Yeah I started watching based on this thread and that I enjoyed the books years ago.  Very picturesque period, adds a lot to the show, and to The Knick, for example.

I don't have a problem with the portrayal of a young Teddy.  He's lost a mayoral election, had yet to be a Rough Rider, lost his ass in the West.  I don't pretend to be an authority on Roosevelt, but I don't think he had attained his bully pulpit status at that age.  Also, although he had shown signs of being a maverick outside NYC, the show portrays him as bumping up against larger forces in the form of ward heeler and blue blood elements that controlled a lot of the workings of the city, which I think is accurate.

Sean Astin was originally slated to portray Roosevelt and had even done some pre-production but scheduling difficulties with Stranger Things got in the way and they had to replace him with Geraghty rather late in the process.  Apparently, getting this story adapted was quite the challenge and took a number of attempts.

i dunno.  they finish @ houston, @ san antonio, @ denver and vs. utah.  that is not easy.  if the spurs win tonight, they'd only be 2 back.

They're still in the driver's seat as the Spurs have a very difficult end to their season as well..... but.....

    Quote

Damian Lillard hit 6-of-20 shots, 2-of-10 3-pointers and 15-of-15 free throws for 29 points, five rebounds, eight assists, two steals and a block, but suffered a potentially severely sprained left ankle in Tuesday's ugly 115-109 loss to the Mavericks.

As if losing to the Mavericks during a playoff battle isn't bad enough, Lillard, who never left the game, had to be carted from the locker room to the team bus after the game. "I think I have a pretty high pain tolerance but I’m going to be smart about it," he said after the game. "It’s the end of the season, we’re going into playoffs so I have to be smart that one thing doesn’t turn into another." The Blazers could potentially get caught by the Spurs, but are still the No. 3 seed with a 2.5 game lead as we type this. But with the Blazers in the playoffs either way, Lillard could end up resting his ankle for the rest of the regular season

In terms of our roster or based on their game?

I would prefer Tatum. Tatum is averaging 13.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists as a 20 year old. He's going to be really good.

I agree although Brown is very good..... I prefer Tatum and reportedly, his approach is more "Spurs like".  Again, this is way too early speculation with absolutely no foundation but since the conversation is being had.  We probably wouldn't get both although the C's are going to have spend some of that capital.....

Jesus Christ, how has Brandin Cooks been worth a 1st round pick two years in a row?

He's pretty good..... problem is his contract is up after next year and he'll get paid.....

At this point, I'm not sure how the Spurs could be comfortable with giving Kawhi a super max based on the injuries and apparent divide with the organization.

I hate to say it,but I think the right move is to make a trade and get value while you can.

The Spurs flipping Brown or Tatum with a high draft pick is a lot of value in return. Granted, that's complete speculation that the Cetlics would make that move.

This is pretty much where I am.  If he's willing to come back and ball out next year and prove he's healthy, I'm still not sure it's a great move to allocate 35% of your salary cap to a guy who's had some other injury issues.  Most are goofy and coincidental but he needs to prove he's healthy and still a top 3 player before I would offer the supermax and even then it could go very, very wrong....

Not saying history is in any way relevant, but if I'm an All-NBAer already gun-shy about my health, do I really want to play in the land of Gordon Hayward, Kyrie Irving, Isaiah Thomas, Reggie Lewis and Len Bias?

I mean..... do we care?  If Boston or any other team where we like the package is willing to risk it, do we really care what he wants?  If they're willing to assume the risk (sort of like OKC is doing with George), then you take the best package available.

Tony Parker called a players only meeting where the vets basically implored Kawhi to come back and play, or explain wtf was going on. It was allegedly very heated and emotional.

Unless you believe Danny Green..... Only the guys in the meeting really know how heated it was.  Regardless, it's not a good look to have your teammates wondering about your status because they feel they're in the dark on the subject.

  8. So, where are folks thinking Poona gets drafted?  First, second or third day?

What tech does he settle in?  Where do you expect him to play?  What team may benefit from him?

What success could he have?  Backup?  Rotational?  Starter?  Pro Bowler?

Cowboys currently have 10 WRs on the roster.  If they draft one, they are going to need to trade someone which likely means Bryant, Beasley or Williams will be playing somewhere else.  Moore or Kirk in the 2nd would be ideal but I doubt they actually slide that far.

We need one of the DEs to pan out.  Getting anything from Taco/Gregory would be a big boost but if we can manage to get Kony Ealy in here, things could get pretty crowded.  He's a Maronelli special and a perfect scheme fit.  That would push Crawford back to the DT rotation and likely would mean we could justify cutting his ass. Post June it would result in 3 million in dead money and 6 million in savings.

Elliott in the 4-5th would make me happy.

If they draft one in the top 60, it almost surely means they're moving on from Dez.  They may be already, but it makes the decision easier.  And we have 7 that count (Lenoir, Brown, and Cannon aren't really in the mix currently), which is still a tad high although we had 6 active last year.

What the NFL needs is more rules

They'd like less lawsuits and more youth participation...... but yea, I'm skeptical this will be an effective solution as well.

Jimmy Butler is going to make it back before Kawhi. Gordon Hayward will make it back before Kawhi. Embiid will make it back before Kawhi. Although somebody on Reddit posted Kawhi’s earnings if the Spurs super max him and I’m pretty sure based on those numbers that he’ll stay. I mean, $50 million a season?

This won't go over well her, but frankly, I'm not sure I would want to sign almost anyone to a super max deal under these circumstances.  I would want to see him healthy and producing before I invest that type of money.  The super max may end up being a terrible idea as it was installed during salary cap velocity which was unsustainable.

  12. Saw it tonight..... Didn't really know much about it nor have any real expectations.

It's a ton of fun for a certain generation and if you were a gamer.  I think other generations may not really pick up or get all the pop culture references they throw at you from mostly the 80's (some 70's, some 90's, some aughts).  Visually it's pretty stunning.  The characters are pretty thin but if you want a fun, visual popcorn flick then this is pretty super.  I sort of likened it to a digital, VR version of Willy Wonka.....

All the Easter eggs are a trip to try and pick up....

Eh, I listened to the interview, and I interpreted his statement as referring to every team gearing up to give the warriors their best shot on a nightly basis, which is a pretty common statement w/r/t being a defending champion. But I agree it looks silly in writing out of context.

Very much this..... What's he supposed to say?  It's so fucking easy out there as most of the guys playing are shitastic next to me and Steph.  The image and tease were intentionally supposed to take a rather innocuous quote and make it  controversial so folks would form or reinforce opinions and possibly listen to the podcast (if you weren't pre-disposed).  Looks like it was doing it's job....

I hear rumors that they were aiming to replace Wiliams, not Dez.  I dismissed it at the time but after the foot injury, I wonder how much truth there was to that.

Williams deal makes it detrimental to cut him at this time (7.25 mill in dead money, no cap savings at this time)...... TWill will be with the team in some capacity unless we can trade him.

I'm seeing a lot of him and this Clayton Vander Esch LB from Bosie State (queue the Bobby Carpenter comparisons because they're both white). There are LBs i'd prefer to draft on the 2nd day, but maybe we should just double up like we did with CB last year.

We need minimum 2 LBs, and most likely 3.  2 probably need to be ready to contribute on opening week, snaps and special teams.....

We don't necessarily have to draft them, but we need em'.....
