  1. So Rolen, who was amazing defensively, and pretty damn good with the bat got 10% of the vote the first year. Go look at the stats, he was way better than Jeter on defense and a similar player on offense (counting numbers favor Jeter, especially hits, but advanced metrics don't). Now they played different positions, and Jeter was a Yankee. Obviously Jeter is a HofFamer, but 10% vs. 1 vote shy of unanimous? It makes no sense.
  2. I'd argue top 20, only because I despise the Yankees, and still liked Donnie baseball.
  3. I've talked to him a lot over the years through different events and channels. He was never once even approaching arrogant or condescending. He didn't apologize for wanting to win, and I think he would overlook qualities in guys that were not the best of people, but he wasn't among them. Guy was as honest, forthcoming and genuine as could be.
  4. That's tempting. How are the playoffs (provided of course we make it...) going to work?
  5. Yep, that contract language that floated around seems pretty straightforward. The power to terminate with cause was all in UTs hands and at their discretion
  6. Mr. Passe's daughter was my next door neighbor growing up. He was a very nice man that always took time out to see me and talk baseball. When the Astros played the extra game vs. the Giants he got me and 3 friends plus my mom tickets. Then Mike Scott threw a freaking no hitter, he brought me up to the booth with the current Astros broadcast team Gene Elston and a new guy named Milo. They gave me all the notes from the game, stacks of paper, and all kinds of Astros stuff. It was a pretty sad day for me when he passed.
  7. Never noticed before, but are they always on 1 year deals? Seems odd you wouldn't want to lock everyone up for at least a few years
  8. A proven at the MLB level young pitcher at that. Hitting catchers that can field is the rarest thing in baseball
  9. Yep, about 10 times. I'm not sure why you thought that was a burn, or needed to be said that way, but alright... And it's exactly that idiotic hypocrisy I'm talking about. All of those guys are shown, and it's pathetic and stupid to not have them be inducted as what they are, Hall of Famers
  10. The more we wait, the more interesting signing Conforto and Brantley (later if he's healthy) seems to make sense
  11. And if Rose had been "eligible" (he was and still is) he would have been a first ballot with maybe 1-10 at most voters abstaining, because voters are idiots. You are either a hall of famer or you aren't. Waiting a year is the stupidest thing ever. Same with the six pieces of shit that didn't vote Nolan Ryan in on the first ballot. The Hall of Fame isn't the "Hall of greatest ever", it's the Hall of FAME. If you can't tell the story of baseball without a player, they belong in. You can't tell the story of baseball without Rose. Same goes for Clemens and Bonds. Can't stand Rose, personally love that he's out. Doesn't change that he belongs in by his on field merits.
  12. Would I rather have HGH Pujols or Hustle Rose? 100% I'd rather have Pujols despite hating him too. But the numbers are the numbers. Pujols is better, doesn't stop what you were saying being incorrect. You said he wasn't in the conversation of the greatest hitters ever. That's kind of absurd and been proven to be incorrect via all the stats. If you had said he couldn't be considered among the greatest power hitters, you'd absolutely be correct. You'd be correct if you said that about Tony Gwynn too. But if you said he wasn't among the greatest hitters ever, thems would be fighting words. Same goes for Rose, except I hate him, so no fight would be needed haha
  13. Look, I hate Rose and hope he rots outside the hall as much as anyone I know. But his numbers undoubtedly warrant him as a top 30 hitter all time. Yes he chased records, so did Biggio, who I love and absolutely is underrated in the All Time 2B pantheon. By pretty much every HofF hitting algorithm he's at the top. 5th all time LF in JAWS, 15th in the Hall of Fame Monitor, 19th in Black ink and 35th in Grey ink. Even if we go with Grey Ink, top 35 is in the "same breadth" as the greatest hitters ever Pujols is ranked slightly higher in some and slightly lower in others but they are basically around the same level in these Monitors.
  14. If plagiarizing was such a big deal, 90% of the stuff spewed on Shaggy sports boards would be disallowed.
  15. He's 56 and does a very solid job, which is what you want out of that role. Blum isn't fine, he's fantastic. He's every bit as good as Deshaies was, which is a huge compliment.
  16. Astros did it this year with 12.5MM/yr to Grienke still owed for the next 3-4 years
  17. I don't understand at all what the A's were doing with Sean Murphy. They basically traded him for a guy with no control (on his pitches) and two mid level prospects. Just weird
  18. It wasn't: 3/30 is chump change for him
  19. Last one was in 1998 the year of the franchise inception

    Facing Nolan

My boys middle names are Nolan and Ryan. Loved the documentary and was lucky I got to introduce my boys to him last year. Still hurts that he's not part of the Astros front office anymore. Loved seeing Nolan back in Houston
  21. Erroneous, erroneous on all counts. The Alt 2 is our best current uniform and a perfect homage.
  22. They canceled Elton John tickets in early October. Weren't doing refunds until 11/18
  23. Please God no. He's failed everywhere he's been. And he's one of the most overrated Astros of all time. He's not a bad guy or anything, but he has zero skillsets that would make him a good GM.
  24. Considered one of the nicest guys in the entire league by pretty much all accounts. Dude is so nice he once apologized to Angel Hernandez despite the egregious call Angel made against him, Rizzo felt he should have been above it. He's also a cancer survivor and spends tons of time with kids and adults suffering through it.
