I enjoyed this, as always. I do feel obligated to post your prediction from last year, because for all the shit we gave bizzle, he was right on with his regular season prediction of 7-5 last year.
I always enjoy these, bizzle. Good work. I can't say much for your choices in booze, but I only store scotch for relatives and enemies, so $#@! it.
I think you are kennel blind, or your source is, on your secondary beyond Oliver and Watts. Wake me up when Priest Willis resembles mediocre. The CB element of your defense makes Tony Holmes and Ryan Palmer blush with embarrassment.
Good teams are strong down the middle, supposedly. At least in baseball. Not real sure that's going to help you on the gridiron, but, well, maybe Sumlin is a big Astros fan or something. I like your backfield, interior OL, DTs, and Kirk. You're going to need some luck and magic beyond that.
I've called it for months - I think New Mexico and Bob Davie publicly butt$#@! you in Kyle Field in November. If he's not arrested for sodomy on the way out of town (and let's face it, if the sheep have no recourse, why would a soon to be fired coach get any help from the law?), I could see Old Army making an impassioned and well-heeled plea for the weathered but masterful hands of a one Coach Davie to guide ATM back on course. That's probably just me fantasizing, but it's a great fantasy.
I don't like your outlook this season. I see 4-8 and a lot of laughter.
when you've fucked a chicken as long as i have, you know it well.

i had not noticed.

Always enjoy your yearly predictions.
In addition to w/l, what are your thoughts on:
- how many games would Fisher have to lose this season (or this and next) for your money guys to start hiring pi's to start monitoring for cause?
- what's your personal take on Jimbos agreement terms? At what point (w/l) would you start to say "oh shit"?
i think as long as we show some sort of step towards actual physicality, play gap sound defense and continue to recruit well, there's not much that's going to throw me over the next 2 seasons. jimbo's style almost guarantees we're going to be in a couple of games we shouldn't over the next two seasons both with teams way more and less talented.
i'll start to say oh shit when WTI gets below $35 / barrel.

it's tuesday conference call time, and for the 7 of you that care, the 3 that will take the time to ask questions, the hundreds of you that live with your parents and will hurl misspelled insults, and closetojumping, here is what you can expect from my ags this year:
TLDR: i have no idea. smart money would say the defense would be better than expected (elko is really good, there are some front 7 athletes over there although the secondary is going to be slow as shit) and the offense is going to struggle transitioning to a new scheme without much talent. combine that with a schedule that has more opportunities for wins at the tailgate than on the field, and let's call it 7-5 (decent shot at 6-6, outside shot at 8-4 if the offense can click).
offense: can jimbo scheme away the lack of talent at tackle? and even if he can will we be able to have any semblance of downfield threats? his natural tendency is to lock down into the underneath stuff, but that may not be the best option with this collection of talent.
qb: there's a reason mond had a bunch of offers coming out of IMG - dude has some arm talent, he's a hard worker, decent runner (way more fast than quick) and a smart kid. staff really wanted him to win the job, but he's conservative as hell with the ball, which works for and against him. starkel has a great arm, is kind of a weird kid, and thinks he can put the ball in any window on the field, which drives fisher insane. fisher skews conservative anyways, and i expect mond to eventually win out, which means our rb's and te's are going to catch a thousand balls at 4.6 ypa.
foster will be interesting to watch develop. fisher is a different cat, but if does anything on an elite level, it's get the most out of his quarterback talent.
rb: trayveon williams is being built up to stupid expectations this fall, but he's a very solid running back who shouldn't have more than about 15-18 touches a game or he'll fall apart. etwi is actually a solid little back who probably shouldn't be getting more than 3-4 carries a game. we really need jashuan corbin to grow up quick, but he may not be ready. no idea what people hyping vernon jackson see, get that guy to defense. i expected charles strong to come in and compete but he disappeared when the pads came on.
we will feel the results of clarence mckinney lazily fucking us here for another year or two.
wr: one of several places sumlin's roster management was outstanding, there are somehow zero upperclassmen wide receivers on a team that was running the spread and seemingly signed 10 a year. good times. jhamon ausbon is lacking a step to be elite, but is going to be a really productive college wide receiver. quartney davis looks all the way back from his acl and has been fantastic in camp. need that to translate because there's not much behind it. there's a bunch of other dudes, some are faster, some are bigger, most are jags. really wished we could have payed enough to get jaylen waddle, we need someone to threaten deep badly as most good defenses should play everyone within about 7 yards from the line of scrimmage.
te: our staff seems legitimately excited about the kansas transfer jace sternberger, he's put on a bunch of weight in juco and works his ass off. for all the shit tim brewster gives and takes, the guy is actually a really good tight ends coach, so we'll see what happens. trevor wood is a big dude who can block, lol at him being an nfl guy liucci. nothing behind those guys are ready, need baylor cupp to come in hot.
ol: the marine! this is probably the biggest swing factor between a fall-apart 5 win year and a shocking 9 win campaign - turner, like most ol coaches, is a polarizing guys, and his evals are all over the fucking place. jimbo didn't exactly inspire confidence with his ol selections at FSU, so will be interesting to see what happens here. dan moore is a mauler at left tackle, which is not great when facing a bunch of first round nfl end prospects. should be ok inside from g-c-g as sutherland, hocker and especially mccoy are all solid (with mccoy having the chance to be an all-conference guy). carson green is a year away from being really good at right tackle, but there's nobody there to push him. frightening depth. maybe one guy who can fake tackle and 1-2 inside.
defense: i believe in elko! the secondary may be unschemeable though.
dl: should be a strength. durham is a try-hard guy who will be asked to drop a lot more this year, but a solid college player. keke won't get any pressure, but shouldn't get run on either at the other end. there are a bunch of guys at end who should be good in a year or two but one has to step up quickly, most likely bobby brown.
mack is fun to clown on based on recruiting rankings and appetite, but is a good kid and finally seems engaged, hopefully this defense is a better fit for however many snaps he has to give. if madubuike can stay healthy he's going to be really good, need one more dt to step up and this will be a solid rotation.
lb: dodson is a stud. alaka looks great in pads, but just isn't instinctive enough. he should be fine, no more, no less. hines is still putting it together, but is a hell of an athlete. coaches love buddy johnson, and he better be good, because there is literally nothing else on the roster. if larry pryor is forced into any meaningful snaps, i will be consuming an entire bottle of eagle rare 17 in one sitting.
cb: charles oliver is good. everybody else is a prayer. renfro is tough as hell, but lacks a step (or three), and chattman can't stay healthy. they'll throw a lot of bodies at the position and elko's scheme protects these guys more than chavis, but still could be ugly if we can't get pressure.
s: bunch of good, instinctive football players who will hit you, not sure who is going to cover the deep middle. donovan wilson should get an nfl shot, but not sure what he's running these days. i like derrick tucker, but again don't want the dude deep. will be interesting to see leon o'neal in live action. still wonder if he eats his way to rover in the next 18 months.
lacamera will be a really good kicker, which is good as jimbo wants to win every game 24-21. braden mann is a punter. our returners should probably just fair catch everything and call it a net neutral.
will be fascinating to watch fisher shove square pegs into round holes all over this roster (if you will) and how fast he can get his offense executing - and even if he can, will that work in this league with the players he can get? look for me rushing the field at clemson.

For those worried about everything falling into place for aggy after this year... don't.
Next year:
At Clemson
At Georgia
At LSU
At Ole Miss
Arky neutral
Home Auburn
Home Bama
Home MSU
Home South Carolina
I see 4 absolute losses + 5 probable losses
2020
At Bama
At Auburn
At MSU
At South Carolina
Neutral Arky
Home LSU
Home Ole Miss
4 probable losses + 3 tossups
i see possible death from tailgating at clemson, athens, baton rouge, oxford, auburn and tuscaloosa, but i am but a simple man who has a soft spot for southern trust-fund brunettes.

damn houston nutt for ruining those 37 member classes for everyone.
and wright reminds me a little bit of brennan eagles - big dude that can run that looks incredible getting off the bus but the production seems a little lower than it should be. crazy high ceiling, low floor kid.

new coaching staff, i'm getting old as fuck . . .it will be out before game one.
leaning towards a loss in the semifinals, but we'll see who the starting qb is.

LSU never offered Tongue or Constantin, and never pushed for Harris. They landed Starks, and Aranda chose to go with Marcel Brooks and a 3* from Alabama over those mentioned above, for better or for worse
Bama gave Harris a take it or leave it commitment ultimatum awhile back and Harris didn't commit. Then in June when Harris tried to commit, Bama told him they weren't ready to take his commitment. Don't be surprised if they circle back, and when A&M's season is down the drain, it should be academic at that point
i love this thread so damn much.

Why can't aggy just say that then? Instead of taking someone who historically might be the shittiest OC in modern college football and credit him for Fuente and Norvell's offenses.
because people like myself that post on message boards are idiots?

Fuente not taking Dickey with him to VaTech says plenty.
he tried, Dickey wanted to see his daughter graduate from high school.
and as someone pointed out above, dickey is less there for his play-calling acumen, and more for his relationships with seemingly every high school coach in the region, his experience in about 10 different offensive systems, and most importantly the fact he is a great dude and can get along with anybody. fantastic guy to get a beer with and listen to stories.

Sumlin's second real class also got a gigantic boost from the Manziel Heisman hype, new facilities, and the SEC move. And we were terrible at the time. Unless they shock with a really good season this year, I don't see that happening for them in the 2020 class especially if Herman gets things rolling here.
That said, I know it's easy to bag on them for filling up on bread and I know their elf coach promised a top 1 or 2 class, but a top 6-10 finish is nothing to sneeze at. They are doing well this cycle.
i think the real question, as always, is in evaluations. that 2013 class ended up being weirdly terrible for pretty much everybody in the region, but can jimbo's staff consistently recruit top 10 quality without nearly the attrition and misses sumlin had? obviously as a fan I'm hoping so, but it's also the only way his offense is going to work.

I've been where you're at, man, and I feel for you. You really, really need this coaching hire to work out and you've convinced yourself that it will, and cleanly. Anyone or anything referencing otherwise must be a rube, a loon, or both.
That all said, I've merely aged like a fine wine. I'm taking a position based on what I believe, just like I always have.
i've always appreciated your taking of positions, you've just lost any and all objectivity when it comes to looking at the actual players since jimbo arrived, which is fine.

I know we've touched on this, but it is pretty interesting to watch what is happening in BCS. They're taking a bunch of character issue guys and grade risks, and a bunch of mercenaries or players with bad hangers on within their circle. This will either blow-up hilariously and the attrition will ultimately be off the charts, or this has the makings of an outlaw program with no moral compass a la ATM under Sherrill, OU under Switzer, and Miami generally. That's somewhat ominous to me.
Look at the players:
2018-
-Bobby Brown - a flake who juked around with multiple schools until the last second and also looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane.
-Tank Jenkins - auction
-Jashaun Corbin - auction
-James Foster - auction that the in-state schools more or less ignored until Bama got desperate late.
-Vernon Jackson - flake who thinks he's going to play TB at ATM and be a star. Note: Oscar Giles failed to offer him the opportunity to start out at TB until the afternoon of signing day. Strong work, Oscar.
-Leon O'Neal - an undertalented, overrated prima donna who expects to start early and be a high draft pick after 3 years. A shattered worldview for this guy will be one of the greatest aggie meltdowns in years.
2019-
-Erick Young - TankedBevo's plaintive protestations aside, this dude pulled a stunt I've never even seen before and showed us who he is in the process.
-Bobby Wolfe - the 2019 version of Leon O'Neal. Getting these two goobers in the same DB film room will probably asphyxiate everyone else due to a lack of oxygen being present when they're done talking/beating chests.
-Bobby Williams - a stud who shut everything down in one visit and is not speaking to anyone else, anywhere. ATM struck an absolutely great deal here with the family.
-Jeffery Carter - he has a turd hanging on to him that has caused many programs to end pursuit. It's pretty bad if that happens. He's a stud player with a helicopter parent firing RPGs from above, so it should be awesome to witness.
-Kenyon Green - I told the story of his dad allegedly trying to find a bidding war for his kid's attendance to an all-star game. I've never heard of that one before, but it's hilarious. Anyway, another one who thinks he's one thing, but he projects as something else, and not a person around him has ever told him otherwise or thought it themselves.
-Tarian Lee - needs a brain transplant to get into college.
-Andre White - another guy who visits one time and shuts everything down and won't speak to anyone. Okay.
-Beason and Brooks - I don't think ATM is done looking at either of these two.
They'll also look to close around signing day on some of the purer auctions with guys who either never visit or mention them until the final 2-3 weeks of this period, or guys that the local programs simply will not touch, hence their availability.
Can you build a program around these types? Florida did it, but they also had a transcendent leader who kept the thugs in line. Things went sideways when he was done. Earlier examples don't fit due to the high, high level of talent that was being purchased, and locally, for OU, ATM, and Miami when they were doing what they were doing. All three of those scenarios ended badly nonetheless. Only ATM was incompetent enough to not win at least one MNC during their run.
your slow march towards crazy on this website is a hell of a thing to behold. and i am here for it.

Bizzle, I sounded the same way without study of film back in the 90s. Watching higher ranked players go to other schools and thinking, "the number 15 player might be nearly as good as the number 6 player; that's what some of the recruiting guys say."
this is a good point, however: a. my post above literally refers to the film of tarian hill. b. this board isn't exactly populated with people pouring over hudl videos.
