Well, then, I don't agree with that. We paid enough to keep Rick Barnes when NC State, Indiana, and especially Kentucky came sniffing around, we renovated the Erwin Center while he was here, and we built the Cooley Pavilion, which is as good a practice facility as a college player is going to get.

The Erwin Center sucked, but it's only 40 42 years old this year. It's unusual for college basketball programs to build new arenas at all, but certainly more frequently than that, so if that is your standard for measuring whether we're spending on basketball, I don't think it's a fair one.

All valid points, especially considering my poorly worded argument.  My comment about money being spent was directed the Erwin Center, which has been a horrible venue for basketball, even after the renovations.  For that reason, I don't feel that our facilities have been a strong selling point for coaches considering the job.

When I say "lack of expectations" I mean in comparison to the pay and to whatever other schools may be courting Coach X. For example we all know that Shaka turned down UCLA. Compare the expectations there and here. They haven't been consistently good-great since Wooden and they still expect to be UK or Duke. Here if you make the tourney every year and make a run 1/3 years you can't get fired. If you make the final four you're a legend. If you actually do win a title you're a certified demigod. That's a pretty sweet deal compared to the other schools that Coach X would be considering.

That is a sweet deal, but again, I don't want a coach who sees it that way.  Wanting to go somewhere because you will be celebrated for doing less isn't a quality that we should value.

when you say until "recently", what time frame are you referring to?

Recently = whenever it was that it was officially decided to build a new arena to replace FEC.

Look i've made the same case  over and over  for where the Texas job stands in terms of allure and it's pretty much unarguable that it's one of the top jobs in the country. From the pay, to the (lack of) pressure and expectations, to the city, to the University, to the facilities, to the fact that Texas is the most fertile basketball recruiting ground in the country, to our recent success and pedigree as a program, we have it all. It's an extremely desirable job that any coach who might be looking to change scenery would have to seriously consider. It's a great job with a metric shit ton of upside, and very very little risk so long as you are a better coach than the likes of Shaka, Drew, and Weber. It's a dream job for a lot of people, and the posters/blog writers who continue to insist that the Texas job is just "meh", and that we can't compete with any school who got good at basketball before Texas did have *clear* agendas and are totally incapable of being objective about anything UT related. It's a dynamite job that would attract the attention of essentially every available coach out there.

You of all people should know that few things are inarguable, and this isn't one of them.  We see the allure, but that does not mean that fans and coaches of other programs do, at least not to the same extent.  We have more money than most, but until recently, have not shown any interest in putting much of it into the basketball program or facilities.  I also think you are over selling the lack of pressure and expectations.  If that were truly the case, we would likely still have Barnes, and this thread would not exist, or it would at least have fewer pages.  Also, fan apathy is not a positive.  Maybe some coaches will see it as a challenge in a "I will make the fans show up" way, but most successful coaches want to go where the fans care.  Do we really want a coach who wants to be here because the expectations are low?  As far as I can tell, that's what we have now.

  5. 3 fucking assists.   You can say this, Shaka's offensive philosophy is certainly offensive.

Those hoping for a loss to TCU need to just stop.  It is not going to make a difference on whether Shaka is fired after this season.  CDC is not stupid.  He knows that the basketball program is underachieving, and that the fan impatience grows with each bed-shitting loss.  One game against TCU is not going to change that.  It will simply come down to whether CDC can identify the replacement he wants, and convince him to coach here.  If he can't, Shaka will get another year, regardless.  There is no point in replacing someone we don't want with someone else we don't want.  If CDC can find an ideal replacement, then Shaka better go on a deep tourney run.

Recs on who/where to rent bikes?

As noted, B Cycles are everywhere along the extended Riverwalk, and they should be perfectly adequate for exploring the missions.  Here's everything you need to know.

If you want something that isn't the bicycle equivalent of driving a truck, Bike World has a rental place at the Pearl, though that's the opposite direction from the missions, and you do not want to try to ride on the Riverwalk through downtown.

Depending on how active you and kids are, there is an option to ride bikes down the river from downtown to all the missions. If you go to all of them it’s a long way, like 25 miles round trip, but you can turn back whenever. Just bring water.

15 not 25.  Also, you can rent bikes.

  8. I was worried for Eric as well during the initial comments at the event, but after hearing what was said at tribal, I knew it was going to be Adrienne.  I'm pulling for Eric, but would be fine with Michele or Kelsey, as long as they earn it.  Still patiently waiting for Sara to fuck up enough to go home.

  9. Unless you want to spend multiple days at Fiesta Texas, I would suck it up and stay on or near the Riverwalk.  There is always something to see or do within walking distance, and if you stay elsewhere, you are going to spend more of your spring break watching your kids play video games in your room, supervising them at the hotel pool, driving in search of fun shit, while being nagged constantly to go to Fiesta Texas every day of your trip.

Don't see one or two of the other missions, see them all.  Take a water taxi to the Pearl, and walk the short distance to the Witte museum and SA zoo.  Say what you will about the Menger, but what kid wouldn't want to stay in a haunted hotel across the street from the Alamo?

I would rather stay closer to all the action and do a day trip or two to Fiesta Texas and/or Sea World, but maybe that's just me.  If you stay near Fiesta Texas, the chances of you getting out of town after spending only one day there are zero.  Is that worth any hotel savings?

  10. Hardie board is expensive, but depending on how long you intend to be in the house, may be worth it to you.  I had my house done in December and am glad I did.  The installer matters.  Make sure you get multiple bids.  I ended up spending half as much as one high pressure sales outfit wanted to charge me with their "today only" deal.  Also, it's a shitty time to replace.  Prices on all siding options are still high due to last hurricane season.  I was able to place my order just before the price hike.  An honest contractor will tell you this.  People will laugh, but there are some.  I can recommend someone for the Austin area, but have none for elsewhere.

Man sucks Chelsea is already out of reach of the top 4. And sucks there isnt a back door into the Champions League.

Yeah.  If only there were another way, like by winning the Europa League or something.

justin was the only one with an asian background and he gone.  sad to see him go.  i was certain that adrienne and sarah were among the weakest chefs for most of this season.  their timing has been impeccable on coming through right at the time they needed to.

Yep.  Justin would have been at home in Macao.  Adrienne and Sara have actually been heading in opposite directions.  Adrienne was consistently decent for most of the season, but has slumped the past couple of weeks, while Sara has stepped up her game, winning or being up for the Elimination Challenge win in 4 of the last 5 weeks.  I'm hoping it is just a case of getting challenges that suit her, and that she will revert to early season form in China.

Based on my rudimentary scoring system, Eric is the odds on favorite.  Adrienne is the only remaining chef without a an Elimination Challenge win, though Sara just won her first.  Eric is the only chef who has never been considered for elimination.  And of course, Michelle is the only one who has been eliminated.

    Adrienne         4          0           1         -4       0         1
    Eric                  5          3           1          0       0         9

    Michelle          1          1           1         -3      -1        -1
    Sara                 5          1           2         -4       0         4

This pretty much sums it up for me, though if I could add a fourth cookie, it would be the Oatmeal Cranberry Orange cookies from Central Market.

For mass produced national brands, I enjoy the following:

    Original Chips Ahoy - frozen

Girl Scout Thin Mints - frozen

    Pepperidge Farms Milano
