  1. It's hard to say what could've happened without the recipe or pics - can you post them? I made some last week and added some sourdough starter leftover from a refresh. It adds such a great flavor. Here they are after the bulk fermentation and before an overnight rise in the fridge. Finished
  2. It can take up to 3-4 weeks to get one going from scratch, so don't worry if it feels like it's not doing anything. What flour did you use to get it started? Whole wheat? I almost exclusively make soudough, and a few things that are nice to have (but not completely necessary are) a stand mixer, pizza stone, Silpain, and banettons.
  3. Cards Against Humanity released a family-friendly, free, online printable version. Will probably try to play today.
  4. A girl I went to high school with died Wednesday (obit here) and I am much sadder about this than I thought I'd be considering I haven't talked to her in ~20 years. She was married to her HS sweetheart and he was a good friend of mine back then. Last May she was diagnosed with a rare high-grade neuroendocrine cancer that started in her endometrium. She fought hard but it was so aggressive - about a month ago they found tumors everywhere in her body. Brain, abdomen, everywhere. Just two weeks ago she finished whole brain radiation, and last week she did another round of chemo. I guess I expected her to drift away more gradually, but it sounds like the latest round chemo put her through the ringer. She took a turn for the worse overnight and that was that. She was 40. Here's to Amy.
  5. So...Schitt's Creek doesn't have its own thread? I just dug up the guitar tab for Noah Reid's version of Simply the Best. I'm definitely a fan.
  6. Just finished. I went into the whole thing expecting it to be mindless entertainment I could laugh at, but overall it was just sad. And skeevy. Saff is the only one who seemed to have his shit together. I can laugh at idiots being crazy and doing dumb stuff but the fact that they were likely abusing those animals on top of everything else is just awful. I hope Jeff and James get their time in court too.
  7. Right? That's the worst part. Cedar ends, the weather gets gorgeous, and we still can't enjoy our decks and patios without suffering.
  8. Today I've had a god-awful sinus headache since about 9 am. I'm wearing sunglasses indoors because every light is too bright. I'm about ready to just burn everything down and go live in a bunker till the end of days. Which, by the looks of it, isn't far off anyway.
  9. Bruce, my 140# Newfie doesn't give a shit about where his harness hooks. Pulls like a train regardless. Yeah I imagine a dog that size can outpull anything. Rocket is 90 lbs and a combination of front hook harness and loose leash training on walks has made a huge difference.
  10. He broke even. RIP.
  11. Anyone else miserable today? Mold and oak, maybe?
  12. Is that a Rabbitgoo harness? I love the front leash hook - the best thing for walks if you have a dog that loves pulling.
  13. The article says that Timberlawn closed - are you referring to another place? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. They explain in the article but the gist (as I understand it) is that he didn't have to disclose his past criminal activity because he was a juvenile when it happened. And his family was able to keep it out of the news for the most part so it wasn't a case where everyone knew about it and would recognize his name several years later. 15. This month's Texas Monthly has a fascinating article on a shooting that happened at Murchison Middle School in 1978. A student walked into the classroom, shot his teacher, and left. The shooter was the son of LBJ's former press secretary. He spent a few years at an inpatient rehab facility in Dallas, then went to law school at UT and still lives in Austin. I've lived here 21 years and have a student at Murchison and have never heard of this. Great read if you have a few minutes.
  16. Ah, sorry, the donate link isn't easy to find - here it is.
  17. If there's a thread for stuff to do during isolation that's not geared towards kids and teens, point me in the right direction. For now I'll just share this here - we are huge Geeks Who Drink pub trivia fans, and if anyone else is too you probably saw that they had to lay off just about all of their staff. But, because they are awesome, they are going to do livestreams of quizzes on Twitch, and you can donate to help keep those going - right now it's basically run by volunteers. They did the first one tonight and while it's not quite the same as doing it at an actual bar, it was still fun and brought a small sense of normalcy to our lives. Twitch channel here.
  18. In our house, when a dog is laying on you you are exempt from having to move from your position lest you disturb the dog. We call this dog law. Everyone in the family knows that if the person the dog is on needs something, the other family members are to get it for them or help them out in whatever way. Need a drink refill? Invoke dog law and someone will do it for you with no complaints. Need to go to the bathroom? Sucks to be you because you can't get up. Etc.

  20. AISD offered curbside lunches to children who need them yesterday, and if schools are closed after Spring Break they'll do this M-F starting March 23. The full list of locations and times/details is here. Also, if anyone has young kids and is trying to figure out how to entertain them during this time of social distancing, someone posting this sample schedule on FB and it's a pretty good jumping off point.
  21. So you did find someone to take him, or are you still looking? I can share with the folks back home if he still needs a forever family.
  22. Yeah, people who live in covfefe houses really shouldn't throw stones. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Right, like he's always yelling. He reminds me of Craig on Parks and Rec. THIS WINE IS FROM SOMEPLACE BEAUTIFUL AND WARM AND AMAZING WHERE EVERYONE IS IN GREAT SHAPE AND THE NIGHT SKY IS FULL OF STARS!
  24. I have nothing against Bernie personally but out of the remaining Democratic candidates I think he's the least likely to beat Trump. I think if he gets the nomination it almost assuredly gives Trump the win. Way too many brainwashed GOPers who lose their minds when he describes himself as a socialist. I mean, I voted for Warren and I will vote for whoever the Democratic candidate is in the national election, but if Bernie gets the nomination I'm getting ready for four more years of Ol' Combover.
