  1. Iran appears, like Israel to have zero interest in discussing a cease fire. Neither side of that surprises me even a little.

    Spoiler

DUBAI - Iran has told mediators Qatar and Oman that it is not open to negotiating a ceasefire while it is under Israeli attack, an official briefed on the communications told Reuters on Sunday, as the two foes launched fresh attacks and raised fears of a wider conflict.

"The Iranians informed Qatari and Omani mediators that they will only pursue serious negotiations once Iran has completed its response to the Israeli pre-emptive strikes," said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the conflict.

Iran has vowed to "open the gates of hell" in retaliation in what has emerged as the biggest ever confrontation between the longstanding enemies.

The official told Reuters media reports that Iran appealed to Oman and Qatar to engage the U.S. to broker a ceasefire and renew nuclear talks were inaccurate.

Yes, I too appreciate a perfect world, but I'll settle for a happy medium.

Respect and court pussy. It’s survival of the fittest.

Your son is hanging out with a pack of dorks (which is probably helping him by not listening to his father).

Treat women like humans, approach them as humans, be kind, ask questions and listen.

Believe in yourself and be respectful.

When the models of "teach your sons how to pursue women" are "treat women like subhuman bitches, and if they don't bow to your will, call them bitches," that ain't good.

When I talk to young women we hire, and they all relate the same story -- getting hit on at the gym, and politely turning a guy down, and he says "whatever, you're fat and ugly anyway."  Seriously, when I was hearing that story for the 4th time, it was just fucking sad.

Trust me, I got shot down plenty back in the day (gotta swing the bat if you want to hit the ball).  When I got shot down, I just moved on.  Said stuff like "alright, well enjoy your workout," or "well y'all enjoy your evening," and that's that.  Toxic fucking loserdom from this new crowd, man.

That happens to men as well. Don't make this a purely misogynistic issue because it fucking isn't. That's a progressive mindset looking at a complex problem hoping for a simple answer. There are lots of factors involved.

Yes and no.  It is perhaps overstated in terms of absolute numbers, but it is a real problem, with real numbers.

I see a shitload of my son's peers, and man....they ain't in a good place.  I've got a lot more thoughts on this to share later.  But we are indeed failing our young men in many ways.

It is NOT just men, its both sides of the coin. Here is a tad dated article talking about the women's side.

UPenn Article on Gen Z women

    Spoiler

There’s a pervasive shame that straight Gen Z women feel about being attracted to men, says Fiester. “The principal issue that we’re seeing among young, straight people right now, and especially straight women, is that they hate being straight because of the apparent hopelessness of finding romantic, exclusive, and committed relationships amid 2023 hook up culture,” she says. “An example of this would be like, ‘Oh, I wish I was gay,’ or, ‘I hate that I’m attracted to men,’ or ‘It would be so much easier to be lesbians.’”

This concept is heteropessimism, a term coined in a 2019 essay for”The New Inquiry” by Asa Seresin, a doctoral candidate in the English department at Penn. Seresin defines heteropessimism as “performative disaffiliations with heterosexuality, usually expressed in the form of regret, embarrassment, or hopelessness about straight experience.”

Even though these statements are expressed as cynical jokes, there’s a performative element, Seresin says. “It’s almost taboo, from what I’ve seen both online and in my real life, to express straightforward desire for men that doesn’t have the caveat of being like, ‘Men are trash,’ or, ‘I kind of hate men.’”

Then its the broader issues related partly to social media and other issues.

    Spoiler

Gen Z's loneliness woes could have something to do with weakening social connections. As BI previously reported, Gen Zers are coming up against a fringe friend crisis: They're lacking wider connections and social networks that were more easily accessible to prior generations. At the same time, community-building groups like unions and religious institutions are fading away, as are third spaces — places that aren't work or home, but instead centered on congregating and socializing.

Business Insider link on Pew Research

It's a myriad of factors across a very broad range of the Gen Z, but to be clear it isn't limited to them either.

People don't even meet new people in bars anymore, forget men picking up a woman in a bar. They don't have the social groups either. How many Gen Z folks are putting up tailgates or traveling for Longhorn games without their parents while in their 20s?  Thats just one example relevant to this board. Lots of social and psychological items related to the issue.

  9. WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump vetoed an Israeli plan in recent days to kill Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, two U.S. officials told Reuters on Sunday.

    Spoiler

They said the Israelis reported that they had an opportunity to kill the top Iranian leader, but Trump waved them off of the plan.

The officials would not say whether Trump himself delivered the message. But Trump has been in frequent communications with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

When asked about Reuters report, Netanyahu, in an interview on Sunday with Fox News Channel's "Special Report With Bret Baier," said: "There's so many false reports of conversations that never happened, and I'm not going to get into that."

"But I can tell you, I think that we do what we need to do, we'll do what we need to do. And I think the United States knows what is good for the United States," Netanyahu said.

Trump has been holding out hope for a resumption of U.S.-Iranian negotiations over Tehran's nuclear program. Talks that had been scheduled for Sunday in Oman were canceled as a result of the strikes.

Trump told Reuters on Friday that "we knew everything" about the Israeli strikes.

Yeah, I kind of have to guess that this gives Trump some kind of cover for joining the op.  Something like "I didn't start this and didn't want it to start, but once it happened  . . . ."

Yeah, that and it ties to his ongoing "We need this war to end" talking point that he's used both with Ukraine and now Israel/Iran.

Israel continues to strike targets in Iran. What's surprising is that we still see no evidence that Iran's air defense has offered any resistance. It is especially surprising since the initial strikes (and presumably the follow ups) didn't rely heavily on stand off munitions.

There was an article in Reuters about it but my search skills suck so here is another source which I can't vouch for on Israel but appears solid and legit:

    New wave of Israeli airstrikes

In the hours following the attack on Israel, Israeli fighters once again struck targets in Iran. The IDF says Israeli fighters “attacked dozens of targets in Tehran,” claiming it has eliminated all air defenses and achieved full freedom of operation in Tehran’s airspace.

Again, I happened upon this page, but it has a lot of references and appears to be aviation oriented. It lines up with what I read on Reuters. I'll dig more to see if I can find the article from Reuters but in the mean time.

Bucky McMillan is showing fans that he's NCAA Tournament-minded with the news that came down today of his scheduling a series against the Florida State Seminoles. Though FSU has had some rough patches, they're still a premier name that has put several big time players into the NBA over the last few years, such as Jonathan Isaac, Scottie Barnes, and Terance Mann.

A perennial complaint against Buzz Williams during his time in College Station was a lack of premier non-conference games. This lessened quite a bit by Buzz's last two years, but the poor strength of schedule for the Aggies was always an albatross when it came time to compare resumes.

This is a step in the right direction on that front for the Ags. This game will take place on Black Friday, according to a report by Jon Rothstein, which will no doubt put it only hours before the Aggies' football game against Texas later that day.

Texas A&M basketball schedules series against Florida State Seminoles
FSU finished out last year ranked 90th in the NET— so if that's where they are come next year, it should be a game that will look good as a win for the Aggies should that be the outcome, but not too terrible of a loss for a tournament team if things go the other way.

Of course, that's assuming that "tournament team" is the realistic goal to which this squad is aspiring. With the way that McMillan has put the personnel together here, this could be a team that challenges for a dark-horse conference championship run.

That's far off, and we still more than anything need to see how the team gels. As of right now, though, they will have an early-season spot on their schedule to impress fans, who will no doubt be waiting around for the final regular-season football game of the year.

They haven't made the Tournament since 2021.

Yeah, but they won the Basket all National Championship in 2020, or so said the Florida state senate!!! I mean they didn’t win a single game in the non-existent tournament but, thats a power house right there with there 1 final 4 appearance and 3 ACC championships.

It could be, I suppose, but I'm of the opinion that Israel sees what's going on in the global space right now as an opportunity. With Ukraine making progress on Russia and the US now leaning their support that direction indirectly weakens Iran. China while currently "friendly" with Russia  certainly isn't a friend. The US has a bully POTUS who cares about 3 things, power, money and his legacy. There is a potential for our POTUS to help Ukraine defeat Russia AND potentially help Israel take down a caliphate regime on the precipice of Nuclear power.

I'm happy to be educated by those more knowledgeable than me, but I can't think of a better time in this generational conflict with Iran than right now for Israel to finally take down Iran. It would be a massive feather in the cap of both current leaders in the US and Israel who love that kind of shit and so do their supporters.

Edit - Personally, I would be shocked if Israel is not all in on this round with Iran. I am fully convinced they are at the no quarter given point with this conflict.

I don't know what I don't know, and that's most of it. So I admit my own ignorance and I'm reading the tea leaves at a simplistic level. I'm happy to be educated if there is something I'm missing, its truly why I join these conversations. I enjoy the thoughts and input from others, both those who agree and disagree if they provide sound logic to their reasoning.

Trump? I thought the subject was Israel. Either way, your logic is ridiculously flawed. You've been drinking all day right? NTTAWWT. You should bail from this conversation, which you also should have never started.

Perhaps we should first discuss the ridiculous number of wildass assumptions you've made - about the situation at-hand, about Israel, and about its relationship with the US government.

What about Israel's recent behavior leads you to believe they've thought through all possible scenarios? What about the current existing US government leads you to believe they want to involve themselves directly into a problem that from all appearances does not seem to be one that can be won from the air -- as was Yemen, where the foolish US involvement lasted all of 2 weeks before the US tucked tail. What about this situation leads you to believe it can be won from the air? What about it leads you to believe there's any winning at all?

Why do you think a bully would have "secured backing of the biggest bully prior to throwing the first punch"?? I mean seriously, what the fuck? Is that what bullys do?  I'm seriously flummoxed about your bully insights, particularly where the bully is all-knowing and understands how the cards are going to be dealt and wraps up all the necessary allies and commitments even before the fight has begun. That's some theory you have. I don't even want to get into what Trump may or may not do because he's seriously unstable and has no idea himself.

If you'd like to have a conversation or discussion I'm happy to do so. Feel free to provide input on specific points. Provide some perspectives on why you disagree with my takes. Not just shit on my takes which I've openly admitted are simplistic. Further, I've also admitted I'm happy to read other perspectives, ideas and information as I admit my own ignorance.

If you want a juvenile shit talking partner, I'm afraid you'll have to look elsewhere.

LOL do you think this is a playground fight or something? Seriously what are you on about?

If you don't think psychological make up of individual leaders plays a part in how they make decisions, we've nothing further to discuss.

Particularly, if you don't understand nor acknowledge that one of Trumps core characteristic is bully tactics.

Happy to discuss any points or thoughts but I'm not interested in juvenile shit talking.
