that reminded me I had intended on asking the group about this hand from Fri night.
1/2 NL Ive got 800 in front as the SB, BB has about $600.
we are playing on a short handed table, only 6 players, the UTG sets out a straddle, and before the hand is dealt, all 3 NTA get up to go smoke outside.
so we are 3 handed in effect.
me now being FTA, looks down at A7cc. I fully expect the BB to raise because hes really aggressive and is a guy who has played on the "small" streams at The Lodge (like $2k max buyin games). so I just call the $5.
BB immediately makes it $17 as expected. straddle folds, I dont really think about raising, i call.
flop is Kc- 8d -2x rainbow board.
I check intending to float at least 1 bet... but he checks.
7s on the turn
I figure thats good, so I bet out $15. he smooth calls.
turn is the 7h.... yahtzee 3 handed.
since he hasnt played with any strength I want to get something so I bet out $35.
dude doesnt take more than 3 seconds to announce $235...
WHAT?
So in my normal experience in the 1/2 Texas games, a river raise this high is almost never a bluff. Its usually like 90+% a very strong hand... either a boat or the case 7. MAYBE K8 hoping i have a K expecting a chop.
every so often its a pure bluff. and I guess a small percentage of an inexperienced player playing something like KT for perceived max value.- but this guy is a larger game grinder... a bad King blast off doesnt make sense for a decent player
My brain thinks pretty quick on the decision its 3 handed
Theres no real draws that miss that can try a hail mary win, rando K without a broadway card kicker seems to not want to over play this much unless hes trying to kick me off a weaker King chop... while a flopped set would play this hand exactly the same way...
what do you do here?
Like 90% of the time its a call right? and 10% is a laydown just thinking you have to be beat?
Is there ever an option to raise here and either min click or just jam for the roughly $325 hes got behind? and somehow get called by something you still beat?
