Bermuda is a lot hardier than St Augustines and will hold up better for your situation.

Sure it's ok to seed those areas with Bermuda seed but when your sons soccer obsession fades IMO having 2 varieties of warm season grasses mixed together looks like shit..

If you choose to seed those areas, find hulled Bermuda grass seed and sow it an inch or so and keep it watered/moist, not saturated.

Also you will want your night time temps staying above 60 before you plant.

I'm in Houston so we're close to hitting that point, as you can imagine.  Thankfully or not, I don't think my son's soccer obsession will end anytime soon.  He's pretty nuts for soccer.  If any when that time comes, I'll just cut out those portions and then put in new sod of St. Augustine.  Don't want to do that now since he'll destroy it.  At least the Bermuda will look marginally better than bare dirt.

We have bare patches thanks to my son's soccer obsession... you've seen me complain about it frequently.  My lawn is St. Augustine but would it be OK to seed some bermuda grass in those patches?  I figure anything would look better than bare dirt.  Healthy part of the St. Augustine looks good.

Welp, for the time being, keeping them off the lawn for a week by spreading compost and manure.  Now the question on the bermuda grass in the dirt spots?

  3. My kids were worries when we took them up to this glacier exhibit while we were in Switzerland but they were fine... its located just underneath the world's highest revolving restaurant at 11,480 feet... they were only walking around and I had them drink water before we went up there.  If anything, it's a little weirder being inside a glacier.

  4. There's no doubt that A-Basin can throw people off so, yes, I get acclimating at Keystone.  Agree about water... went to Copper Mountain once and had not had enough water and I was white as a sheet.  Then water water water and everything got better.  I preach that repeatedly to my kids.

  5. Not nearly as bad but these were the winds below the Felskinn station at Saas-Fee... this is about 1,500 vertical feet below the top lifts where the wind was supposedly brutal.  Once you're in glacial territory, there's nothing to stop the wind.

One hour later, everything but the learner lifts was shut down.

Get used to it.  It's only gonna get worse brah. Sitting in Breck with young Onboard, the 26 year old version. The only reason I'm faster than him this week is because he has a torn ACL so no skiing for him (pre ski tear).

ACLs are overrated.  I ski without a right ACL (completely ruptured last season)

  8. Guys guys... 275 pesos for tequila in Mexico?  Please y'all... get yourself some high end stuff for Mexican prices.  Don't bother with the cheaper stuff.  I'd rather pay $50 for a bottle of pechuga in Mexico knowing a) I can't find it here and b) if I do, I'm paying $200.00.  You can tequila of that other quality all day long in the US.

  9. Look at these beautiful skies... unfortunately, during six days of skiing, I saw skies like on one day and a half-day another day which was a massive bummer.

This picture is a more accurate representation... and once you're dealing with a ski resort that has most of its vertical from 2200 - 3600 meters (aka 4600 vertical above treeline), whiteout conditions and windstorms kind of suck.

That said, when the weather was good, the views and long descents were amazing since you could ski from the top glacier down the bottom and cover about 5,800 feet.  This is the view at mid-mountain from Saas Fee.  Across the valley is Saas-Grund.  Both resorts have to content with glaciers although they are a much bigger issue in Saas-Fee so once you get to a certain point, off piste is a problem without a guide unless you want to find out how deep the crevasses are.

If you did have someone guiding you, you could end up with some cool hidden runs and couloirs

An example of the issues with glacial terrain... as you can see, most of this was off limits and untracked.  They won't stop you from going but you assume responsibility.  In fact, we saw a helicopter rescue taking place one night at 9 PM as two climbers had to be rescued from the top glacier.

  10. Will post pics from Saas Fee soon.  Weather was definitely iffy during our trip with some days when all lifts were shut down by high winds since 80% of the mountain/skiing is above treeline and the wind on the glaciers was crazy strong. Still, had some good times and came back without an injury.

do you have the quattro formaggi or the regular one?

Ti Sport with RWD, not QF.  Had a chance to drive it, though.  Sniffed 100 before I could sneeze.  All that power from the rear is something else

The Italian likes Alfa Romeo?  I know I'm surprised.

Sometimes I pull a rabbit out of my hat.  I had two Germans prior to the Alfa... I really enjoy driving it much more.  The infotainment kind of sucks and I wish I could disable the auto-off button but the driving experience is amazing.

That Jalopnik article was crap.  How do I know?

As an Alfa Romeo Giulia owner, I've enjoyed every bit of it.  Love the driving experience.

BTW, like Stelvio is named after Passo dello Stelvio, a mountain pass in Italy, Tonale is named after Passo Tonale, a mountain pass and ski resort.

My last Mercedes had more problems than my Alfa.  Thanks airmatic!

I put them on when I do legs. That way it's easier to take off the 45-pound plates, but not on curl bar.

Actually, I totally get that... just not when curling.  Of course, curling in the squat rack should be a punishable offense.

I bought a lightly used pair of Lange's, and also got some Surefoot fully molded foot inserts and liners for about $1,000. Very comfortable to wear and ski in, but very tight and hard to get on and off, which makes sense since its molded. You obviously ski alot considering your posts so might be worth looking into.

I wish I skied a lot... not nearly as much as I like.

  17. So, this boot discussion is intriguing me...  thinking of seeing if I can find and end of season deal while in Europe and schlepping them back.  What are good prices on boots, typically... for high quality boots, that is.
