malt, perhaps, or different malt? The AI gives me a superficial and perhaps incorrect summary and I don't feel like talking to it any more. You seem to know your stuff (and not just username checks out and all). I'm trying to get a little further down that road but am not too far yet.
I'm not even sure the photo does the beer justice in the first place. It was in my neighbor's man cave during our Sunday happy hour, a proper midwestern basement on a snowy and ill-lit day. Think I'll go see what Karben⁴ says about it, if anything.
I took at his him saying it looked like shit, and Midwest IPAs are shit, which is a wildly ignorant take of course.
IMO there's no specific kind of IPA/APA that is unique to the Midwest, but there are plenty of Midwest breweries making world class IPAs/APAs. Toppling Goliath, New Glarus, 3 Floyds, Black Stack, Pipeworks, Half Acre. I could go on.

I couldnt recall why I knew that name, so I looked it up.
Thats pretty badass. Will be a young coach.
Allright, I went down a bit of a youtube rabbit hole. This is a video about UNI and Farokhmanesh in that tourney. Cool stroll down memory lane, and Farokhmanesh is wearing shorts that reminded me of just how ridiculously hilarious the baggy shorts look got around that time.
My wife is a UNI alum/former athlete, and that happened a couple years after we graduated college. We were watching at a sports bar in Des Moines, and the whole place went absolutely apeshit. Everyone was united because Iowa fans mostly went to UNI and cheer for them on the side, and the ISU fans hate Kansas.
2 years later we were in Lawrence for an ISU/KU football game, and we were at a dive bar getting Bloody Marys and the bartender goes "did you guys go to Iowa State?" and my wife responds "he did, but I went to Northern Iowa". Bartender looks at her and dead-ass serious goes "I wouldn't mention that to too many people today".
Dude's a Midwest legend, and a lot of UNI fans are crushed that they couldn't get him back to Cedar Falls to coach, but assuming he does well at CSU he's on his way to bigger things".

Regular Virginia too.
I have family in VA Beach and they always go to Harris Teeter’s. Surely I went past Krogers there and just didn’t notice

Wtf is a Kroger? Is that some aggy/coog high thing?
I've only seen them in Indiana, Ohio, and West Virginia, so do what you will with that information.

You can see what you want to see. Find evidence where you want to find it. My history book must read a bit differently than yours. That’s cool. Have a great day!
It sure does.

I'm just quoting you, genius.
I don't know that Elon Musk is a Nazi, but it's much in the same that I don't know he's a man. It sure looks like he's a man, but I've never seen his balls so how can I be sure? Unlike visual evidence of Elon's manhood, I have seen him give a Nazi salute and parrot talking points that very closely resemble Nazi positions. Maybe, maybe it doesn't mean he's a Nazi. But it sure looks like Nazism.

Are you actually saying he is a member of the Nazi party? That he is a Nazi? Come the fuck on
So in order to be a Nazi you have to register with a party?

I've been to both towns a few times, and I just have way more fun in Fort Collins.
My wife and I went out in Boulder on a Saturday night with school in session back in 2019 or so and we were the youngest people everywhere we went. We were like 34 at the time.
Boudler feels more like a place for old wealthy retirees, and Fort Collins feels like an actual college town. Although the view in Boulder is definitely better.

I found this album over the weekend on the apple new Americana playlist and really like it. A little different but I think some of y’all will dig it. A bit of an MJ Lenderman feel.
These guys popped up another place I frequent, and I'm hooked. Definite MJ vibe. Or "chill version of Wednesday". Which is kind of the same thing.

Semis that are governed at 65.1 MPH trying to pass semis governed at 65 MPH across the entire god damn state of Iowa on I-80.

Yes. It’s like don’t make me chase you down for 50 bucks but pay me.
Exactly. And it's worse when you've been friends for 25 years, in each other's weddings, etc. You feel like a prick asking, but I'm anal about never leaving any unfinished financial business.

I hang with a group of 7 families who spend a lot of time together. Eat, vacation, extra curriculars. When we do stuff usually one family pays and everyone else Venmo’s them. There’s always two guys that slow pays. Could be 50.00 or 500.00
When we get together with the guys I grew up with, one wife is always super slow to Venmo things back - if at all. I don't think it's intentional, but it's fucking annoying.

Would rather McCollum, but if this is CDC’s guy I’ll defer.
So I was looking at McCollum’s story deeper, and he has literally based his entire life within a 5.5 hour radius of Storm Lake, Iowa. He’s been biding his time for one of about 5 or 6 jobs in the western Midwest. Kind of a momma’s boy in the most admirable sense.
i hate that he’s going to Iowa, but I respect the hell out of him

Beer 2025: sith_horn drinking more than the rest of us combined

You'll have to excuse me, assuming derision from others is baked into the Midwestern ethos. Part of why we can't take compliments for shit.
Fantasy Factory is great when fresh. It's a little leaner/lighter flavor profile from something like Two Hearted.
Agreed that fairly recently the Midwest was big on those kind of IPAs. That's when I really started getting into them. Surly Furious is in a similar vein.
