  1. To me, it’s just a song. To the student-athletes that are requesting it be removed, it’s a signal of racism. Don’t get me wrong, some of my favorite memories involve singing that song, but I’ll defer to the current students and athletes on whether to change it.
  2. That fish is pretty skinny for the size of its head. Is that typical or just the angle?
  3. You should normalize the y-axis on the first graph.
  4. Neighbors growing up had a trout shack on the landcut. Got to make 2-3 trips down there as a kid. Probably my favorite fishing and hunting experiences of my life. Some day I’ll find a way to make another run.
  5. Note to self: don't go to Orvis store anytime soon.
  6. I actually have an old Orvis Rocky Mountain Large Arbor that I'm using, also have an intermediate line coming. Those Hydros look nice though.
  7. Orvis Clearwater Someday I'll buy a rod from a different series.
  8. These are saltwater fish. I’m targeting them a little bit upstream from the mouth of a tidal river. I don’t do a lot of true surf fishing. I need to find some more reliable spots near me. I do have a few spots in some of the smaller bays and coves where I’ve had decent luck. I also have a new 10wt rod coming in to punch those flies a little further to cover more ground.
  9. First Striper on the fly! EP baitfish in white with a little pearl gold angel hair. Fished on full sink line on a 6wt.
  10. School is back in session. Schoolies were biting on the falling tide to 25”. Wind was blowing at 20mph, so I didn’t cast the fly rod. Will be back at sunrise; hopefully the wind will be down a bit.
  11. Yep, chain pickerel. I love fly fishing for northerns. Not too many around me, but next time I get back to Minnesota, I’m gonna swap a day of targeting smallies for northerns.
  12. Out on a local pond in the canoe, both kids were casting paddle tails on 1/8oz jig heads. Daughter landed this toothy bad boy all on her own. I was amazed that no one hooked themselves or each other. I’ve been tying EP Baitfish getting ready for Stripers. This one is about 4” long on a 1/0 SW hook. I’ve never fished an EP baitfish, I’ll have a floating and sinking line with me. Any tips?
  13. Order a couple sizes at once, use a credit card, and return the ones that don’t fit. Their customer service is great.
  14. I loved the caption on that poster: "Swiftly they came Rugged as the land With vengeance To restore order to the southwest"
  15. It's pretty gnarly, but it'll fish. I watched him tie it on YouTube yesterday, man kept me rapt for over an hour tying one fly. I tried tying one in purple and black as well. Main issues are hook and eyes. I'm using Mustad 3366 and small lead eyes. This combo leads me to crowding the head and having to shave so close for the eyes to be visible that I lose the necessary material to keep that nice bullet shaped head. I might try today, but skip the dubbed body on the front hook to make a bigger head.
  16. First Sex Dungeon attempt. Wish I had some white grizzly rubber legs.
  17. Up here it’s Van Staal, ZeeBaas, Shimano, and Penn spinning for 99% of people casting. You’ll get some boat guys using revolving spools for drifting/trolling bait. I’ll use a low profile baitcaster for small water Stripers, but for surf or the canal, I use spinning.
  18. Took the kids out on the Charles. No fish action, but we saw two muskrats get in a fight. Doing lots of tying for Smallie and Striper season. Working on articulated streamers and divers and dubbed angel hair buggers.
  19. Looking for a small outboard for my square stern canoe. Looking at the 2.5 Suzuki or 2.3 Honda. Honda is air-cooled, never run an air-cooled outboard. Avoiding the Tohatsu and Yamaha as they're heavier. Does anyone have experience or recommendations on those? Or should I keep an eye on craigslist for an older 2 stroke?
  20. For Tecovas, I wear 11D. They are hard to get on, but fit great once they're on. My first pair of Cuero was 11D, go on easy, fit very tight in the instep. Last pair of Cuero was 10.5EE, go on easy, fit great in the instep.
  21. I wore pearl snaps when I lived in Texas, but I'd feel like I was trying to wear a costume with a pearl snap up here.
  22. If you stay under 20 net carbs daily, you're doing keto. Net carbs = Total Carbs - Fiber - Sugar Alcohol I find it easiest by sticking with real foods (Meats with Veggies) rather than trying to make keto versions (Cheese and psyllium husk pizza crusts) of high carb food. Also, when you start, don't worry about calories, just track your net carbs. Once you get in the swing, couple of weeks to a month, then start dialing down the amount of food you eat. A lot of times your hunger will have subsided and done this for you already. Agree that the reddit sub r/keto is a good source for starters. I think they get overly dogmatic, but not in a counter productive way.
  23. If the packaging and storage is convenient, that's probably worth the mark up for me. Looks like my local price is about $.67/ounce. Just googled HEB pork rinds and got the sad. I like Wegman's and all, but HEB is still my fave.
  24. Experience with CS has been top notch. I have a Tecovas ostrich belt. It's adequate, but won't get another belt from them. It's not sturdy enough for my liking.
