I had a family friend when I was younger who had a son in east Texas that was very intelligent. He got into Princeton. His dad, however, grew up cheering for the aggies. His son thought he might want to be an engineer, so his dad insists on taking him to ATM to meet with the admissions folks and people in engineering. His son scored like a 1580 on his SAT and had been accepted into anywhere, really. He hadn't yet applied to ATM.

So they end up meeting with an admissions person and an engineering school employee involved with admissions. This is late 90's/early 00's timing and both employees that they meet with are crewcut-wearing redasses. They proceed to tell this kid and his dad that the engineering school at ATM is so hyper-competitive that they're not sure he's actually got what it takes to get in and they're not some liberal northeast school that looks only at SAT scores. Both father and son leave the experience asking "Who in the fuck do these people think they are?". He went on to Princeton and tells that story to people these days when ATM comes up. I assume this is a common phenomenon with these goobers.

weird. when i walked into the princeton admission offices telling them my dad was a huge tigers fan and that i had made a perfect verbal score on the sat they gave me a scholarship immediately. shit is slipping.

I thought the same thing. Trying to put some pressure on them to let him commit. I don't think it accomplishes much when he's already committed to another school.

i think he actually has a committable lsu offer now. his film is fun as hell, hope we keep him.

Liking the Foals album.  Excited to see them tuesday.  They always put on a great show.

didn't realize they were on tour over here, then started looking at dates, then saw they're opening for interpol in a 3,000 seat venue in kansas city on may 2nd and . . . i am intrigued.

Came here to post about the new Local Natives. Look, they're not an evolving band and pretty formulaic, but their new single "when am I gonna lose you" is goddam great.

oooh, this is much better than cafe amarillo.

and i need some more time with foals, but liking it. 'sunday' is a jam.

i listened to their first record a year or two ago once or twice but really, really liking the new caracara single.

Brauninger: "What do you think of Garrett Hayes as an OL commit?"

Looch: "tu's OL recruits are overrated."

And other "good" recruiting nuggets from these morons.

i cannot imagine what sort of sick fucks make a bet where the loser has to listen to a liucci podcast, but i respect it nonetheless.

Give it a little time. And skip the radio edit, the full track has that Foals build up. I’m ready for moar tracks now!

this finally clicked for me and i'm digging it. wearing out the new national song as well, although i can't figure out if i genuinely like or just intrigued by it.

and i was really excited to hear the new local natives song, and it just . . kind of . . sounds like the rest of their stuff that i've marginally enjoyed since gorilla manor.

  7. since i have not been able to keep up with 2020 yet - what does the texas board look like at cb / s? ringo looks like a badass, but after that it seems like there are a bunch of 6'2" 180 kids that are are more or less interchangeable, at least until they start showing up at more camps and / or get more film out there.

i like jaylon jones, but not sure how much more than any of the other guys out there at this point.

12:30 Brauninger, "Demas is the greatest athlete I've ever covered and I don't know why he's not #1" which leads Looch on a long crying rant about 247 recruiting rankings influenced by "the shush man and gooseneck".

48:15 "Which Longhorns WR commit will eventually be ranked higher than Demas?" Plus, they go down memory lane about 2000s UT commits, like an aggy radio show should do.

my god, i spend far too much of my life worrying about a&m football and i would rather be sodomized by bevo himself than listen to one second of billy fucking liucci discuss literally anything.

For me, only Oloroso sherry is worth drinking. (It's the "añejo" of sherries.)

I spit the Fino out in my wine class as soon as I could grab the spit bucket. (That didn't exactly score points with my instructor, who was from Spain.) The one we tasted was purely medicinal. I explained to a wine guy at a Total Wine & More in LA that I would describe it as "something that you would use to clean a wound." He chuckled and agreed.

Any sherry with "Cream" in it has been sweated and was originally made for the British market. It's crap.

Amontillado is a blend of Fino & Amoroso... I can't recall trying it in class and I've never bought it. (It would be the reposado of sherries.)

Pedro Ximénez is sweet as well, but it's not doctored crap like the creams. It might be like a vintage port.

You can read up on all the types of Sherry (a.k.a. "Jerez" or "Xerez") here: https://www.sherrynotes.com/sherry-types/

    Between extremely low and undrinkable.

i've been traveling, but i assume this means our 2020 class is going poorly.

I guess you should probably add Deneric Prince and Brian Johnson to the list as they were baked in attrition. They were the 2 Manvel kids that Aggie added to ensure that they'd land Preston. Although Johnson played a lot on STs and only has to beat out Roney Elam and/or Antonio Howard to nail down a spot on the 2-deep at Nickel.

I also think you should pencil in Barton Clement because the guy can barely bend at all and can't run 5 yards at a time (no hyperbole) - just check the first few plays of the 3rd team offense in this vid ::

digging through a&m practice videos to find third team offense drills of barton clement to own the libs.

although to be fair, he does look a bit rough here.

The big reason I hesitate to walk away from a musician’s work at this point is the mild hypocrisy of it.

All the “classic” rock guys make Adams look like a Mormon and no one is calling them on the carpet.  John Lennon beat the fuck out of his first wife and he’s some kind of ambassador for peace and love.  Mick Jagger?  Go listen to “Stray Cat Blues”.  Zeppelin?  Mercy.  Pete Townshend had some child porn.  The list goes on.  Despite the fairly known foibles of these guys, there’s no demand to cancel their art.

For as long as I’ve liked Ryan Adams’ music, I’ve been aware that he wasn’t a good person.  It didn’t stop my listening then, why should it now?

this is a reasonable opinion and while there are probably millions of words to be read on not separating the art and the artist, i'd like to think i can put on english girls approximately and enjoy it the same way i always have.

and yes, selfishly i hope we get to hear the 3 albums, although in this day and age i'm skeptical. wouldn't be surprised if big colors comes out since we're pretty far into the buildup, and the other 2 are quietly released on some subsidiary of a subsidiary.

I have no clue on the Graham side of things. I can say that on the Brewster side of things, he went through a lot of effort to shop himself around to anywhere but BCS with Fisher. Fisher ended up offering him more money than what was on the table from others interested. Herman and Riley both allegedly decided they didn't want him. The second Brown offered him a shot, he bolted.

    i'm worried about you.

I was curious, so I watched the film as well. Obvious disclaimer: it's a highlight reel, so my ability to make conclusions is very limited. But...

Center, guard, or otherwise, he looks stiff, plays high, and has heavy feet. That's problematic. He does do some good things.  I like the way he finishes blocks and he's a big, strong dude. But let's not pretend that he doesn't need quite a bit of work to not be a liability at the next level. I'll wait to see who y'all hire to replace Turner, but even if it's a home run hire, the feet and stiffness are going to be problems - especially if he plays guard, where he'll have to pull sometimes.  There's a reason one of the most important things Saban looks for in OL is flexibility. Good coaching can certainly help him overcome some of these issues, like pad level - but how often do you see guys without much flexibility suddenly develop it at the next level? Even highly ranked ones. He also seems to have some issues reaching the next level, which looks related the above.

Basically, right now, he looks like a depth guy to me who will either get trapdoored or take up a roster slot for 4 or 5 years without much production (although a lot of that will probably depend on what kind of coaching he gets).   If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. And I will have no trouble fessing up if that's the case, so feel free to bookmark this if you want. If that happens, I'll happily eat my words.

i think this is a totally valid take - i personally like the guy's potential at center after a year but turner definitely had his own opinion when it comes to evaluations.

and liucci's paper-thin skin over literally everything after 20 years in the business is kind of amazing.

I welcome any rebuttal of the points I made that you'd care to offer.

he's going to be playing center or guard at the next level. you are correct he does not have elite feet. i think he compares favorably to erik mccoy at this stage, albeit a bit stiffer.

I realize that you people tend to get really, really caught up with rankings, whether you're citing them like the Bible or dismissing them as charlatanism to serve your current agenda, but lets not pretend Robinson's ranking is all that great. Mid to high 3 stars very often end up being JAGS.

     . . . thats the joke . . .

and i fear you've confused me for someone that cares about rankings. going back to hornfans a decade ago, i always enjoyed looking at the film of these guys and trying to figure out who offered and why, and what these guys potential ceilings are.

i fear most of the people who did the same have been driven away, but i - always a glutton for punishment and animal husbandry - remain steadfast.

Slow day today so I watched half of Robinson's senior video.  He's exactly the kind of guy that recruiting services overrate.  He's huge and uses that size to push smaller defenders around at the LOS.  His slow feet don't prevent him from mashing a HS DL lined up directly over him.  It looks impressive when the guy is 100 lbs lighter and gets driven 5-6 off the ball.  It's what you DON'T see that matters.  There is only 1 highlight of Robinson locating and driving a LB flowing to the ball and nothing WRT 3rd level defenders.

But the worst part was poor balance and technique in pass blocking.  Robinson repeatedly gets his weight too far forward and falls down about half the time.  Since these are highlight, they only show the ones where he took the defender down with him.  But it's pretty obvious there were others not seen where he missed and left the DL a clear path to the QB.  In fact if you look at 5:06 that's exactly what happens when the DE beats him inside and Robinson just grabs him and throws him down.

So good: big, strong, solid HS run blocker.  Bad: slow, poor balance, bad pass protector, little ability to operate in space.  Looks like JAG to me.

your commitment to your internet bit is unflappable, and i commend you.
