I love voidzilla/coffeezilla for his exposure of all sorts of scammers particularly bitcoin conartist. His summation below expresses essentially exactly how I feel about the topic.

Fun show. Almost 3 years since Season 2 ended. Wife and I will probably have to re-watch previous seasons.
It is a show that certainly isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea. It's an odd mix of genres but I found it very entertaining and enjoyable.

Kinda reads like wish casting, but I'm down for it. Let's fucking go.
I'm doing the best to read the tea leaves but our POTUS has historically always liked to back whatever he perceives as a winner. Now to define his meaning of winner is beyond tricky.
That said between his desire to be on the "winning team", recent events noted in that article and some folks on his own team pushing for it... well I would move it past wish casting. I'll never claim to be able to predict his moves though. However, if he goes against it now, history may end up writing him in as backing a loser. (I dont think he cares that it's an evil tyrant) That's potentially very bad for his legacy which is the only thing he cares deeply for beyond money and power.

Trump criticizes Putin after approving more weapons for Ukraine -
SpoilerWASHINGTON - President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he had approved sending U.S. defensive weapons to Ukraine and was considering additional sanctions on Moscow, underscoring his frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the growing death toll in Russia's war with Ukraine.
Trump, who pledged as a presidential candidate to end the war within a day, has not been able to follow through on that promise and efforts by his administration to broker peace have come up short.
Trump directed his ire at Putin on Tuesday during a meeting with cabinet officials at the White House.
"We get a lot of bullshit thrown at us by Putin ... He's very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless," Trump said
Trump said he was considering whether to support a bill in the Senate that would impose steep sanctions on Russia over the war.
"I'm looking at it very strongly," he said.
The bill, whose lead sponsors are Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, would also punish other countries that trade with Moscow, imposing 500% tariffs on nations that buy Russian oil, gas, uranium and other exports.
Trump said on Monday that the United States would send more weapons to Ukraine, primarily defensive ones, to help it defend itself against Russian advances. On Tuesday he said he had approved such a move.
"We're sending some defensive weapons to Ukraine, and I've approved that," he said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Tuesday he had ordered an expansion of contacts with the United States to ensure critical deliveries of military supplies, primarily air defence.
"We currently have all the necessary political statements and decisions and we must implement them as quickly as possible to protect our people and positions," he said.
"These are critical deliveries that mean saving lives and protecting Ukrainian cities and villages. I expect results from these contacts very soon. And this week, we are preparing formats for meetings of our military and political teams."
Zelenskiy has repeatedly urged Ukraine's Western allies to impose tougher sanctions on Moscow to force the Kremlin to agree to a ceasefire as a step towards reaching an end to the war, now 40 months old.
A decision by the Pentagon to halt some shipments of critical weapons to Ukraine prompted warnings by Kyiv last week that the move would weaken its ability to defend against Russia's intensifying airstrikes and battlefield advances.
Trump, who was seated next to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, was asked on Tuesday who had ordered that pause.
"I don't know. Why don't you tell me?" Trump responded.
"We get a lot of bullshit thrown at us by Putin ... He's very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless," Trump said
🙄
The bill, whose lead sponsors are Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, would also punish other countries that trade with Moscow, imposing 500% tariffs on nations that buy Russian oil, gas, uranium and other exports.
If these two are agreeing upon it, perhaps some others should listen.

Based on a couple posts from yesterday, it sounds like volunteers aren’t needed at the moment? How long is that likely to be the case? I planned to drive up to help clear debris tomorrow and Thursday. Is that not recommended? If not, would it be better after a couple more days once the initial round of volunteers taps out? Any good links around where someone is posting for volunteer signup or something of the sort? I’ve sent money and supplies, but I’ve still got my body and a bunch of gear I can put to use, just don’t wanna get in the way.
I'm responding to you but in a broader stroke others as well.
Based on my recent experience with the horrible flooding in Eastern Kentucky and Western North Carolina, and broader experience, this process takes time. In about a week or 2, when the news cycles have diminished and attention has dropped off is when more needs will arrise. I don't claim to know exactly what those will be. Sometimes is trash pick up or driving people around, some times just psychological help, sometimes it's chain saws and hauling gear. It varies greatly, but the need is there. @West Kerr Horn noted it briefly but this will take longer than the news cycle will bring attention. Typically, that's when help is needed the most. I'd plug into on of the churches or find a contact out that way and stay tuned in for updates in the near future. That's when you will likely be of the most help. That, of course, can always change, needs might arrise sooner, but typically it is a week or 2 after the event, when most people have moved on that the greatest need for help occur.

One criticism is that it didnt spend enough time on the horrors of nuclear weapons or the toll on scientists experimenting with radioactive materials. Or, the government extracting land from the natives or the impact on them.
How long should Nolan have spent on other things? And you say they spent too much time talking about nuclear weapons. Your viewpoint is even less relevant and superficial than others who criticize what the movie missed. At least they have a point. That's not what I was talking about.
Explaining it you is a waste of time and key stokes. You've always made it clear in every thread that anyone who disagrees with your opinion is factually wrong despite opinions being subjective. You're not in these threads to discuss opinions nor your thoughts on movies, you come in here to tell people why they're stupid and have bad opinions.
It's super cool and productive.

You're probably right but I don't underestimate Aggy's willingness to throw a botload of cash at a recruit just so that they can steal one from LSU's backyard.
Is there a new kink feature in sex bots that aggie has created? I mean.. it tracks but... it's news to me.

Nobody I know outside of Surly or Reddit or true-crime sites has really gives a fuck about this and very few are even aware of the deathsI have relatives in other towns and states ask me about it and can’t believe when I say it’s a running joke with a lot of people or that we aren’t scared to go downtown.
Ehhh... I agree it's definitely niche knowledge/conspiracy but I think its a bit broader than you're painting it out to be. For me it ties into the Smiley Face Murder conspiracy which, while niche, is not a small niche. I am very hesitant to go to downtown Austin.
Mostly cause its a 14 hour drive for me and I'm too old.
For the record I met @Nicole44 once near a body of water where alcohol was involved and lived to tell tail. Though I did find her parting comment to me a bit disconcerting.
"You seem like a nice guy, if a little old, short and fat, but in a pinch... Nice to me you!"

You are completely right. We really needed more horseback riding and pipe smoking featured and less nuclear bombs in the movie about Oppenheimer.
I really wish you people would share which films we’re missing out on that put Nolan movies to shame. So, prior to watching Oppenheimer you were completely unaware that Nuclear War was bad?
That tracks.
-
I enjoyed Oppenheimer, but there was just way too much "Nuclear was is bad, mmmhhmmkay."
The Prestige was a little too proud of itself.
Momento was fantastic as was thr Dark Knight.
Dunkirk was good but felt a little heavy handed to me but I still enjoyed it.
I liked Inception as it was an interesting idea, but it wasn't a great film.
I truly enjoy Nolan's work in the broad strokes. He has a fun interesting approach to film in all aspects but he does lean a little heavy towards people are really stupid. Sadly.. while it diminishes some of his films, he's not wrong.

30 odd mins of just syd doing a lame comparison between sleepovers to restaurants felt like 4 hours of regular time.
i liked her hairdresser friend, she was funny. The rest of episode was just super dull.
Glad you liked it. For me it sucked the goat ass.
Yeah, running time aside it was a shit show of shitty exposition. I noted in my original post the friend and daughter were the fucking highlights of the episode. Every time Syd opened her pie hole I wanted to fast forward, so much so that at one point I fucking did. The only "new" insight we got was her friend looks great in her fit, the daughter is a good actress, and her friend does her extensions. Also, Syd prefers to shop at Whole Foods in Old Town Chicago. (Well, I picked that part up) Riveting.

Heads of State was a lot of fun. It's a summer popcorn flick with lots of well done fight scenes and jet fights and crazy car chases. The jokes were plenty good enough.
Some people may prefer a classic novel or the local playhouse.
AND Priyanka Chopra Jonas in a lot of tight fitting clothes... but who likes that sort of thing.

She's also not the only character to get an episode about a side journey. I enjoyed that episode along side the others.
I might have also missed something too, but it did not appear that Carmen was in on the talks to franchise The Beef and how it could save the overall business and he just kept saying over and over that "they'll figure it out" so from his perspective he's gifting Syd and Richie ownership in a business that is failing financially?
There's no way Season 5 is about Carmen moving on to something else. He's still the star of the show. I get the story line that he's not in love with it anymore but Season 5 will almost certainly be about him finding that love again somehow and learning to manage both the career and personal life in a reasonable manner.
I just want to clarify Worm was NOT a side journey. It was an entire episode of exposition about her choices. 45 minutes of what I view as poorly written exposition. It was not a side journey. Enjoyment is subjective and if you enjoy 45 minutes of poorly written exposition, fair, but it wasn't a side journey and brought no new development to her character arc unless you want to say "we learned she's pretty good with kids", and/or "The actress playing her really sucks at writing metaphore".

I remember when I was a kid, I was getting out of the theater with my parents when a mugger came up and tried to steal my mom's pearls. My dad tried to fight him but they both ended up getting shot and dying. Since then I have sworn an oath to pursue justice against all evildoers. I will add this lighter and gas pump technique to my repertoire.
Hope you already aligned your boy wonder. @Js1 is spoken for, btw.

Heads of State stars John Cena and Idris Elba, and is really terrible. Just awful.
I went to rotten tomatoes fully expecting a score of around 15%, and it's at 65%. Audience score is 80%.
Eh.. it's very cliché and predictable but it's John Cena and he's the US president. It's mindless dumb entertainment. Some people enjoy that occasionally. Also:

That's called adrenaline. It's why couch-cowboys who buy a gun, or a knife, or a baton think they are just going to "see red" and be able to perform. Doesn't work like that. Your fine motor skills go to shit. It's why a sport like BJJ, even if you are not any good, get you to experience having other people put their hands on you (and try to strangle you) helps inoculate you to some extent. I've never been mugged, but I was in think brush and was charged by a very large, very angry boar. I don't remember clearing my pistol, firing, and most certainly missing each and every shot at almost point blank range. Luckily he ran right past me. But I get it. The shakes last for what seems like an eternity.
What's the expression - you don't rise to the occasion, you fall to your lowest level of training/preparation. As a gun guy, I'm talking to all you other gun guys.....adrenaline is a motherfucker, and @Gatorubet you did well thinking on your feet like that. Use the hose. Douse everyone and everything. Don't try and be a hero.
Good post and always a good teaching moment.

I disagree on more episodes. I think. Have a tight story. More episodes and then you get “filler” episodes. I guess maybe I should say do as many as the writers / directors think is a tight story. If it’s 6 great, if it’s 12 do that, but don’t do 12 if they say 6.
Just wanted to quickly respond here as I fully agree. I think way too many shows produce X numbers of episodes why Y would have sufficed. Reduce shitty side character archs, reduce overall characters, stick to the main story and stop with the emotional baggage that doesn't drive plot as well as overly extensive back story not relevant to core characters. Also, way too much fucking exposition.
You end up with "Worms", when you just wanted to fly fish.

C/P from the help page wanted to drop it here too.
Following up a bit to what @West Kerr Horn noted above.
Spoke with @InkaUtexas who was out there. In good news, the supplies and need for people is well met at this point. He sent me a pic which I will post below. Based on his information it sounds like there isn't a ton of structure nor infrastructure damage. There was a ton of resources from Federal, State and other broad local Texas assistance.
There is not currently a need for people nor resources, again based on information from Inka while on site. This may change but its the current reality.
In emergency response there are 3 points as a volunteer.
1) Don't add to the issues
2) If you're not contributing you're in the way.
3) If you fall into area 1 or 2, leave.
Sounds harsh, but its truth. Inka and his friend found themselves as #2 so they are choosing #3.
I told him I would provide this update so I am.
Here is 1 pic of all the water at a single location of which there were about 10. First responders had no place to store more goods. They legitimately had too much stuff.

Oppenheimer (Nolan)
in Movies and TV
Posted
It's a different thread but a discussion of Open Your Eyes, Vanilla Sky and Eyes Wide Shut would be an interesting one. I think there are interesting parts and those 3 compare well, but others might just think my take stupid. For the record, of them, Open Your Eyes is far and away the best film, imo. I don't think Eyes Wide Shut was a bad film... rather had issues.
I think Kurosawa could be on that list potentially.
Anyway, I didn't find Oppenheimer to be a terrible film just overly focused on the psychological aspects rather than the leaning into the insane story around the facts and reality of the development. It's an insane story the depths of which should have been the focus but weren't.
