  1. Sorry to distract from the Valley political trends and gun control talk, but... https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/01/26/politics/capitol-police-riot-no-confidence/index.html US Capitol Police officers are in preliminary discussions over holding a no-confidence vote targeting department leaders who were working on the day when Donald Trump supporters led an insurrection into the building, according to three people familiar with the discussions. The vote would target acting USCP Chief Yogananda Pittman, who was promoted into the agency's top job following the resignation of Steven Sund after the insurrection. At least four additional chiefs may be targeted as part of any no-confidence vote, the three sources said. News of the discussion comes as Pittman spoke to congressional members during a closed-door briefing Tuesday, where she said the "department failed to meet its own high standards" on January 6, adding that police "knew there was a strong potential for violence and that Congress was the target." One source told CNN that Pittman was the operational chief that day and "never took control of the radio or commanded officers what to do in any way shape or form." One Capitol police source said stewards from the USCP Labor Committee, the union representing rank-and-file officers, visited section roll calls to take the temperature of officers on the potential no-confidence vote. Another source within the department says a no-confidence vote was likely forthcoming for senior leadership. "The rank-and-file of this department has no faith in any of our chiefs, especially the ones in that were here on January 6th," the source told CNN. A Capitol Police spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request from CNN for comment. Union President Gus Papathanasiou told CNN that no vote is underway. "Officers have been calling for a vote of no confidence since January 6th," Papathanasiou said. "At this time we have not initiated a vote of no confidence. Doesn't mean we can't think about it. There's a big difference." Officers have told CNN that they felt abandoned and betrayed by the department's leadership. Prior to her appointment, Pittman had served as head of intelligence operations since October 2019. In that role, Pittman was responsible for the safety and security of the US Capitol, congressional members, congressional staff and Capitol visitors, including detecting any threat and preventing it. On the day of the insurrection, she was second in command of the US Capitol Police force. In her prepared remarks Tuesday, Pittman outlined the department's failure to act on intelligence that pointed to a likelihood of violence. "We knew that militia groups and White supremacists organizations would be attending. We also knew that some of these participants were intending to bring firearms and other weapons to the event. We knew that there was a strong potential for violence and that Congress was the target," she said. The department responded to the threat by canceling days off for some officers and putting civil disturbance teams on standby. The SWAT team was available to wade into the crowd to make arrests, though officers told CNN that was not possible because of how badly officers were outnumbered that day. Officers also described to CNN a hasty attempt to get helmets into the hands of officers before the event, without clear instruction on when to use them and where to store them. Pittman said the department had adopted a new perimeter around the Capitol based on "instructions it received from the House and Senate sergeants-at-arms." But officers have told CNN, and videos indicate, that the bike-rack-type fencing used that day created a danger because it provide no security and can be easily weaponized by violent protesters. "The department prepared in order to meet these challenges, but we did not do enough," she said. Pittman also acknowledged that two pipe bombs and a van with explosives had forced police to divert officers just as the main body of protesters was arriving at the Capitol. Officers told CNN they believe the assault on the Capitol was timed to the bombs being found and was coordinated between insurrectionists on the east and west fronts of the building. The lack of any quick backup left officers stranded in thin lines attempting to keep a crowd of thousands from entering. Brilliant move to promote the officer in charge of operational decision making on the day of the riot.
  2. Maybe I’m missing something, but why does the Chief of the Capitol Police have to ask for permission for how he should secure the Capitol building? Isn’t that literally their mission - to secure the Capitol and the surrounding areas? Why are there separate Sergeant at Arms positions for the House and Senate when they basically have the same mission? What the hell is the Architect of the Capitol and why does that person have any say in security matters?
  3. The cops did not “let them in”. They fought like hell in most cases, one of them died, 20 were hospitalized. They were completely overwhelmed with numbers. It was probably 10,000 vs 500 or 600. It was a massive failure in planning and intelligence. The cops on the ground let the rioters walk through once they knew that the congresspeople were evacuated.
  4. They’re arresting people as fast as they can. It’s gonna keep going on like this for a long time too. Pretty much every dumbass there had their cell phones on and will be identified by network activity. The ones getting arrested now are the particularly stupid ones who live streamed it and/or told other people about what they did. Also it doesn’t help that they don’t believe in masks and so are clearly visible on surveillance.
  5. The problem is that you can basically manage an NFL franchise as poorly as possible and its value still goes up due to the league itself continuing to be massively popular.
  6. Every day it seems more and more like Colorado sent a domestic terrorist to Congress. There is no innocent explanation for the "Speaker has been removed" tweet.
  7. You know it’s bad when people decline the opportunity to interview for an NFL HC position.
  8. The look of sadness and defeat on these clowns faces when they realize they didn’t ignite a revolution and instead will be spending a large portion of the rest of their life in a federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison is so delicious.

  10. At least we won’t be a QB power team anymore. Tom meddle so much it didn’t matter who the OC was.
  11. The betting was ridiculously heavy on Bama in this game. The books just cleaned up.
  12. To hire a guy who has consistently shit the bed in big games, presumably for 8 million dollars a year, and hope he changes from the offensive philosophy we are literally watching right now seems like a bad bet.
  13. Whether the B12 is up or down relative to 2010 isn’t the point. Every single team is trying to score 50 points a game. Offenses like ND that grind it out for a 24-17 victory don’t work here.
  14. Brian Kelly’s slow pro-style offense would be absolutely smoked in the Big 12. Do not want.
  15. I wish Herman would stop being a meat head and give up on the QB power game. You can’t put the most important player on the field at risk like that.
  16. Somehow ND seems like they’re semi-competitive out there but will still end up losing by 31.
  17. There is a 99.9% chance he’s the coach next year. We may as well just accept it. Our best hope is that the coordinators take over more control as time passes. Chris Ash definitely looks like a good hire at this point. The jury is still out on Yurcich.
  18. I was certain this would be his last year and welcomed the idea of having Wiley as the default TE1. Unbelievable.
  19. If I could add one team from the old B12 back it would be colorado.
  20. Makes you wonder why they all want to leave early...
  21. Looks like “the streak” of finishes outside the top 4 in major sports continues on. Some things never change...
  22. Everything about Tom Herman is a total embarrassment. I can’t believe we were excited about this guy.
