If keeping the song means we lose every one of these current players, so be it.  When they leave they are free to explain to other recruits and fans why they will take their talents to Georgia or Mississippi and how the EOT is racist, something like this

    but would applaud their conviction

The real world doesn’t have adversity. It continuously caters to your feelings and changes itself to fit your worldview. It would be a shame if we taught our college kids differently. You’re supposed to always get what you want. 18-22 year olds are society’s unsung heroes based on their wealth of experience and knowledge. In fact, if we were talking about the soccer team instead of the football team, no one would have even heard or cared about this issue. Amazing how a platform can dictate the message.

I hope this issue can be put to bed soon so our team can focus on how to make a tackle or kick and extra point, as interesting as it is to hear their take.

  2. Sam is a very late round draft pick at best, but probably goes undrafted. Sam loves Texas, and is living his dream. He’s not going to have that same passion for the Miami Dolphins sitting on a bench or leading the practice squad. His throwing mechanics need a lot of work. Scrambling QBs don’t fare well in the faster paced NFL.  I hope he moves on because it’s time to start letting the younger guys compete before they get antsy and transfer . But I can also see him staying in an effort to improve his draft stock. The NCAA granted him a reprieve. I’d take it.

LSU fired Miles after a 2-2 start and he had been an enormous success. We can certainly fire a failure. I would also be fine with this if CDC has made the decision.

The question is if that has happened.

Miles got fired after winning a National Championship for LSU. Herman can’t even win the Big 12 in a year where everyone else is terrible. Turns out, we are the pack leaders in that group.

I actually believe that he can come to Texas and not be an abject failure like everything else we have done over the last decade.

    I probably just jinxed it...

The college elite have scandals. They have things to hide. Yet, they go out there and compete EVERY fucking year. Hell, Ohio St, Oklahoma and Florida have done it with a few different coaches.

Why can’t we be those guys? 4-5 losses is a rebuilding year, not a standard. ou should be the only team that competes with us year in and year out in this shitty conference. Instead, we take the Michigan approach and keep our coach because he loves the University. We bend over and become our rival’s bitch on their way to more trophies.

I watched Texas/ou in complete apathy while smoking a turkey. OT cost me some mashed potatoes. I’m usually in my seat 20 minutes before kickoff.

Fuck Tom Herman and fuck ou

First, he's 2-2 but really damn close to 1-3 or 0-3 in games that matter at all. These weren't flukey games, either. These were three games where we were completely unprepared against inferior talent. They've all been lost or nearly lost on scheme and preparation.

Second, I know mid season firings have always been something major programs are "above," but I seriously doubt that will be the case going forward with the new early signing period. If your current coach will drag your recruiting and you believe your new coach will boost them, it's objectively the right thing to do to cut ties early.

The only other consideration is if you think firing early will hurt an otherwise promising season, but no one considering firing their coach is having one of those.

We are in the middle of a pandemic where we are projected to lose $150 million. We have to pay Herman no matter what. What would be the upside of firing him mid-season? Our Offense is going to learn a new system on the fly and challenge for the conference? Even the best coach would struggle with mere days, not weeks, to install a completely new system. This isn’t the NFL where real $ is on the line and you fire a coach for going winless. We as fans are dumb enough to financially support it and make sure of that. When you look at the other side of the coin, Herman is 2 plays away from possibly being 4-0, as crazy as that sounds. We aren’t getting our shit pushed in. We find embarrassment in other areas.

Serious answer: Not as far as anyone here knows.
Serious comment: Stop actively seeking things to be offended by.

I do know the answer, you're fighting larger cultura/political battles in the football forum. Stop doing that.

Disagree wholeheartedly. Their own position and background inform their decisions. They didn't care how hard this would come down on the players because they don't identify with or empathize with the players. They knew the fanbase would turn into the Tasmanian Devil of dogwhistle racism but valued their own comfort and security over that. I don't think black administrators would've operated the same way because they would've understood the position the players were in.

They had a chance to take the hit for the kids and they didn't, in part because they don't share the lived realities of those kids.

This is mischaracterizing the reality. We have former athletes telling us they didn't like it but did it because they were expected to and had no choice. That vision in your head is an illusion. Some of those athletes you were singing The Eyes with/to/at felt offended by it while you were telling yourself you were mind-melding and spirit-bonding with them. I know you want to tell yourself a comforting fairytale, but it's not reality.

It's like finding out a girl you were making out with was actually disgusted the whole time but felt pressured or obligated. You can either call her a whore, tell her she's lying, or take the L and move forward.

Does it actually offend you or are you trying to create controversy where none currently exists for personal attention?

Wait, people do that?!? Clutch the pearls!

I will be surprised if there is another debate. No one in the Trump campaign follows the protocols, no one will comply with them if mandated, and you can’t trust their word. Everyone attending is basically just playing I hope I don’t get infected by Trumps campaign

Do we need another debate? Is there a voter in this country that is still on the fence?

So the fact that the RBs couldnt run, and the wrs cant block and the dbs cant cover and the o-line is shit mixed with stupid, you want Sam to do less because he was pushing it and taking risks and was singlehandedly keeping Texas in the game on the offense by doing exactly that. That one run where he shook off tackles behind the LOS and somehow ran for a TD was awful since he did too much.

There is someone dense here alright.

Jerrod Heard beat ou under Charlie Strong. ou ended up in the CFP. He beat Notre Dame too. He didn’t have a picture of throwing Horns up when he was 4, though.

Sam has regressed. Someone told him to stop running and he takes 8 seconds in the pocket now. He is a wildly inaccurate passer that throws at our WRs feet or completely over throws them. His best play is a sideways screen pass for a loss. I don’t doubt his desire, but he is the tallest midget of the last 10 years.

Cool. Then the students, alumni, etc can suit up and play instead.

I’m not white knighting them. It’s been hashed and rehashed - I agree that the song and its history aren’t racist. But just telling young black men “you’re wrong - shut up and play” isn’t going to change their take. I’m just being pragmatic and realistic.

But go ahead. I’m sure that black men are going to be easily persuaded by a bunch of well-off white football fans calling them names. That approach is destined to be super-effective.

Please quote the post where I said that the players are wrong and to shut up and play. Further, please quote any names I’ve called them, racist or otherwise.

Making up arguments is a waste of both of our time. I could not care less if the players sing the song. I think they should make an appearance to support the fans that support them, but these are grown ass men. They have every right to decline if they feel that they are only doing it for the wrong reasons.

All I’m hearing is that if you disagree with Brisket, and you’re white, you must be a racist.

    Sure. You got me.

Well, the players have decided the issue, so that’s done. You COULD try to address it rationally, or you could do as the sole player you admire so much advised: take the loss, pussy.

    Your call.

You know what the players DON’T represent? All the other current students, professionals and alumni. You know, those people that have an equal say in what direction our University should go beyond the football field. That may challenge your subjective view as a White Knight for Social Justice, but you’re just going to have to live with that.

Sam sucks. You must have me confused with someone else.

And a thousand or ten thousand fans who are.

Wanna solve an issue, talk to the men who are involved. Don’t wanna solve it? Call them names and continue to do what white people have done to black people in America for 400 years: call them stupid and demand they do what we want. That’s worked out great for everyone.

    Oh...shut up.

He’s not running the table. He hasn’t even played the best teams in the conference. If we win 6 games, I’ll be shocked.

    This

We shouldn’t have beaten Tech. If the onside kick didn’t work, we wouldn’t have. If Ingram didn’t fumble, we have a decent shot at beating TCU. But Duggan would have had 1:29 to dismantle our defense and kick a FG to tie, if not score a TD. You can’t convince me that wouldn’t have happened. The only reason we had a shot against ou is because of a brain lapse sequence that stopped the clock by Rattler. They were the better team.

All this “Sam the Lionheart” bullshit is smoke and mirrors. We should be 1-3 right now.

nobody gives a fuck if this shitty team full of shitty players and shitty coaches sings the eyes.  go play school and get a degree.  we're Cal without the actual academic rep.  no one cares and we for sure don't care about being good in football, basketball or baseball.

This. You aren’t showing that you want to be here on the field, so why should I listen to what you have to say off it? There are a handful of players that I’ll even remember 5 years from now in a positive light. If a song is your breaking point, perhaps you aren’t the badass you think you are. Beating KU on a last second FG at home trumps your subjective feelings. If you don’t want to participate in singing after the game, that’s your right. It’s my right to continue the tradition, with or without you.

  15. We’re not going to “win”. We’re going to skull fuck their meth-addicted program until it gags while their trailer trash, snaggle tooth, piss poor trailer trash fans turn off the channel.

Holy shit - rocked a reverse sear tri tip w chimichurri sauce tonight. First time ever attempt at reverse sear or tri tip.

$16 tri tip roast. Olive oil binder w SPG simple brisket rub. Let sit.

Chimichurri sauce: Italian parsley, olive oil, red wine vinagar, kosher salt/coarse pepper/red pepper flakes, four clove garlic, fresh lime juice. Blend (but not too much).

Bring BGE to 250 indirect. Smoke tri tip to 120 or so. Pull meat, pull plate setter. Go direct heat at 500 to 135-140 internal temp, flipping every so often.

So damn good. My picky kids had 3rd and even 4th helpings (without sauce). The sauce for me launched it into orbit. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to get off the standard fare smoking/grilling go-tos. 16 fuckin bucks.

I smoked a Tri-tip with herbs and a homemade honey mustard glaze last weekend. Another good option.
