  1. Pretty good piece on LA by Keith Morrison.
  2. That’s so funny. We built jumps to ride our bikes over. I snapped my huffy in half doing it, and convinced my parents I needed a diamondback (when they were awesome). It got stolen 4 days after I got it. LA is a serpent. So enticing, and so hellish. I’ve lived here my whole life. I can’t quit her just yet. And probably never will.
  3. I’m just broken. I have it so much better than most. But our community is lost. And that is crushing.
  4. Last I heard there were 7,000+ structures in Altadena destroyed, and over 5,000in the Palisades. It’s incomprehensible. I’m shook.
  5. Right to the gallows. We know two families whose house survived but they were robbed. I was talking to a National Guardsman who wouldn’t let us up to our house who said they were guarding against looters and I told him he has my permission to shoot them in the head. He laughed. I didn’t. Anyone who takes advantage of the most downtrodden should be removed from our society.
  6. I am so damn fortunate to have such good friends. My family is now settled into my dear friend’s parents house in Hancock Park that I grew up hanging in when I was just a boy. They just moved his 93 year old dad out and were starting to prep it for sale, but my dear friend (I was his best man and we’ve been friends for I guess almost 50 years) insisted we move in and his siblings were equally adamant. We don’t have a kitchen as they have it ripped up but who gives a shit. Our animals are settled, we have a place to sleep, and we’re in a great place. We may be weeks before we can go home. And I had another lifelong friend and his wife who we love dearly bring us a bunch of clothes because we have just a few things. We hav e it so much better than those who lost their homes that I feel guilty. But my job is to take care of my family and my friends allowed me to do that. And it’s kinda cool to be back in the hood I used to ride my bike around and see all my friends. I had two other dear friends on this street when I was a kod. Damn our family is exhausted from this.
  7. I’ll probably get torched for this post (bad timing for that comment) but you guys had a great season. No, it didn’t end with a national championship, but that only lands on one of 133 teams. You were one of the very best. Be pissed you lost. I get that. But be proud that you got to the semis. That’s hard to do. Very hard. And you guys are set up for long term success. I wish we had 1/4 of the resources you have. You may very well be here next year. That’s something most of us only dream of. You are positioned to do it.
  8. Exactly. I have a lot of survivors guilt. Why did we get so lucky? But we didn’t get that lucky. Our community is decimated. I’m numb.
  9. They should be fine. The winds are mellow. They’ll contain it to the hills.
  10. This shit is overwhelming for my soul. And I’m a lucky one. What our communities are dealing with is incomprehensible.
  11. Motherfucker the Palsades fire is moving over the hill to the valley. Professionally we have an office building at Ventura blvd. This shit needs to end. i had an angel come down and bless us. One of my lifelong friends (I was his best man) has offered his Hancock Park parents home to my family. His 92 year old father was just moved out to assisted living and they were getting ready to sell it. But we’ll get it for the next couple of weeks while we wait to be let back into our home. It’s a true miracle for us.
  12. Great job by the Texas beast D not cracking after that first drive. Kept the Horns in this. Get a FG before half. BTW I thought the 6 was a ridiculous overreaction to the Rose Bowl so dropped some coin on the Horns. I’m vested too.
  13. Damn that's a serious setup.
  14. Watch out for that confounded bridge.
  15. Someone posted that they are now allowing a one time visit to grab essentials. Will go this afternoon to confirm.
  16. We're in Altadena. Smack in the middle of the devastation. But we were spared.
  17. It's brutal. We just heard two more families we know lost their homes. It's getting to the point where we know more people that lost their homes than didn't.
  18. The National Guard now roaming our streets and have cut all access to our neighborhood, whether on foot or not. We were able to walk in and do cleanup yesterday. No word on when utilities will be restored. Could be weeks. Or longer. Not sure what our plan is.
  19. I have more widespread options to donate, but these are dear friends of ours that lost their home. They were struggling a bit financially before this happened. Their daughter is my daughter’s longest childhood friend. Just one option, I have others for more broad help. <div class="gfm-embed" data-url="https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-rebuild-the-gokgoz-home/widget/large?sharesheet=fundraiser sticky footer&attribution_id=sl:4c081df0-4f0a-40a2-9185-2db25cf013a4"></div><script defer src="https://www.gofundme.com/static/js/embed.js"></script> I’ll figure this out when I get to a computer.
  20. I struggle with the magnitude of what has happened to our community. A neighbor sent me this. We will recover, but it may be a decade or more. MOV_9437.mov
