I’m eating some leftover pizza from my kid’s birthday party at Urban Air…I’m basically an expert now. But thanks.
Hahaha, yeah, I went through some of the Italy thread already and also thought about hitting you up. She has been talking to Brazilian friends that have been or watching Brazilians traveling there. She has already booked most of it. But if I have doubts, I’ll hit you up.
Well, I do have one question you might know something about. Are the catacombs in Rome worth it? They aren’t as famous as the Parisian ones, but it is something I would like to photograph. The catacombs in Rome most likely laugh at the Catacombs in Paris since they were there over 1500 years before... that said, the creep factor in Paris looks like its on another level.
Are they worth it? I mean, I think they're very cool... I'm not sure how well they photograph but there are three sets of catacombs by the Appia Antica and I love the Appia Antica. I visited these many years ago - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catacombs_of_San_Sebastiano - and the whole area is great because it is generally quieter than being in Rome, especially during the week. Haven't been in a few years, though. Also a big fan of Ostia Antica as it is also drastically quieter than Rome. This is a good site to 1) see more about Ostia (https://www.ostia-antica.org/intro.htm) and 2) take a step back into time as the Italian Internet experience can often feel like 1997

Truly fucking enraging. These dickheads appear to have been well-heeled and well-connected. I don't know much about Baptist or politically active conservative circles in Houston, but there are undoubtedly posters on this board who do and may even know them. Why the silence?
Man... I don't know... I know one of the people referenced in these articles. Its all very disappointing, frustrating, maddening... all the "ing" words that would apply here. All I can say is that time has gone on and I have watched the behavior of people at places like Second and the general mood and attitudes towards Trumpism and the GOP's tilt towards extremism, I want nothing to do with the SBC and the majority people who fuel a truly toxic culture that does nothing to reinforce or promote the message of Christ.

Good call on the DF being nearby and easy. I should get a hall pass from my wife and fly down with my Pops (he is into photography as well).
Just staying in "safer" areas like Condesa and Roma you'll be exposed to amazing architecture and streetscapes... great people watching. In Coyoacan and San Angel there's gobs to see and take in. You can also take a driver to places like Tepotzlan or other small pueblos magicos. I can recommend a great hotel in the heart of the hipodromo in Condesa.

I've been there twice for long trips (was married in a small town on the Amalfi Coast) and covered some decent ground. I love that country -- the terrain, the food, the history, the people.
...and I'm more than happy to answer questions about Italy as best as I can. I have a defined opinion on how to travel in Italy but that doesn't always jibe with what many want to do, particularly first-timers.

Other than all over Europe, the furthest we've been has been Toyko and Taipei, Australia and down in Argentina/Chile. Usually things go well... other than a long story involving guns, zip ties and police rescue in Buenos Aires. For real though, go travel... especially given the types of pictures you like to take. Easy and amazing start... Mexico City. Go there.
Agree with Tokyo... little English, totally safe, people/food are amazing, Google Maps is your friend.

Oh man. Crazy roads. Really tight. Also everybody in the northeast drives 90+ on road trips. Imagine if I-37 from San Antonio to corpus is bumbler to bumper but everyone is going 90+
Speaking of, the stretch between San Marcos and San Antonio probably gives Houston a run for its money on the worst drivers. Pretty much all of San Antonio sucks.

Went by today for lunch during the soft opening. If you've passed by the building on E. 6th and admired all the paste art and graffiti, the renovation is really stunning. What they have done inside is simply amazing. Great food... kitchen is already running like a tight ship. The vibe today was really upbeat - like you could tell everyone was very happy it was finally open (technically opened on Wednesday, official open is tomorrow). Our group has the gumbo (get the gumbo!), wedge salad, veggie sandwich, shrimp sandwich, sports club sandwich and the fries. Thumbs up all around. Franklin was making the rounds and we talked to him for a while - seems really happy to see his vision come to fruition. It's going to be a popular place... definitely got quite busy by the time we left.

If you are NW you might consider Maggiano's in the Domain. Good covered parking for drop off, with covered garage steps away. Weather is a bitch sometimes around weddings.
Request: Hey let's do something Austin-like
Answer: Not only Maggiano's (chain) but Maggiano's at The Domain (least Austin-like place in Austin)

You might want to turn it down while still keeping the volume on.
Well, as a native speaker, I'm pretty much floored by her speech... first because of the passion behind it and her anger and second because the far right/fascist-leaning a-holes helped her get elected and who like Putin and eat up his propaganda are getting kicked to the curb. This I did not expect and props to her.

Yes, and 20 sucks because we were making some progress in 2022 and after 2021 BUT anytime people use raw numbers of murders in Austin (# of murders vs homicide rate) remind them that the glory days of Austin... you know, "the good ole days that are gone and now Austin sucks" were deadlier.
Oh...and in this shows numbers from 2019 but using the numbers from 2020, 2021 or 2022, Austin would not sniff this list... https://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/murder-map-deadliest-u-s-cities/3/
