It is a good read. And it does not get any better for him. I read it right when it came out, but I thought they got their shit together in most units. Guess not.

No. not at all.  And when you see the disorganization, the awful behavior, the looting, the beatings, the poor equipment, the command structure, etc. etc. etc. etc. you just realize that it is systemic.  This is how Russia fights.  Always has, always will.

Sins are equal. We all sin.  Sin is rebellion against God and requires repentance.

So why do so many in the church lose their mind over certain sins and ignore and gloss over others?  Many focus on the sins that drive seats in butts and tithes and drive "my candidate" into power.

There's a good chance that church leadership that is seething over certain sins is covering up their own issues...

and its this type of behavior that kills the church's witness.

Hadn’t even thought about Tahoe. That’s a good idea to look into. I’ve skied Heavenly before and loved it. Way before kids. Purgatory a couple of times too. Good suggestions, thanks.

I think Heavenly is included in the Epic Day Pass... if you pick 4-6 days with the option to not include Telluride, Breckenridge, etc, the lift ticket prices should be decent.  I believe this pricing scenario covers Heavenly although Epic Pass Prices may have ticked up since then...

This is what I came here looking for. When my kids were young we’d always  go to Angelfire because it was cheap and it chaps my ass to pay big mountain prices when they’d only ski the same little runs over and over. But one year we got burned badly with lack of snow at AF and vowed never to do NM at Spring Break again.  The last few years we’ve gone to Wolf Creek because the families we travel with had a free condo in Pagosa. But I’m tired of driving up that mountain every day.

This year the girlfriend and her kid are going which rules out driving in one car. So I’m looking into places we can fly into. Hoping to avoid I-70 and rental cars.  Spring Break.

With 5 of us I don’t see how this will cost less than $10k.  I’d rather have smaller crowds and good convenience than epic terrain. We all snowboard blues all day, doesn’t take much to keep us happy on the snow.

Where else should I be looking?

I really enjoyed Crested Butte last year and it actually wasn't too bad for blues for my intermediate family members... from what I remember... it was kind of like... a reasonable amount of greens and blues, not a ton of blacks and a lot of amazing double-diamond terrain.  Crowds last year were manageable, staying on the mountain was reasonable at The Grand Lodge.  BUT... flying into Gunnison is not cheap.  We had good snow last year and the extreme terrain was 100% open.  Purgatory might be good but, again, flights... snow is better than New Mexico although it may be a lean year... blues not as good at Purgatory from what I remember.  Why not something by Tahoe (?).  Heavenly is a pain for snowboarders, though.  Lots of catwalks.

As a non-regular-church-attending follower of Christ, I'll take a shot at this one. :)  Your first sentence sure feels like you're trying to claim some personal persecution that I don't think is the point of most of this conversation.  Your next couple of sentences start with "I know"...but based on some posts earlier in this thread, regarding translations in the bible, I don't know how you can so confidently say you "know" what the bible says about homosexuality.

Is homosexuality a sin?  I'll admit that, prior to some of these conversations about translations, I would have confidently said "yes".  Now, I'm not sure.  HOWEVER, I don't spend much time worrying about it, as it isn't on the list of sins that I commit.  I don't say that to mean I'm proud of committing sins.  I'm simply trying to say that there is a long list of sins, and *all* fall short in the attempt to avoid them.  IMO, we should all be focused on the sins we personally commit, and not worry about the sins others commit (assuming they don't include a victim).

It always seems strange to me how society picks a subset of sins to get all 'up in arms' about.  Lust, envy, pride, etc. are all over our entertainment streams (and a huge part of most of our lives), BUT DID YOU KNOW 2 GUYS ARE LIVING TOGETHER ON THE OTHER SIDE OF TOWN???!!!!!!

Thank you... this is it... it is the focused obsession with one sin committed by others while glossing over other sins.  It is "ranking" sins... "THIS one is super bad BUT hey the political candidate I really like and support, well, I'm just ignore that he commits a long list of sins on regular basis because, see, being a liar has a better ranking" or when looking at scripture that has a laundry list of sins, some are "SUPER BAD!!!" but the Church whistles past the other ones.

Here's the funny thing... the Bible is not too happy about the rampant pornography problem that exists with males in churches but I bet that's pretty much being glossed over.  Too many people committing it in-house to get to up in arms about it.

Go back to the verse about the plank in your own eye...

  6. In college it was Coors Light and Keystone Light for me.  Now, I tend to drink drastically better beer but if I want to cheap it out, its a Lone Star for me.  Tecate used to be my cerveza barata but a couple bucks more gets you a 12-pack of Modelo or Pacifico so that's a no-brainer.

Thanks for the rec. Started it last night. Only about 80 pages in and can't believe how many "oh what the fuck" moments there have been so far.

Agreed - purchased it as well and am about half-way through.  Very enlightening.  Reading this book and looking at the Ukraine War makes you realize that the Russian Army is completely garbage.

For being a pretty cool little town Claremore has always had slim pickings when it comes to restaurants and bars.  It's a café town, Hugo's is an awesome breakfast or lunch.  Does Eat Place and Main Street Tavern are both downtown.  Will Rogers Memorial is cool, you should do that.  Beware of the train traffic, especially at mid-day.

I saw that seemed to be one of "the" places in town so I'll probably hit up a brewery or two in Tulsa... drive to Claremore and check in and hit up Doe's for dinner

  9. So let's say you've got meetings up in Claremore but you fly into Tulsa the day before around 2:30ish.  Ideas on how to kill some time?

I've been to Philbrook (long time ago) and I'm tempted to go to the Will Rogers Museum since it is in Claremore.  Any ideas on food?  I saw there are some breweries in the Pearl District.

    Obligatory: OU Sucks

  10. Was talking to a German friend today about various issues re: the war in Ukraine.  I mentioned how Russian bases/barracks look like homeless camps.  He said when he was younger they went to go visit relatives in East Germany.  One day they were passing these old rundown buildings with blankets and sheets to keep the windows closed.  He asked his cousin what they were and he found out their were the homes of Russian soldiers.  Had other interesting stories about what a ramshackle army they were.

    Same as it ever was...

Yet another area that the political right has perverted. They've turned "freedom of religion" into "my freedom to exercise my religion by forcing it upon others through the law." It's truly disgusting how this freedom has been perverted. "My religion doesn't like gays, so all books featuring gay characters must be removed from school libraries, or else my freedom of religion is violated." The fallacy is so blatant, the people saying it even know it, they just don't fucking care so long as they get their point across that they hate the gays.

Another recent example is the "In God We Trust" law that was passed in Texas.

  12. I am going to stay away from Italian discussions because I will drag 99% of your Austin Italian-American sacred cows.

So I'm going to go after a Houston Tex-Mex place that I don't think I've seen mentioned... Los Tios.  Hot garbage that only gets business because of its margaritas.  The food is awful... wife and I went to the Kirkwood location ONCE and her quesadilla had a bite taken out of it... clear as day teeth marks.

SPI? I've tossed around the idea of a condo there or in Corpus. But come back to the storm thing every time. Would it be worth it to have a place with that hanging over your head?

I grew up on the coast and the house I grew up in was destroyed in Ike. It's all just a matter of time.

That's just it.  Its just a matter of time.  Like you said, the sword of Damocles
