  1. Reminds me of the Air BNB commercials that are encouraging people to visit El Salvador and Haiti with video of beautiful locations and smiling locals a flute music.  I'd heard El Salvador was getting better than it was but now we have refugees needing to come here because it's unsafe for THEM (I"m sure MS13 would not bother the wealth gringos) and I've never heard anything to suggest that Haiti isn't still a very poor, dangerous place.

Why would you choose to vacation in a place where a wrong turn can literally put your life at risk when there's places like Costa Rica, etc which are just as beautiful and plenty safe.

  2. Great thread.
In about 1993 my hand me down Toyota pickup got stolen and I had to get a car.  I bought a 67 Chevelle (Malibu) convertible that my Dad found up in north Texas for $2500.  Daily drove it for a while but I was dirt poor and didn't have much money to put into it to get it running right.  It was a pain to start (carb issue).  I did a light "restoration" a few years later but it was on a budget still so a lot of issues weren't addressed.  Kept it all these years, just sitting in a garage, collecting dust.  I started a serious restoration 2-3 years ago but took long breaks from working on it.  Finally got at it serious a year or so ago (as serious as you can be with a full time job, kids etc).  So far the car has been gutted, stripped.  Full quarter panels on both side, 2/3 of the trunk flood and full floor pans replaced.  Took the body off the frame about 3 months ago.  Smoothed the fire wall.  Stripped the underside and currently getting ready for epoxy and Raptor Liner on the underside.  Frame is also stripped and I'm going to epoxy and paint with single stage urethane (satin black) this Monday I hope.  Front suspension parts are going to powder coat tomorrow.  New front end rebuild stuff (all Moog and higher quality) and bushings are in a box waiting to be installed.  Dad's coming out for a visit in 2 weeks and hope to get the body back on the frame and put on the doors and fenders/hood to get gaps right before body working the panels.  Motor is a 350 (.040 over) 4 bolt main block with JE pistons, aluminum heads and Lunati hydraulic cam.  Nothing crazy but on paper should be 400ish HP at the crank.  Originally had a powerglide trans, now a TH350.

Considering how long every thing takes, it'll be a while before it's done.  I'd guess a couple of years, but it's generally been an enjoyable project.  will be painting it original "bolero" red.  The interior was originally red but I switch to black when I worked on it in the late 90's.  Since it wasn't driven much the carpet, seats etc are still in great shape so I'm gonna stay with black interior.

Vanity Fair online reports that 27 more women have made harassment claims against Charlie Rose.

I've never liked that guy. Can't say why, but I never liked him.

Same here, prob because his show made watching paint dry looks like a superior alternative.

Had a friend from high school who's older brother would regularly spit loogies on the hamburgers at Wendy's. 1980's - San Antonio - Wurzbach Road location FYI.

That SOB.  I used to live with my girlfriend (now wife) in the apartment complex behind that location I believe.  This was late 90's however.  New crop of loogies providers I suppose.

Sam is correct about the GrillGrate aluminum grates. Don't wast your money

There's "mangrates" (mangrates.com) cast iron.  Looks to be a nice product but I don't know it's worth the $$ and haven't used them.

  6. I've liked it so far.  Love nostalgia stuff though.  It's hard to believe some of the old episodes were like 25 years old.  All things considered the cast looks pretty good.  I can believe how well Rosanne's mom looks on the show.  She looked like a grandma 25 years ago and looks like 10 years older now, not 25 years.

  7. I fucking eat this stuff up with a spoon.  Love MST3K in college and recently found Pluto TV where they have a channel for MST3k and a Channel for Rifftrax.  I think they also showed episodes of "The film Crew."

Watched the handful of episodes on Netflix (old episodes not the reboot) and today found more episodes on Hulu.

It's pretty much all I watch these days other than old sitcoms.

For anyone wondering about Chris Nelson, UT Football went live for a photo shoots for next year, and Chris Nelson was the first person they showed getting videoed/photoed. Seems like he is staying.

When it was announced recently that he finally had surgery on that elbow, I took that as a good sign (ie that he wasn't sandbagging a nothing injury).  I like Nelson a lot.  Dude needs to stay.  This is his best shot at making a case for the pros.

I was going to suggest someone photoshop a picture of Jerri Blank from Comedy Central's "Strangers with Candy," but I see you've already beat me to it.

Wonder if this Candi's got any good memories of a friendly Mexican donkey named Ramon...good times, good times....

What would you do with your life?

We make fun of shitty jobs, a-hole employers, retarded co-workers and so on but if lots of jobs are automated then what will the average schmuck do all day long?  Sure, the funny answers will come piling in and I will laugh at them but people need work.  Work provides self-worth and order.  There are already enough slobs with no jobs breathing up oxygen.  We don't need more.

    QFT.

I'm afraid automation will lead to a larger burden on society as people doing unskilled labor are displaced by automation.  The food industry is already a dog eat dog world and people aren't going to pay $12.00 for a Big Mac extra value meal so McDonalds and pay a guy enough to support his family.  So automation is inevitable.  Small businesses won't have the capital to automate so they will be forced to pay higher wages, charge more and go out of business when people would rather pay $8.00 at McDonalds than $12.00 at McDowells.  That displaced labor force ain't gonna pick vegetables in the field or carry roofing shingles (there's a reason why they are working fast food as a full grown adult - of course their are exceptions).  Next step .... unemployment.  Maybe I'm wrong but who knows.  There is already a glut of college educated people with massive educational debt doing service industry jobs having nothing to do with their degree.

  12. Sucks that this guy got to live a long carefree life (as carefree as you can be knowing that you killed people) but at least he was apprehended in time to suffer some consequences and bring some measure of closure to the family members of his victims.
