Never heard of it.
Seriously? I'm really not trying to be a Surly ass. You've never heard of Crown and Anchor?
Did you attend UT? Really, Crown was among the best known places.

Upon my return to Austin after a 10 year hiatus in Chicago and prior to my re-departure, I loved this place:
(Think it is still open)

Quack N' Bushes I believe now called Quacks bakery

Some good memories, and some not so good, in those pics. A piece of me died when I went back to the drag years later and saw that the Showdown had closed.
Also spent a lot of time, money, and liver and brain cells at Posse East (which was called "The Beach" when I first showed up on the 40) and the bar next door, whose name escapes me at the moment. Or maybe the bar next door was called the Posse East.
Poss East also had very solid burgers. That was over by the Engineering buildings.

Taco Shack was where I first learned about breakfast tacos. I feel like it was called Taco Wars back then. 99 cent tacos.
One favor
Can we please please please not turn this into a "I miss old Austin thread?"
I would love to keep this about Austin today... Austin in the present tense.
Not, "I miss going to the Black Cat... waaaaah"
There are other "I miss Old Austin threads" scattered through surly
I'm with you hence why I tried to balance it with places still open.

Is texadelphia still a thing?
There is one in Dallas (off lovers and upper Greenville) and pretty sure 1 still in Austin and Houston.

I have an idea! Why don't we leave both the preemptive thread-shitting and the reactionary thread-shitting to the doomsayer threads like ___ what the f is wrong with you and the great enshittification thread, and leave this one positive, as it was designed and intended?
I'll go again--
I grew up going here as a kid in the 70s/80s, and my kids have grown up going here as well. And it really hasn't changed all that much, aside from 1/2 of it becoming an antique mall...
Well, that and vintage clothing stores. 😉 So as to keep the positive going:

I said in the shit that makes you surly thread that it pisses me off when people use “how come” instead of “why” because it sounds fucking stupid and I’ve decided it’s a clear sign of low intelligence.
Honestly, I am very confident that's a specific choice by TC to "relate" to his target market.

9mm, 556, 270, 380.
This is all any civilized man needs. Few thousand of the first two, and a few hundred of the latter. Any given moment. And if you want to go nuts, stock the first two until you run out of space.
380, as in 9mm kurtz or 308? I'd add 300 blackout to that list too. In fact, aside from ammo price, I'd be okay not having 556 personally.
As for fun, I love my lever in 38/357 and if you get a Ruger Vacaro you can run both with fairly inexpensive 38.
I have also think it required to add 22 ans 12 g.
Rabbit hole, I found it.
I'll see myself out.

Bookmarking this, because I'm certain that at least 75% of it will turn out to be an accurate prediction of our shittacular future.
Lol, the future???

There are some outfits that offer it as their only business that I would trust. But just some guy? Nah not for me.
Well, one may consider something like Buffalo Bore a "hand load" or custom load. While it's not factory ammo, that's an ammo I trust so I guess in that case I make exceptions to my rule if you will.

No big deal. Ags are going with the power football ground pound slow game.
I'm not a "coach" or nearly as wise as many on Surly, but I am of the belief that you need a good OL for the good old ground and pound.

Hwy 74 near Newton Co 3010. Nothing but good things to say about the emergency response, it was obvious they knew what they were doing. Not quite as thrilled by the wreckless driving award AHP drove all the way to Harrison to give me, but given my condition i couldn't argue about the wreckless part.
Several times in the past, but no ozark cafe this trip. We had eaten lunch at a tiny store/sandwich shop, I'm blaming the turkey.
PIB's, I carry an InReach when alone. Probably need to use it more. Usually in the tank bag..... I would have never reached it, needs to be on your body somewhere.
I agree that it really should be on your body. I ride with a small camelback. I keep it in there or in a jacket.
One of my spills, long ago, and end over my bike was a good 50 yards down the road. If I'd had a neck or back injury, I was never making it.
It was definitely the turkey! Tryptophan makes folks sleepy and speed hungry. Science!!!

Well, since gear and wrecks came up I thought I would throw in a piece that's always with me.
I ride off road and on, not infrequently alone, and frequently in very remote locations.
Whether you fall into this group or not, I recommend a locator beacon. You might not have faculty to use it if your in too bad a way, but it's great to have if you are injured and in a remote location. I use the one in the link below. It's a simpler beacon and the cost reflects the one way, no frills aspect. It is however, small enough to keep in a riding jacket or somewhere on your bike if needed.

I should be well over it by now, but I'm not.

Are we familiar enough with Oklahoma to just call this Yukon and not Yukon, OK? I was imagining some sort of frozen poop stick murder.
Yeah, that's a terrible choice. Saw OP or otherwise fixed it in title.
