  1. Really well thought out, Elron...

"A car absorbing the impact around the driver is a pretty critical piece of crash safety. Not only will stainless steel divert more of the energy of a crash to the people inside, the metal is difficult to work with when it comes to minor fender-benders. While tougher than traditional steel and fiberglass vehicles, stainless steel is a pain to repair once damaged. The flat body panels also make any damage more obvious, but it seems to be the best way to utilize stainless steel, considering it is difficult to stamp and bend."

And the aisle seat. Fuck, I’m getting old.

Yeah, F that... I'll say, I try to avoid shows like Moody because it costs your left testicle to be close to the action but like smaller venues like Antone's or Far Out where I can get right up to the front and get into the show.  We opted to go to Duran Duran in Houston so that at least we would pay for cheap seats but hang out on the lawn with friends rather than cheap seats on the roof of Moody.

Shut the fuck up, you massive vagina. These are kids doing stupid shit and they’re gonna pay for your poor avocado-stained walls.

I’m gonna take this back to ‘96 and guess on what happened. The Westlake kids are the brains behind the operation, and this poor guy’s White Claw filled “mansion” is in Westlake. Some Lake Travis girls were invited because they’re like Tech girls, hot and slutty. Some Bowie jackasses were inadvertently invited and threw the guy’s tools through sheetrock. Because Bowie.

    What if Rihanna was invited?

I don't worry about this being a sign of age, I just view it as them being clever enough to create a playlist that caters to awesome people. Like me.

For real... I mean, I was at Trader Joe's once and they plated "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash.  Same store, different visit, "Love Removal Machine" by The Cult.  That only means that store is kickass.

I don't even know what local radio even plays outside of assumptions. 90% of the time I stream via my phone and the remainder is satellite radio.

AltNation and XMU are really good for this (depending on what music you like).  KUTX, Sun Radio and ACL Radio are a good way to hear some new stuff, too.

I hear a *lot* of the "there's no good music anymore" from people my age group (mid-40s). Usually these are people who were big grunge fans in high school and are waiting for the next Pearl Jam.

First off all, lol.  Secondly, I always tell these people that this is literally the greatest time ever for music because you have access to an infinite catalog of new (or old) music and can explore everything on your own without being told what's good by FM radio or MTV.

If they insist that they've scoured all of those resources and they still can't find anything good, I just tell them that they're old. Then they get pissed off.

Yeah, I don't get this either.  With Spotify you literally have access to E V E R Y T H I N G (just about)... and when you find something you like, the app can help you find similar music so you can go in to something like ACL and not yell, "Who are these bands!?" but actually find plenty to enjoy.  That's what I like about the lineup release... I print it out and start searching and you find some great bands.  Some of my favorite shows from this past ACL... Wet Leg, Kevin Morby, Goth Babe, Nation of Language... yeah, even Oliver Tree... were not on my radar two years ago.

So, yeah... they're "old" because its not that there isn't any good music... there just isn't any good music that they specifically like.  Besides, in a town like Austin, you can always catch a show by a band you used to like... The Fixx was earlier this year, Psychedelic Furs in May, Ministry/Gary Numan/Front Line Assembly in April... (speaking to my tastes here)

"And I don't mean the $300 Bruce Springsteen limited tour but rather local acts for $10 on a Wednesday night." - I'm hitting up the HITW next week... Antone's still easy to see a show for $25... Far Out Lounge usually $20 and under.

OP needs to get off Facebook.

Here's the winning response.  Yeah... no doubt I swear I see some people becoming old slovenly fatasses with grumpy opinions on just about anything/everything.  Its the same people who shake their fist at God when the ACL line-up because some 90s band isn't in the lineup.  I just haven't gone down that path... I try to stay an optimist so that's why some of the bitching just grates me but, yeah, I should just let those people wallow in their misery and go on with my life.  Its a different way to say, "I don't care what you think"

Where do I start the thread of minivans and Crocs?

  8. Reminds me of the old El Rancho Cima Boy Scout camp that was damaged in the Wimberley/Blanco floods of 2015 (?).  Beautiful land.  Some was bought out by the Nature Conservancy, I think, but the rest is getting divided up and sold for development.  Still, looks like they saved the best parts...

Not sure I fully appreciated going to Boy Scout Camp back then but it was a pretty magical location.

Yeah, I got a new chainsaw chain, but not in time to harvest any of the fallen wood stacked up on our block.  HOWEVER, a lot of trees took a similar beating in the greenbelt behind our house, so I plan to go harvest some fallen wood from there.  Then build a nice stack, and let it season for a year or two.  Might as well lay in a supply when mother nature drops it for you, even if we can't burn it for a year or two.

Crews near us have been leaving nice piles of well cut wood at the bases of trees.  Went and collected three wheelbarrow fulls today... probably have 1/3 cord of new wood chilling for a season.  Might go collect more this weekend.

  10. Watson going to do jack about the new homeless encampments?

"I'm sure there was an uptick like this during the really big proliferation of Dirty Sixth in the 80's and 90's...we just didn't hear about it with limited media."

That's part of it... no one had social media to whine and bitch publicly or to see everything that was going on.  I routinely point out that the per capita homicide rate was higher in Austin back when I was in college (you know... the good ole days when Austin was a small hamlet full of lovely people) and yet people casually ignore that and point to the overall numbers.  That's not how statistics work.
