  1. Ole Miss was the #5 seed (Tulane was #1), but it will was still BS… UT had a better record and ranked higher in the polls.
  2. That was 2003. when Augie passed Coach Gus in all-time wins.
  3. Haters will say it’s fake… no way the white sox were ever in the World Series

  5. Yeah, outside of the first 6 years of the franchise, the Luhnow rebuild (and Covid/strike shortened years) we’ve only had 2 seasons of 70 or fewer wins. 1975 and 1991. I’m still sticking with my preseason prediction of 85. looking back at that ‘91 team, it’s too bad that lineup wasn’t a few more years developed. Biggio 25 Bagwell 23 (ROY) Caminiti 28 Gonzalez 23 Finley 26 was a solid core. the pitching on the other hand (one starter with an ERA under 3.69 (Harnisch at 2.70) playing in the dome, was not
  6. That’s only because Art Howe had a quick hook on Jim Clancy in that game at Riverfront in the late 80s and pulled him after 7 batters in the first (all scored) before Bob Forsch came in and matched him with 7 of his own. but seriously, that is an amazing stat . The fact it happened in the 10th makes it even moreso
  7. Yeah, from 83-85, Horns went 66-14, 60-14 and 64-14
  8. Using Hader in an 8 run game ensures we’ll have 6 consecutive save situations on the upcoming homestand
  9. So are the brewers
  10. “If they don’t meet a two-thirds majority, the ballots are burned with straw and chemical additives, creating a black smoke that rises from a chimney erected in a corner of the chapel signaling a pope has not been chosen.” “Once the two-thirds majority is met, a new pope has been elected. The ballots are burned with dry straw and chemical additives to make white smoke rise from the chapel’s chimney.” https://www.wsj.com/world/europe/conclave-pope-cardinals-explained-e1f76150?st=VzaCg6&reflink=article_copyURL_share
  11. Except it is Real-Life Conclave Rivals Drama of Movie Version Infighting, smear campaigns, papal letters from beyond the grave: The conclave is giving the film a run for its money. https://www.wsj.com/world/europe/papal-conclave-movie-cardinals-parolin-tagle-93fff546?st=ihcnMN&reflink=article_copyURL_share For those not following, one of the front runners produced two letters from Francis stating that the cardinal sentenced to 5 yrs in prison for embezzlement (and who decided he still had the right vote for the next pope) shouldn’t be allowed in the proceedings. there’s also this which certainly belongs in the “deleted scenes” category: The Italian daily Corriere della Sera reported that one cardinal staying in the Vatican’s guesthouse, the Domus Sanctae Marthae, didn’t realize that the tiny liquor bottles in his room’s minibar weren’t free. After finishing all of the bottles with a group of colleagues, he found them on his bill. “He was a bit upset,” the daily reported.
  12. 8 batters faced. 26 pitches, 15 strikes (0 swinging). 0 outs recorded. Thats impressive.
  13. The great Texas State Bobcat Kyle Finnegan got his 100th career save and already has 12 saves (Nats have 17 wins) on the year.

    2025 ACL

Weekend 1 3-day already sold out yeah I’m old
  15. My gf and I looked at each other after the band walked off after the main set and both said “that’s it?” (the set was maybe 50-55 minutes at that point), before I looked up the previous night’s setlist and saw the encore was close to as along as the main set. Overall glad I went but this show was nowhere near what I saw at the Moody Center a couple of years ago which absolutely blew me away and was the reason I decided to buy tickets last minute to this one. I had a feeling we were in trouble when, about halfway through the main set, the sound guy got as much stage time as Jack and finally ended up replacing the entire pedalboard (at one point I leaned over and said “I think we’re witnessing a guy getting fired tonight.”). I’m curious if playing keys on Apple Blossom was pre-planned or impromptu due to whatever other issues they were having. And yeah, 80% dudes = long ass men’s room lines.
  16. Whoa… how very un-Chandler of Chandler
  17. I did a trip similar to this a few years ago in April, albeit without kids (high on my list to get my 12 and 10 yo out there). We went in the reverse order, but here was our itinerary for what it’s worth…if Big Bend is the main draw and the rest is ancillary you’ll want to nix a lot of this. While High Plains’ post above is great, you’ll have to pick and choose. All of his suggestions are great, but would take a lot longer than what you have to properly experience. Day 1: Austin to Fort Davis; stayed in an Airbnb above the drugstore/restaurant; Late night star party at McDonald’s Observatory. Day 2: AM Fort David National Historic Site and Davis Mountains State Park hike; There are some pretty easy hikes you can do in Davis Mountains but in June, you’ll want to start early and hit the historic site after. It was interesting but not a must do. I think there would be enough to keep your girls interested and it not be a complete bore (regardless, shouldn’t take more than an hour or 2). I seem to recall they had several “walk in their shoes” exhibits that did a good job showing what life was like on the West Texas frontier in the late 1800s depending on your circumstance in life (officer, officer’s wife, medic, etc). PM we drove to Marfa, checked out whatever shops were open, found a bite to eat, and stayed the night there. Day 3: Drove from Marfa to Terlingua via US 67 to Presidio and SH 170/River Road. Your girls may not fully appreciate it but highly recommend that route for the scenery and the “is this really Texas? In the middle of a desert?” vibes. We stopped and did the Closed Canyon Trail in BBRSP which the girls might love (fair amount of scrambling from what I recall). After that drove in to BBNP and hiked Saint Elena Canyon (started the hike around 5, which probably won’t be a good idea in June, but as stated above, the canyon walls should provide some decent shade. Day 4: Up early to hike Balanced Rock. Headed back home via 385/Marathon. There is a Fossil Discovery Exhibit on your way out of the park that, after looking at pictures online, I wish we had stopped to check out. Again, the actual Big Bend NP part of this trip was relatively small. There was a fire that had just started on the South Rim when we were there and they closed the Chisos Basin so I think we had to scramble to make alternative plans. Coming in to Big Bend NP and ending in Fort Davis, you might do well to: Thu PM: hit Big Bend NP through Marathon, check out the Fossil Discovery Exhibit, and Balanced Rock (the two are super close as the crow flies, but unfortunately a 45 minute drive (then again, so is everything in that part of the world). Friday: Chisos Basin (Lost Mine or Window View Trail) and Santa Elena Canyon. Rio Grande Village (Rio Grande Village Nature Trail) is great for sunset but on the opposite end of the park and an hour drive back to Terlingua. Saturday: Terlingua to Marfa/Fort Davis via River Road. Stop for morning hike at Closed Canyon in BBRSP. Drive on to Marfa. Stop for lunch at Bordo’s (closes at 3). Let the wife and girls toodle around whatever shops may be open while you head to Marfa Spirit Co. Head on to Fort Davis and get settled in to your AirBNB/rest before star party. Sunday: I’m usually one to pack up, grab a light breakfast and hit the road, but if ya’ll are on a more leisurely pace, this would be the time to check out Balmorhea State Park on your way home. Or if not into swimming, check out Fort Davis National Historic Site. And if absolutely jonesing for more hiking, a couple of options: 1) find a short hike in Davis Mountains State Park, or 2) head home through Alpine and do the short hike up to the Sul Ross Desk behind the Sul Ross State University campus.
  18. Not sure what’s more impressive Marlins not hitting one in 6.5 years, or Yankees, A’s, Twins never hitting one in 24 years of interleague play.
  19. I would have loved for Longhorn pitching to have given up 10 solo shots this weekend…
  20. Abbott Elementary is excellent as was the original:
