Meh, before Butler got to MIN all of Wiggins offensive numbers were comparable to Butler. This yr proved to me that Butler isn't as good as Thibs and more important, Butler thinks he is. In multiple close games this yr, he went into full Kobe-mode. He shot every single time down no matter who or how many were defending him. He almost single-handedly lost that last game of the season that got them into the playoffs.
Add in that Wiggins is 6 yrs younger and will be 10% cheaper and the choice is easy for me if I had to choose between them.
This is the case for Wiggins...... As players there's really no comparison. Wiggins is actually kind of a lousy player. Can't pass, doesn't really rebound, takes a bunch of long 2's, and is indifferent to defense most of the time. But Butler didn't really become a very good player until 24/25. Wiggins is 23. Butler will be 29, not really going into his prime, he's already in it and probably starts descending in a year or two. But on the court right this second, there's no doubt who the better player is. Wiggins is about to start a 25 million dollar contract, he needs to figure it out, but players don't always get better under Thibs. Someone said he may need a change of scenery and it may be true but again, very young, so Minny probably gives it another year.

Moving KI or GH for a draft pick doesn’t make sense. The only possibility is for a superstar.
Probably and I understand the opinion but if they get to the Finals and play a competitive series with Marcus Smart sticking to Steph Curry like glue, then perhaps they look at their pieces and salaries due and feel comfortable in their wings of Brown, Tatum, Smart, and Morris, who plays a 3/stretch 4. Maybe their inability to really protect the paint stressed with only really Baynes (who is UFA) of value (Monroe is a below the rim player who's value is offense), and feel to take their team to the next level, they would prefer to let their young wings grow, re-sign Smart, extend Morris, and get a true young rim protector. Now they're faced with decisions because Smart is probably getting 14/15 in the market. Gordon Hayward is a really good player but it was very debatable he's truly a max contract value player. They could move him to free up salary to do all of the above and engineer a trade up in the lottery to get a Bamba.... Then you're lineup looks like this:
Irving, Brown, Tatum, Horford, Bamba or Irving, Brown, Tatum, Morris, Horford. Bench is: Morris/Bamba, Smart, Rozer, Yabusele and then some veteran filler.
There's only so many minutes at that wings now that Brown and Tatum have blossomed this year. You could probably run out a all wing lineup with KI and Horford but as good as Al is, he's not Draymond and will be 32 and you'd be asking Tatum to defend some PF's.... Now, Dutchrudder and I were just throwing around some ideas and nobody is saying this is going to become a reality but if you're looking at the pieces, the salaries, and contract coming due along with roster construction and how to jump to the next level, then it's an idea that may warrant some merit. Then again, maybe teams up top don't want Hayward coming off a horrific injury at 31 million so there's that too...

This...did not age well.
"When asked who current GM’s would start a franchise around today if they had the choice of any player, more than 48% selected Towns. That itself shows what General Managers think about Towns and his versatile game."

His defense has really gone south..... He still young and very talented though. After his disappointing playoff run, if you still like him, this may be a ripe time to make an offer....

Where does this come from? I have seen several posters say it? Why does anyone think that Boston would move GH or KI for anyone other than Unibrow?
Cost. You have about 4/5 assets that could get you to 4 or 5 in the draft. No offense, but Rozier doesn't get you there especially with the teams at 4 and 5 in Memphis and Dallas. Both have PGs and actually a lot of guards. So if you're Boston, who would you rather move? KI, Hayward, Brown, or Tatum??? After this playoff run..... I'm thinking the first two as the latter two are cost controlled on rookie contracts. KI, Horford and Brown are up for new extensions close to each other. Hayward and Tatum the same, so eventually, Boston will have to chose between these assets. If you want to go get another superstar or get another future asset in the top 5, you'll most likely have to move one of those.....

They need to be in full rebuild mode. Not sure why they would be trying to trade the pick and not Marc Gasol
Maybe they want to move down, not out of the draft and acquire more picks? I think Gasol is gone by the deadline unless he says he wants to stay..... They need to trade Conley too but his contact is tough to movie.

KAT and the TWolves aren't simpatico according to beat writer and Zach Lowe....
QuoteAccording to Zach Lowe on ESPN's Lowe Post Podcast, Karl-Anthony Towns and the Wolves are not in a good place right now.
Lowe also mentioned local Minnesota reporter Darren Wolfson of KSTP had similar thoughts, and ESPN's Brian Windhorst mentioned that the Celtics could possibly take a look at a KAT deal. To be very clear here, there is nothing to report on a trade even being close, so just keep this in mind in July. The Wolves are not going to have cap space and they're one of the shallowest teams in the NBA. -

Id probably take a waiver on Porter over Luka if Im Sac. I dont trust euro guards, especially if they draw comparisons to Hedo Turkoglu and Toni Kukoc on NBAdraft.net
Maybe he's like Peja or Drazen??? Rudy Fernandez? Kirilenko? What other white Euro's can we compare him too?

Espn’s NFL deal doesn’t run out until after 2021 and they’ll still have boat loads of college football. They’re not getting out of the football business. They’ll probably extend mnf again....

I've only seen a few snippets of this show but it seems fairly benign..... I will say the combination seems weird if you're looking for broader appeal. Yes, Beadle is a woman and for 42/43 looks fine and credibility as a sports commentator, but she and Jalen are basketball centric. Shit, Jalen really only knows basketball. Beadle at least knows some about hockey and likes wrestling and pop culture. Greenberg cut his teeth as the Bulls beat writer so he basketball was his in but he's more of a football guy, although let's face it, he doesn't really know much of anything. He's a younger, dumber, less funny, pale imitation of Tony Kornheiser, but benign. I don't know if this was the best lineup. Beadle and Greenberg seem to bring the same kind of wistful anchor type of personality. Jalen is a specialist (like Barry Melrose is to hockey or Tim Kurkijan is to baseball) and can't imagine what he'll bring during baseball and football season. He doesn't know much about pop culture and seems lost half the time..... Greenberg is the star here so he'll stay but they may need to replace Rose and maybe even Beadle eventually although ESPN probably doesn't want to burn the female demo it's not getting..... I don't really care much but I do remember when they announced it and wondered how they would mesh. Seems they wanted a Neapolitan cast for the mornings....

The risk is that he's unrestricted, which ultimately gives him all the leverage if he thinks he can make up the money off the court....which seems to be the case.
One of the reasons (maybe THE reason) why the Cavs moved Kyrie is because he threatened to get season-ending surgery if they didn't trade him. At which point he would have zero trade value, and walks at the end of the season leaving the Cavs with nothing to show for it. Would Kawhi play hard ball like this? Do Pop+RC want to find out?Yea.... both sides have leverage and cards they can play, so it seems strange to say one side has all the leverage. Frankly, if he wants to move on, you let him and his team know they'll work with him to help him within reason. If he's too narrow in his focus are rigid in his demands, he'll cause the Spurs to be as difficult as they can. If the Spurs are too rigid in their requirements, he can do what's necessary to hurt his trade value. IF he wants to be gone, then both sides actually benefit to acting in concert, but that entails everyone involved is logical and sensible....

I kind of wonder if Boston would try to get into the top five to get Bamba. He would make a great replacement for Horford in a couple of years.
That's a great idea..... and they have the ammo for it. Not like he couldn't contribute immediately either. Probably have to trade KI or Gordon, who they may want to move.... which is crazy when you think they just got those guys a year ago.

I've read that Doncic's statement about not necessarily entering the draft this year aren't really the red flag some think they are. HIs team is in the playoffs and he's being asked after games and practices and said he hasn't made a decision and he and his team will make the decision after playoffs. That absolutely understandable..... I think he'll declare, Sac-town or not.

I'm not sure Curry's injured as much as he's rusty and doesn't have his legs..... I'm sure there's some residual discomfort but he looked like he had heavy legs and that comes from conditioning often. With 4 days off, I think he'll be fine physically but with more juice in the legs, his shot could follow....

It’s funny that you hear all the time about how ESPN is suffering because the old sportscenter formula is obsolete, but whenever they try something different like this or SC6 it bombs and does way worse than regular sportscenter.
The truth is they just have too many channels and airtime to fill. I would say talk shows are probably cheaper ways to fill the time than world’s strongest man and wide world of sports oddball stuff that is actually entertaining, but if they’re paying Rose, Beadle and Greenberg $15 million then that probably isn’t even true. What a mess.
They overpaid for a lot of their live sports programming, they didn't foresee cord cutting and therefore over baked their growth assumptions, they have too many channels, and didn't foresee sports highlights are more easily consumed online, and now they're scrambling for eyeballs anywhere and everywhere..... Basically they didn't understand or have the vision of what the internet was going to do to their older business model and are out of throwing shit at the wall.... They oversaturate their market with a good idea too.... PTI was great, then they cloned the formula and put it on for 20 hours a day. Reminds me of that Michael Keaton movie, Multiplicity. The clones are pale comparisons....

Almost none of that is accurate. LeBron is not on record saying that he would leave if Kyrie got traded. LeBron ok'ed the team discussing a deal that would have landed them Paul George and Eric Bledsoe. It nearly got done until Indiana backed out trading PG to the East. That's when Kyrie found out and got butthurt. LeBron was/is mad how little they got for Kyrie.
They got nothing for Wade. If LeBron didn't want him moved, he'd still be there. He wasn't a good fit. Cleveland's brass asked LeBron if it would be okay if they offered Wade the chance to go back to Miami, and he said yes. Wade jumped at the chance.
Not only this but the Cavs org did nothing but try and pacify Lebron the first go around, they did it very poorly but Lebron's wants weren't very good either. We've had this discussion on the old site many, many times. Larry Hughes, Varejao's extension, Mo Williams, Jamison, Shaq, etc, etc were all at Lebron's behest.....

While she showed some humanity, she is still all Team Russia, she is just switching to Team Gorb instead of Team Maintain The Norm.
Yea, but it showed that Phillip's influence finally got her to start asking some fucking questions rather than being a simple KGB instrument. Her country is being torn apart from the inside and she finally wants to understand the pieces on the board. She'll always be for Mother Russia, but at least she may not be a traitor to her country anymore. Claudia has a huge choice now.... and it's interesting. She could burn both Phillip and Elizabeth now as she feels they're not loyal to her group of hardliners. But if she does, Murdock..... they're coming for her. If I were her, I'd want to get the fuck out of Dodge, but we don't know who else she's handling.... if anyone. Thinking Liz kills Claudia next episode or in the finale.

So Doncic is saying he's not sure if he will come over next year. I don't think it's a coincidence that he said this just after the Lottery. He probably doesn't want to go to Sacramento.
Sacramento doesn't have a 1st round pick in 2019, so maybe they'd be willing to trade down if they could pick up somebody else's 2019 1st round pick.
If I'm Dallas, I would give up next year's 1st for Sacramento's pick. Or at least a pick swap next year. Consistently drafting in the 5-9 range is what leads to sucking forever like Orlando and Sacramento.Huh? You'd give up next year's first for the 2nd pick in the draft this year? Why would Sacramento do that? You'd probably have to give up your first this year and next year (with maybe some other balancers) to move up.... is that what you mean? Who would you like Dallas to take?

Miami still had Wade and Bosh. Though Bosh got blood clots and Wade's game aged poorly, but Miami was hardly destitute. Cleveland during Lebron's two runs can be a 30 for 30 on how not to build a NBA franchise. Giving bad contracts left and right to pacify one player, then having said player walk out the door, because those spare parts are really not that great, and getting stuck with their horrible contracts.
At least the Cavs had Kyrie to bridge the gap this time, until Lebron went Kobe on him, and drove him out.
While I totally agree with you as far as roster construction with regards to Lebron and his requirements to overpay vets with small windows to better serve his windows, my point was comparing OKC after KD left is much more in line with Miami after Lebron left as they still had Bosh, an aging DWade and some cap room. Bosh's medical issues really fucked them over.
OKC after KD left still had Westbrook, Adams, Dipo, etc. Cleveland got rid of everyone once Lebron left the first time and that was a pretty poor squad who were bounced pretty easily by Boston..... OKC - KD more equivalent to Miami - LJ that first year..... I think Cleveland will probably do the same this time around after Lebron leaves, because they bowed to his whims too much and the owner is an idiot.

Most won't notice, but Warriors fan will.... I'm still totally confused what led the Warriors to think they needed Looney, Bell, Zaza, McGee, Jones and West!!! And the whole time Zaza, McGee, Bell, and Jones are firmly glued to the bench. Now when they need an extra wing, they're pretty much fucked and IMO, they needed an extra wing in this series. Maybe they were looking at Utah or even Cleveland although I would argue that having the extra wing would be best against the Cavs too. If Iggy or Klay go down for 1-2 games they're fucked. Shit if Livingston goes down, they'll be searching for answers. Poor roster management IMO. Maybe they were hoping McCaw would come back, but that wouldn't make sense b/c he's still 2 weeks away from being re-evaluated.
