  1. Releasing Dez Bryant is what stupid teams do. Dallas is a stupid team, so of course they released him. For the "Dez never got open crowd", if you're curious you can check out WR Average YDS of Separation in 2017 which is a good ( not great, but certainly not bad ) indicator of how "open" a guy was. A few names from that list . . . Antonio Brown - 2.6 yards Dez Bryant - 2.4 yards A.J. Green - 2.4 yards Gronk - 2.2 yards DeAndre Hopkins - 2.1 yards Mike Evans - 2.1 Alshon Jeffrey - 1.8 Also, anyone that references 2015 in regards to Dez's stats is just being flagrantly dishonest and should be ignored.
  2. There is so much wrong with this I don't know where to start. I didn't write that Dez is worth that much. I'm not a fan of the current roster and I don't like the moves they are making. Cutting Dez + Tyron having back problems is a recipe for disaster. This offense was bad for long stretches last season, and those numbers had nothing to do w/ Zeke going out. Dez is most certainly not a one trick pony. Dez's problem is that his QB can't do what he needs, which is to hit him on the move and let him get YAC without having to start from a stopped position. Dallas WRs were near the bottom in YAC, and most of that has to do w/ what Dak is capable of right now. Dez has never been an elite route runner, but the idea that the only thing he can do is run down field is idiotic and refuted by large amounts of evidence.
  3. Blowing a 2nd round pick for 1 extra year of a safety is the type of move you make if you are going ALL IN like the Rams or Eagles. I'm fan with that, if that's the play. But don't tell me that Dallas should cut Dez, which would ensure the offense is not good enough to win the title for the next couple of seasons, then tell me we should burn a 2nd rounder for one extra year of a safety.
  4. I would like to go on record as writing that cutting Dez is a mistake. This is type of thing dumb teams do, and Dallas fully qualifies as a stupid team. Dallas could potentially be a 5 win team in 2018 if Tyron Smith's back keeps acting up.
  5. Dez is gonna be gone as of Friday afternoon. https://twitter.com/fishsports/status/984134350584377352
  6. I wish they would just blow it all the way up. Saw a tweet today that last night's attendance was the lowest since 2010. Fans are tuning out.
  7. I endorse a similar view of this. Going to games is a communal experience, or it should be, and if the game atmosphere does not replicate that environment then it's not really any different than going to some random general assembly only you're paying a shit load of money for it. If the only interaction kids have with a sport growing up is watching their dads consume it on television, then it's not really any different than than being a fan of 60's style campy television series.
  8. They are going to resign him, I can't see how they don't. I hope they don't take a guard in 1, but interior OL is really bifurcated in this draft. If they don't take one of the 3 first round quality Guards ( 4 if you think Williams is a Guard, I personally don't ) in the 1st round, there isn't really anyone after that until the 5th round w/ the exception of Va-Tech's Wyatt Teller, and he's a round 3 - 4 type guy only if you're running a lot of Power / BoB stuff. Not a scheme fit at all for Dallas. I would much prefer them take McGlinchey or Williams at 19 and just ride out an over-priced La'el Collins contract
  9. Mesero is a tricky restaurant for me. I think their food is great, yet every time I go there I get the bill and go "that cost 20% more than I think it should". Their margaritas are absolutely out of this world though.
  10. I do agree that it's not Collins fault he got spun down to the 1 when he's clearly not that type of player. I personally don't think Collins is a high quality 3 down 3-Tech because he's been so mediocre against the run, but if he was just a 2-Deep DI pass rusher he's perfect for that.
  11. By this logic the uber athletic DT at a some random 3A high school that takes snaps at TE in the redzone has "positional flexibility" in college. Lining someone up at the 9-Tech spot while you have 3 other down lineman and telling them to hit mesh point as quickly as possible doesn't make some a DE. It's not like he was taking reps working on defeating hand-replacement moves, or developing a speed-to-power pass rush move. Same with LB - he's not stacking and shedding, he's not working on defeating OL blocks, he's not honing his scraping skills. The dude got lined up to the Field side of the play and got asked to hold the Boundary . . . whether that was at the Wide-9, or whatever FSU's term for a $backer is, or at either SS or FS. That FSU defense that Kelly called relied on traditional split-field safeties as well, so let's not pretend he was doing something dramatically different between FS and SS. I personally don't think he can be a Man Corner, out wide or in the Slot, in the NFL - this is the biggest point of difference to me between him and Fitzpatrick. So if I don't think he can play Corner in man, he can't play DE, he can't play LB, he can't play the $backer if you run a lot of man ( i.e., the Cardinals), you're left w/ a guy that can play Safety ( FS or SS ). In fairness, I do think he could play that Earl Thomas Cover 1/3 FS, which not a lot of guys can do. Positional flexibility for a DB comes down to 1 thing for me: are you the swiss army tool that allows me to change my coverage shell with just the players on the field by asking you to switch responsibilities or positions? If an inline-Y gets out of stance to become an F, can I rotate you down to man up against him? Vice-versa, if an F motions back to a Y and suddenly the offense is in 12 personnel, can I trust that you will man up against the TE and hold the boundary if there is a Sky call? Could I run a press-and-bail w/ you as my CB if the X or Z motions inside of the slot? Of these 3 things I've listed, I'd trust him to do the 2nd but that's it. I wouldn't want a team filled w/ these guys, but having at least 1 of them on the field for you is an enormous benefit.
  12. I have the same view of him I do of Ridley - he's a specialist that I would take in the 2nd, but not the first. He's a great Mike with outstanding instincts in the run game, and good instincts in the passing game. If I'm Dallas, I'd love to have in the 2nd to sit in the middle of Sean Lee / Jaylon Smith, and then serve as an elite special teams guy and 2nd team move linebacker.
  13. My hot take for Easter weekend is that I'd rather have Minkah Fitzpatrick than Derwin James if I'm Dallas ( based off of what I know, which certainly isn't a lot about the personal side ). James took a ton of plays off last season, his best season was 2015, I don't think he has positional flexibility. Fitzpatrick would be an split safety on 1st / 2nd, then on 3rd down you can put him wherever you need that week. He's already demonstrated he's a great slot corner in man, he's got all the instincts to make a killer robber safety, he would be great in 2nd level zone coverage as well.
  14. No, I I wouldn’t take Ridley in the first unless I had a QB and system that relies on a WR getting quick separation out of their break, like SF or the Pats. To me, he’s a route specialist, not a genuine #1.
  15. I can't remember the last game I dove into to the degree I have Zelda. Granted, I've got 3 kids 5 and under so I don't have a ton of time to play, but it's consumed almost all my playing time since the end of July. I just finished all 120 Shrines and I'm in process of farming to get the "Armor of the Wild" upgrades, then it's finally time to take on Gannon. Not really sure what's going to be next for me. My oldest loves Splatoon, but I'm not sure I'm down for it.
