  2. Camera angle cracks me up. Oh hey look there’s Surly on his phone. Good luck.
  3. Thanks for the report. This is one big reason I haven’t played yet. I love the game but also really enjoy the social aspect of sitting at the table and chatting about sports or whatever. Things are starting to loosen up so I’m hoping to get back to it this summer.
  4. I took my friend to get J&J at CVS on Monday and she did well with it, only mild headache next day. When I did both Pfizer shots at CVS a month ago there were decent lines inside the store to get the shot. On Monday, there was only one other person getting it plus my friend. Different CVS but same city.
  5. The popular Ryder Cup may not be the same this year, and the PGA Tour could be impacted as well. Many big names in golf have received multi-million dollar contracts by the new Saudi Arabia-backed Premier Golf League that could force players like Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott and Justin Rose to at least contemplate joining this new tour, Telegraph Sports is reporting. Eleven players have received up-front offers of between $30 million and $50 million, according to the report, with Mickelson supposedly getting a $100 million offer. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan is expected to host a players meeting Tuesday night to address the issue. This league would feature up to 48 players taking part in 18 events in tournaments around the globe. There would also be a team ending championship at the end of each season. The belief is it would start in 2022. “The money is there,” one agent told Golfweek on condition of anonymity. “I heard $1 billion. This is real.” It was thought this new endeavor wasn’t a real threat when the PGA Tour bought an estimated $90 million stake in European Tour media operations. More recently, Golfweek reported that the PGA Tour created a $40 million Player Impact Program that was said to reward the top players for promoting the game. But the Premier Golf League isn’t going away. https://nypost.com/2021/05/04/pga-stars-receiving-30-million-offers-for-premier-golf-league/

  7. 100%. I find the historical background of Vegas fascinating and the evolution into what it has become today. So many colorful stories of the characters who shaped the town or spent time there.
  8. LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- Effective May 3, Wynn and Encore will operate their gaming areas at 100% capacity, Wynn Resorts announced on Monday. This comes after the company says 88% of its employees have been vaccinated against COVID-19. "As a result, Wynn Las Vegas has been granted permission by the Nevada Gaming Control Board to amend its occupancy and physical distancing requirements. ... plexiglass dividers will be removed from all table games and slot machines," representatives for Wynn Resorts said in a statement. Employees will continue to wear masks and follow health and safety guidelines. https://www.fox5vegas.com/coronavirus/wynn-encore-gaming-areas-to-run-at-100-capacity-effective-monday/article_eaa0d05e-ac65-11eb-9da3-534124d03047.html

  11. Google search shows a few articles about him. Casino host originally from Texas. Also: Vic is credited with being a co-founder of the World Series of Poker. Tom Moore and Vic Vickrey, in 1969, held the Texas Gambler’s Reunion in Reno. The following year the reunion was moved to Las Vegas and hosted by Benny Binion. The event was dubbed the World Series of Poker and the rest is history.
  12. Unsolicited recommendation for anyone interested in some Vegas history, this 2014 book details the Texas background and rise to prominence of gaming legend Benny Binion. Fascinating read. Goes into his shenanigans around DFW area and then on to Vegas. If you search hard enough, there are still a few old timers around who interacted with him and have stories to tell. This recent tweet from poker legend Doyle Brunson reminded me of Binion and the book. Tony Spilotro is the Joe Pesci character in the movie Casino. 13. First two items would be where do you want to stay and which sports book? They could be the same but don’t have to be. So figure out if you want the higher end or mid-priced places or do you want the more locals feel. My guess is you want one of the big on the Strip spots. So investigate places like Wynn, Caesars, Westgate, Circa, MGM Grand, Aria, Bellagio. Some differences in the sports books but they generally operate the same. Keep in mind that while you can place bets in person, you can now download a betting app for most of the casinos and place bets that way if you prefer. You might get some first time betting bonus cash that way. Next thing to look into is booking a seat for that college football Saturday. Call the sports book in advance and ask how that works. Most of the big spots are now charging for a seat during peak times. Post any other questions here and maybe we can help.
