On this morning's "OTF Today," Gerry and Bobby were discussing QB recruiting and heights of 6 feet and under regarding KJ Lacey vs. Keelon Russell and that height lends to higher ceilings. Gerry then went on to say that Russell Wilson didn't want to go to Wisconsin and that he wanted to attend Texas, but Mack passed him over because of his height. This was something I wasn't aware of.

TIL height makes ceilings things higher.

Performance of "Up and Coming Coaches" during Sark's tenure at Texas:

    • Blake Gideon - Blessed as Muschamp's choice, has one more year to prove himself
    • Brennan Marion - Good choice, bad results
    • Tashard Choice - Great choice, great result
    • Chris Jackson - "Who is this guy" grade for choice, good results so far
    • AJ Milwee - What would he be without Sark?

Performance of "Established Coaches" during Sark's tenure at Texas:

    • Andre Coleman - Bad choice to retain, bad results
    • Kyle Flood - Great choice; amazing results
    • Jeff Banks - Great choice, great results
    • Jeff Choate - Good choice, good results
    • Pete Kwiatkowski - good choice, good results (finally)
    • Terry Joseph - "Meh" choice, "meh" results
    • Bo Davis - Great choice, great results (depth chart is underwhelming though)

Milwee is probably his own category. It's striking that Sark, Flood, Banks, and Choice are among the best coaches in the country at their position. Davis was the only defensive coach in that conversation. If I had to rank them it would be something like:

    1. Flood
    2. Choice
    3. Banks
    4. Kwiatkowski
    5. Jackson
    6. Joseph/Gideon

Nansen and Baker are TBD and there's a pretty big gap between Jackson and Joseph/Gideon. I don't really know where to put Milwee.

Well, prepare your anus.  Apparently only full blown excitement is acceptable today.

@SydneyCartonIf I have time today I’ll try to do a little research and at least suggest one name who I like more based on their resume and who isn’t obviously not a candidate, just since you issued the challenge.

Someone's going to do it so it might as well be me... I suggest your mom. She's a sack master. She's good one-on-one, but isn't afraid to take on a double team. She knows how to use her hands, is good with twists and stunts. Has a quick get off and knows how to finish...

Thank this is my hit rn. Am I reading this right:  his overall grade was just under Collins’ but his isolated Run defense grade would have been just under Murphy?    Also his “Tack” would be second only to Sweat?   Is that “Tackles-made”

if so, that’s not a bad pick up at all.

He's a good take, but it looks like the difference between him and Collins is similar to the difference between Murphy and Collins. There's a pretty big gap there. Murphy, Collins, and Sweat all improved 10ish points over the previous season so if he shows similar progress he'd have a really good season. If Collins does the same he's in Sweat/Murphy territory. That's a big if though.

Having played rugby against Polynesians in my past I have a theory that their bloodline adds an extra 40 lbs that scales just can’t comprehend

I lived in Samoa for a while in my 20s. I'm reasonably athletic and was in pretty good shape and regularly got my ass kicked in the village rugby game by 9th graders.

  6. Bama is hard to project. They've recruited really well on paper, but have had to rely on the portal for WR and RB and their OL isn't very good. They are probably still top 5 in overall talent, but it's uneven. They could follow the Ohio State path under Day where they are deeply flawed, but still top 10. They could follow the OU path under Lincoln Riley where they kept up appearances for a couple of years while slowly falling out of contender status. They could look like LSU/Auburn where the stars align for a championship run and then everything goes to shit. None of those would surprise me.

DeBoer has to prove it without a 25 year old transfer QB before he’s a home run

DeBoer seems like a really good coach, but there were some odd aspects to his team. They had a bunch of older guys and yet their defense wasn't great. Despite having an elite passing offense, they weren't effective running the ball. It could be a fluke, but someone like Norvell seems like a much better bet.

Yep, I was reporting Live to my buddies flying in today and tomorrow on shit at Miami airport, landing at St. Thomas airport, time spent waiting for luggage at baggage claim/ bar serving drinks in plastic roadie cups at baggage claim, and ground transportation to local accommodations. (Mexican fell into the last group.)

No humble brag yet. I am not standing in a Frenchtown hotel like my married friends, I am staying in a less-than ideal AirBnB in a convenient part of town (West Amelia)  that is near the cruise port.

The first neighbor I saw when I arrived to the dilapidated building (that somehow looked better on AirBnB looked like he might charge me for a fight…

    …but backed down.

But I peeked down through a window today and the cock look like he was waiting to start something.

If any of my married friends arriving soon had booked this spot, they likely wouldn’t still be married by Valentine’s Day.

The humble bragging will start tomorrow when I board the Sea Dream yacht as one of 110 guests of the “birthday couple” (Austin native girl/ Dallas native guy) as we take over the entire “yacht” for 3+ days & 3 nights as we dock around the British Virgin Islands on the hosts’ dime.

Have you don't anything yet that didn't involve cocks today? Wait, nevermind. I don't want to know.

I imagine that the pac2 is not going to get a bye next year.

I thought the top 4 was the top 4 conf champions? Meaning they couldn't put 3 SEC teams in the top 4 on years where they have a ton of depth.

Never mind. I was wrong. The NCAA page doesn't say the top 4 champions get the top 4 seeds. However, the announcement did say that. So your original scenario could play out.

This doesn't say the top 4 spots are reserved for champs: https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/2023-12-03/how-12-team-college-football-playoff-will-work-teams-schedule-bids

    This one does: https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/2022-12-01/college-football-playoff-expand-12-teams-starting-2024-season

If Oregon is 11-1 and already locked up for the B1G championship game, you would think that they would rest players knowing they are in the playoffs and that a win in the CCG gives them a bye, rather than playing for seeding.

Conference champions get an automatic bid, but are not guaranteed a bye. At least one conference champion will not get a bye each year given the number of conferences. Also, at-large selections could be among the top 4 seeds, which we saw with TCU last year (under a very different setup, but still...). So seeding will probably matter enough to keep teams from sitting their starters. Or at least enough that it is a rare occurrence.
