  1. I usually like to do 5-6 days but I can't say it is a full day each day.  Normally days 4-6 are when everything "clicks" just right so I like having extra days to get everything working properly.  Day one is always a bit of a mental adjustment but good.  Day 3 is almost always my "off" day.  I'm just excited that my youngest is progressing in that the next place we visit, at least in the main resort, I think he will be able to tackle quite a bit of the mountain.  We'll see.

    From Wine Enthusiast:

The Best Wine Shops in Texas

    Lolo Wine

    Austin, TX

“Lolo Wine is easily my favorite wine shop in East Austin,” says Will Ryan, a beverage professional. “It’s a shop and wine bar focusing on mostly natural wines. They hold events and bring in local DJs and musicians to play. The location is killer too, right next to a bunch of food trucks and great dives.”

    Marfa Wine Co.

    Marfa, TX

“[It’s] a tiny little wine shop filled with a great selection of natural, minimal intervention wines” says Briana Volk, owner of The Portland Hunt and Alpine Club. “You can buy bottles to go or hang on their patio and enjoy them as well.”

    Sunrise Mini-Mart

    Austin, TX

“I really love the fact that one of the best wine shops in Austin is in a random corner store north of the city simply because one person took it upon himself to make it happen,” says Gabriela Acero, owner of Wolfpeach. “It’s absolutely incredible. No fear, no concern about the ‘market’ or the “demographics” not aligning with natural wine or wild beers. It’s a powerful reminder of the simple humanity of beverage, and that anyone, anyplace can attain the knowledge to curate an incredible program. And furthermore, that anyone anywhere deserves to have access to these beautiful beverages.”

I really like Lolo although sometimes I don't feel like heading over there.  When I don't, we go to Meteor on South Congress which has a great selection of wines and good food to boot.  Meteor is underrated.

On a side note, I enjoyed watching some winemakers on Twitter ripping apart Meomi (and doing the same with other "trendy mom wines").  Love seeing winemaker perspectives.

UH90 might have been more rowdy and loud but I remember that game was either a night kick or at least a 2:30 kick.   The amount of booze involved was staggering.

It was a night kick in the days when every boot held a flask

    This hits close to home.

I lived in Austin when there was a glass raw material shortage. You should have seen the run on Topo Chico at HEB.

Some of us had to drink the HEB version... I still have flashbacks of the aftertaste.

  5. So GameDay is on the LBJ Lawn.  The Big Noon Kickoff is where Big Beertha should be.  Isn't there a third show coming? (no, not Today Show).  Every Given Saturday Tour?  I have never watched it so don't know jack about it.

It's terrible timing for sure, they should have figured out a way to delay the work for just one more month.

But, it's also nice to see them proactively doing maintenance on a still-functioning system, rather than waiting for things to completely break down, like other nearby municipalities I might mention...

I lived in Houston when one of the water mains broke that supplied water to half the city.  You should have seen the run on bottled water at grocery stores.

City of Leander posted that they are going stage 4 restrictions, no irrigation what so ever for the next month
so no more rain would only make sense

Yes but that's due to some water main issue... not related to the drought.  But yes, craptacular timing.

I think I live in your part of town 78749 and this one above has a cone on because she likes hunting outside. Not sure what ripped up her tail - $700. Fine now but

Hopefully she survives going out but the foxes and chayotes are dangerous . I tell my daughter and wife she can’t be out at night

The cat is a badass I admit. More of a dog really. Luckily my dog scares off a lot but she’s normally on the couch

Yup - we're an adjacent zip code but right by lots of greenbelts, parkland, etc. so lots of wildlife out here (love the roadrunners).  We have two neighborhood cats that like to hang out at our house and they seem to be doing fine but you do wonder at what point they will disappear.  We can think of two other neighborhood cats that disappeared within the past two years... most likely coyotes.  Sometimes you can hear them after a kill in Circle C park.

GVTC in New Braunfels on Ch. 50 (SD) and 550 (HD)
Harris Broadband in Brownwood on Ch. 10
NTS Communication in Lubbock on Ch. 59 (SD) and 686 (HD)
Phonoscope in Houston on Ch. 580 (SD) and 1580 (HD)

  10. Had cats since the day I was born... can't imagine a house without one (well, two).  We have a Siamese Mix and Snowshoe... great cats.  Agree they are best inside... outdoor cats are ruthless hunters and, at least in this part of town, eventually end up becoming acquaintances with coyotes or foxes.

He's the exception aggy.  I have a friend like that.  He dishes it out, but he can take it.  Most aggy dish it out, but can't take it.  I'm still maintaining that he got DENIED by UT admissions.  But, he's my kind of prick!

Good way to put it... he sees it as a two way street.  I'm down with that.  Talks trash but doesn't get all serious and butthurt when he gets it back.  I know some aggies who get all turned upside down when you piss in their Cheerios.

Props to any weather guy who with a strong meme/gif game

Couldn't get into Texas most likely.

Avery is Houston born and Austin raised, attending Eanes Elementary, Hill Country middle school and Westlake High School. All the while, a nerdy love for the wild weather in Texas was brewing with every passing winter/ severe weather event. The decision to pursue a meteorology degree at Texas A&M was an easy one, though the passion for TV weather would come during his senior year at Westlake.

Actually, he's one of my favorite weather guys in Austin... has a generally strong meme game, doesn't hype up weather and is entertaining to watch.  I'll give him a pass.  The funny thing is that people are responding to his tweets and he keeps purposefully throwing fuel on the fire.

  13. "But please remember what I've said here when you wonder why we aren’t all “RA RA SEC” like pathetic schools do. "

Blah blah blah all the other stuff but I hope our students and moron bandwagon fans don't start the SEC SEC chant once we are in the SEC.  The only acceptable time to cheer SEC SEC SEC is when beating a strong SEC team while still affiliated with the Big XII (a la beating Georgia).

EMT's used to sit directly behind out seats.  Every early season game, their radios never stopped going off about someone fainting, overheating, etc.  I know Kyle field has "chilling" rooms (similar to the produce/dairy rooms at Costco) for people that are overheating - does DKR have something similar?

I've seen some before but maybe they're not so much chilling rooms and more "lay down before you die" rooms.

  15. I've never been to B/CS.  I guess I got close once when we went to Messina Hof like 25 years ago but I've never set foot in that pit.  My goal is to make it to he grave before going to College Station or Pyle Field.

Learn me on the Epic Pass because the website is confusing and when I called, I got a South Asia call center.  If I buy the Epic Season Pass (or a 5 or 7 day pass), is that good to cover lift tickets as well?  It's unclear to me, but it's a good deal for us, because if we go to Park City in March and Vail in the summer, we can use the pass in Vail for the rides on the mountain in Vail and Breck,   It just seems like the lift ticket cost may be on top of that?

So, I've only purchased the pass I described above... I'm not familiar beyond buying a Day Pass but I bet someone here can provide insight on how it applies in the summertime.  I do know that when we used the Epic Pass, we were able to get discounts on all kinds of ski-related items that were through the resort (in our case CB)
