  1. The best way to signal that you're progressive, enlightened, and not-racist, is to tie absolutely everything back to race.
And now that nothing else racial about the shooter came out, it seems those dudes slunk away.

Sounds like you get accused of a lot of racism.

Fifty years of neoliberalism has been devastating.

Socialism for the rich; capitalism for the poor.

It's a rigged game. Corporations can't fail, and when they do, it's not the rich whose taxes prop them back up.

A single-member S-Corp (doctors, lawyers, consultants) got more in a single PPP loan than a service industry worker got in both bailouts/stimmies combined. That's fucked up.

"Too big to fail" means the rich get to eat up market share within their industries with subpar companies, while people out there who could probably do it better can't get their small businesses a foothold in the same industry, because the barely solvent companies owned by the uber-elite aren't allowed to fail and create market share for better companies.

    I'm a capitalist. That's not fucking capitalism.

But you also need to exist in a society that would allow life (Chitowndoc) to crawl out of the primordial soup (lower middle class Oklahoma) with a lucky combination of atomic particles.

This would be a hell of a lot easier for more people if the top few percent of uber-elite rich families weren't hoarding a large majority of our country's wealth and resources.

And let's be real, while lower middle class white Oklahoma is a tougher starting point than most of Surly's kids will have, it's not really that big of a setback. I came from a similar social strata and becoming upper middle class was not difficult at all. Being white helps. Being male helps. Having access to technology and decent public schools helped. Let's not compare those experiences to the starts a black kid in the poor areas of Michigan or even a poor white kid from rural Mississippi have. They're worlds apart.

The whole social mobility thing is great, and we should all embrace it. But the deck is stacked and it's becoming worse. In prior generations working class man could buy a little house in the burbs and support an entire family, have two decent cars, and live relatively well. Working class. The professional class struggles for that in 2021.

If you are an advocate of social mobility then you should also be an advocate for un-rigging the game.

Do you want a country just a dick hair better than Nicaragua? Do you want a country filled only with technicians denied the opportunity for intellectual improvement that was once common to university education? Is this the best path?

You just asked a Republican if they want a country that has a singular goal of wealth creation for the oligarchs, without bothersome things like science, art, or diversity of thought.

    That's utopia.

  5. Has anyone noticed that (with a couple of exceptions) the FitLump Daily Texan thread is now completely devoid of our MAGA/Qanon friends?

She's an incompetent grifter who lives on catch phrases and lowest common denominator talking points. They know she's one of them now.

You’re saying the Psaki video does it? She says some migrants that have already been set for deportation, and therefore don’t need a court date, are being released without one.

That’s not the same thing as what the NBC news story is saying. They actually link one of these documents releasing someone with court date TBD. That didn’t debunk shit.

That doesn’t even consider why someone that is selected for deportation would be released in our country.

TIL that an event that's TBD is actually not going to happen. I guess we canceled Texas Football past 2021 as well since those dates are all TBD.

He posted back in 2018 or thereabouts that his employees were paid 8 per hour and that there was more overtime than they knew what to do with. I feel bad for those folks that live a life where their boss pays them an absurdly low wage and that he honestly believes they enjoyed all of that overtime. They worked like that because they are just trying to survive.

Not to mention feeling bad for them because they have to go into work every day and report to a guy who gets his worldview from Facebook and Alex Jones. Oof.

Can you give an example of whatever this is supposed to mean? The farthest left you'll get in Congress is AOC and Bernie. Can you give any example of them throwing a fit for not getting their way?

What are you even talking about?

    So petty and small.

Not so much politicians as message board posters who throw hissy fits when Biden hasn't implemented the entire progressive agenda in his first 30 days as president.

That kind of tone will never get you a job offer from @markstanco's company of eight dollars an hour with all the overtime you can ask for.

Is that real? I'm aware that lots of stupid people end up running companies due to family or just dumb luck, but damn. I can't imagine going into work every day knowing that my boss is someone this stupid.

It's wild to hear the reporting on Biden's political perspective since the pandemic started. Before covid it was all "nothing is going to fundamentally change," now he seems to really want to be like FDR. His entire concept of what's politically possible has done a complete 180. Obviously part of that is because events have forced a shift, but I never would have predicted we'd see anything like what he's showing.

I'm pretty pleasantly surprised. He's not going to knock out every item on the far left's "do all of this or it's tantrum time" list, but he's going to end up having done a lot of things that I think most realistic people would not have expected. Seeing him actually advocate things like removing cap gains tax loopholes for the rich is almost shocking for me. He's a corporatist for sure, but he seems to actually be at least aware of modern issues like income inequality, clean energy, etc. He's governing to the left of what I expected. And he's doing it in a way that's making him hard to attack from the right, because he's doing stuff that everybody wants.

I respectfully disagree with the bolded and have not seen an argument in it's favor that makes sense to me.

However, because apparently some of you people believe this, I don't mind adding some qualifying language and instead will not say "China Sucks"  but "China, the CCP/the state of China Sucks"

It's picking nits. but I'd find it offensive if I were Chinese just like I'd find it offensive if some European came up to me and said "America sucks!".

In that case, apologies, and I'll go back and reread and see where I whiffed.

I'll explain, no need to be mysterious. I agree with everything you said. I'm just saying that I agree with the general concept that the statement "China sucks" is a xenophobic statement, even if that isn't the intent of it. "The Chinese government and general business environment sucks" is more than fair.
