  1. To me straight up gives the hitters a better chance of tooling off a vertical arm, and the ball falling between the blocker and their side of the net. Pressing takes that away. In theory straight up might give you more block touches?
  2. I think you both (Js1 and SL) have a good points. Personally, I would like to see a better block from the team. I think it's a momentum changer and energizes a team. As far as going for straight up blocks, for more block touches and to take away hitting angles, I'm not really seeing that working, especially against the better teams they have played so far. Maybe the stats say differently. The middles still look a little slow to close the block to me, but Harvey looks quicker and will improve with experience, as will Ames. The strong backrow play this season certainly mitigates some of the blocking deficiencies, but why not both! It's interesting that Stafford's blocking numbers are so poor, but agree it's a good trade off since her backrow play is so strong. Bottom line, imo, aggressively press the block. Louisville was pressing the block so hard against us that they were literally almost jousting our hitters on tight sets.
  3. It's really hard for me to believe that there is not a better option at LG than what we saw Saturday. I know I'm throwing shit against the wall but, what about trying Cruz at LG or Robertson, or Kibble. It can't be any worse. I guess Neto is either completely unhinged with his temper (if so it seems odd we are just hearing about it this year), refuses to play or is deep in the dog house. I mean what the hell, Stroh and Brooks got their chance and whiffed mightily. Brooks I understand, true freshman playing out of position. So let's give some of these other interior olineman a shot. It's somewhat criminal that Flood didn't try some of these other guys when we were playing the sister's of the poor three weeks in a row. Now we are stuck trying to unfuck the line in the middle of conference play. Supposedly, Flood was trying to build cohesion, which sounds good, but it wasn't that hard to figure out that Stroh moved like Frosty the Snowman.
  4. I don’t know what’s up with Arch, but something doesn’t look right with his throws. He’s slow processing. The TD to Weisner could have been thrown much earlier. No reason to hold the ball that long. He’s too in love with the home run ball and over looks open receivers underneath. Doesn’t have a good feel for hot routes on blitzes. All this stuff is somewhat expected for a young QB with a terrible OL, but he’s been in the system long enough that I would think he would be quite a bit further along. He will get better but just not to the level most of us thought, imo.
  5. I caught a little of the Pitt vs Penn St game last night. Babcock was unstoppable. She was serving missiles and her hitting is at another level. The velocity she generates on her serves and swings is crazy. Penn St had absolutely no answer for her. She definitely looks the part of reigning NPOY.
  6. It looks like to me he just needs a bit more patience to see the where the hole develops. Wisner is really good at that aspect. Like a lot of freshman, the game seems to be moving too fast for Clark. He should get better with experience.
  7. I guess we'll see, but yips show up in pressure/stress situations, so games, not practice. Maybe SHSU is so bad Arch can manage it. Still won't really know until conference games start.
  8. Sorry if this has already been discussed, but we have seen it with MLB infielders, when they lose the ability to make a clean throw in the infield. I don’t know, just think it makes the most sense. He wasn’t nearly this bad last year and he can’t be this bad in practice. The bigger question is, how is it handled going forward?
  9. I think it makes the most sense. I can’t believe he is this inaccurate in practice. If we want to relate to golf, the yips usually show up when you’re playing. Warming up and practicing usually aren’t a problem.
  10. I didn't think she could get it inside the antenna from that angle. Incredible effort and execution in the moment.
  11. Setting is too tight to the net. There blockers are taking right off the hitter’s hand.
  12. Passing is not good.
  13. We haven’t had a dominant slide attack since O’Neal was there.
  14. Bunton a little slow closing the block.
  15. Wingo is not an every down, consistent receiver at this point. He's an athletic freak with a ton of upside that will give you the chance at some big plays. He's not a chain moving, reliable route running guy. His hands/pass catching ability are average imo. Is Jaggy? Possibly, too early to tell. i really miss second half of the season Golden. He was nails and bailed the offense out numerous times.
  16. Yep. It's kind of a no win scenario for the next 3 games. If they start slow or don't dominate every game, the hot takes will be flying like Grackles on campus. I'm just hoping for limiting injuries and getting the offense some confidence and rhythm.
  17. Seemed like he was trying to throw some of the short, quick throws off platform like Mahomes and even Ewers. Especially on screens. Ewers did that all the time, but he was actually really accurate that way. He looked rushed, like the game was moving too fast for him. Surprised me, based on how he played last year. I think in one of the interviews before the game, Sark said he wanted Manning to just be himself and play his game. Well, that's not what we saw in this one.
  18. He threw a 90 mph fastball from 4 yards at his knees! That’s on Arch. Just flip it to him.
  19. Better figure this out to have a chance.
  20. If Goosby's injury is a torn up thumb, it might cause some bigger problems, I would think. Olineman basically grab the the jersey/inside shoulder pads of the dline/pass rusher when they are blocking. If he can't use his thumb effectively at this point, it would limit his ability to lock-up on those guys. Of course this is all speculation, since we don't know exactly what the injury is to his hand. Do we?
  21. Are you saying there's a Finebaum curse, like the one for Helobious? If so...fuuuuck! Finebaum is doing a masterful job of trolling the rest of the SEC with that statement imo.
  22. CB is my biggest concern this season, if there really even is one. Barron was an eraser last year, so I would think there will be a drop off at his spot, especially in run support and in the physicality department. Obviously, hard to replace the Thorpe winner. Manny is solid but got lost at times. I think he will continue to improve and be better this season. I hope Guilbeau lives up to the hype this year. We always hear how good he looks in practice, but honestly I haven't been too impressed with him during games. I think he is okay, but was expecting more from past reports. The good news is, there appears to be plenty of capable talent behind him if he doesn't perform.
  23. The obvious answer here is, Parker the Jaggernaut. My god this board well be glorious if he does have a break-out season.
  24. My son and daughter were both offered CAP, but neither chose that path. Daughter is 25 now (she is the athlete) and doing great. Graduated from a rival SEC school (not ATM), works in Dallas, all good. My son (27) was what you described above, except through junior high and high school he never found it. Did really good in elementary school with academics, social and sports. But basically shut down at about 12 to 13 years old, around puberty. The kid is extremely intelligent (has MENSA level IQ through testing) and is funny as hell, but has struggled. He finally got his degree in Digital Communications from Texas State about a year ago, after being in and out of school for the last several years, while working in between. He has done really well and had success while working but wanted to get a degree. He and his girlfriend are now trying to get to the Austin area. He's has spent the last year getting some type of Google certification and applying for entry level IT jobs. Apparently the job market is pretty tight in that area. If anyone has any suggestions or knows of anything available along the I35 corridor I would really appreciate the help.
