  1. Wordle 975 3/6 ⬛⬛⬛⬛🟩 🟨⬛🟩🟨⬛ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Connections Puzzle #253 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟩🟩🟦🟩 🟦🟩🟦🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟦 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟦🟦🟦🟦 Purple seemed easier to me too, obviously.
  2. Loved it as usual, but particularly loved the fact that you guys (on a baseball podcast) had more insightful commentary on the Shanahan coin toss decision than people who actually cover the NFL.
  3. Not pursuing Reaves as a restricted free agent was infuriating and telling. Yes he’s a Sooner and OU sucks, and yes we’re probably like 5-16 even with him, but there was no reason to not pursue that guy and at least make the Lakers overpay. The roster is sorely in need of veteran savvy and leadership and he was there for the taking. He’s not drastically outside of the current group in terms of age, either. That move made me realize that the franchise is happy to rest on its laurels, rake in the cash of the thousands of new season ticket holders, and keep selling the bs line of “well we weren’t gonna win a title this year anyway, we need to see what we have.” I guess they’re content with throwing away a healthy Wemby year and getting him accustomed to losing. Seems like a great idea.
  4. Man, I really thought the night shift would get everything figured out for us.
  5. The Baseline Bums were pouring beer on opponents coming out of the HemisFair tunnel long before Pop showed up.
  6. Well that and for the 15 extra wins he provides, according to Correa. He can sign with the Braves and they’ll push 120 Ws.
  7. Dusty fucked up the Opening Day lineup this year, so not having to bitch until Game 2 would be an improvement.
  8. Dusty Baker partially blames 'bloggers and tweeters' for retirement: 'Tired of the scrutiny' If he also meant to include “message board posters”, I’m proud to have done my part.
  9. They’ve done it the last couple of years. Last year we had two in a row in Minnesota and the Lakers played twice in a row in SA around Thanksgiving. IIRC it’s related to the league’s efforts to making the schedule more player-friendly, fewer back-to-backs, etc.
  10. Yep. Just slightly outperformed Mr. Clutch Kyle Tucker in this series.
  11. Relax everyone. We’re Houston. Dubon told us.
  12. Wasn’t able to follow much yesterday at all. Was there some split or other high-level analysis that explained Dubon over McCormick (in the starting lineup), or was it just garden-variety Dusty dipshittery? i mean, i know what Occam’s Razor would suggest, but figured I’d ask anyway.
  13. Sure, but for the millionth time, he plays because of how masterfully he handles the pitching staff. And he kept the Rangers to only six runs in those final two innings.
  14. I’m not sure about that doom-and-gloom from Roy. Legacy media will bend over backwards to make Republicans look good if they end up with any sort of power-sharing deal. ”In arriving at this historic compromise, Republicans listened to the silent majority of Americans who had grown tired of extreme partisanship and worsening gridlock. Recognizing the immediate need to address spiraling conflicts overseas and looming budgetary issues at home, the GOP extended an olive branch to work with Democrats to make Congress function again. While the Democrats spent their years in the majority jamming through massive legislation like the ACA and IRA strictly with party-line votes, Republicans are showing there’s another way to get things done in Washington…”
  15. Like failing to score when we had 1st & goal from the 1 against OU. Enduring that twice in the span of 10 days or so is… something.
  16. Surly thread to Maldonado/Baker: fuck you ! Am I doing this right?
  17. Maldy’s worth 15 wins in the ALCS alone.
  18. With all due reverence to the baseball gods, and with the knowledge that we may not even want it, who would get home-field in an Astros-Phillies or Rangers-Phillies WS? All three finished 90-72. if it’s just head-to-head, I guess Philly gets it over us but not over Texas. Philly beat us 2 out of 3 but Texas swept them to start the year. Sorry if already discussed…
  19. And even though everyone knows this, it’s worth repeating: a good defensive catcher who can also hit is one of the most valuable commodities in baseball. And one the Astros’ franchise hasn’t had since… ever? I guess early Biggio? So of course it makes sense to cede that advantage as often as possible.
