  1. I graduated with Chet. I love him but I'd be shocked if he voices support to change the mascot.
  2. They still shut down every Friday night during football season. It truly is just like Friday Night Lights.
  3. Yep. So do the drum majors and the Indian Spirit - that guy has a whole elaborate getup in addition to the headdress.
  4. I wish I could say that this whole thing has been a long setup for that joke. Bravo, sir. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Someone suggested that the new mascot should be a golf cart. I laughed way too hard at that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. For those not from southeast TX, the rundown is that in 1925 Port Neches-Groves ISD (or whatever it was called then) decided that their mascot would be the Indians. Every school in the district, not just the high school, has as its mascot some kind of variation on the theme. The high school is called The Reservation, etc. In 1979, the district got a certificate from the Cherokee Nation calling them "ambassadors of goodwill". Every time the question comes up of whether or not they should change their mascot, they bring up this certificate. Well, last week, the Cherokee Nation formally rescinded that certificate and asked them to change their mascot. As you can imagine, people are losing their shit. This is the superintendent's response: Of course, now all I'm hearing is "we don't need their permission anyway" and "the chief now is a leftist Democrat and I don't think he represents everyone in the Cherokee nation". This is a Beaumont Enterprise article about the superintendent's response. He and everyone else there are doubling down. For the record, I don't think they will change the mascot - there would be actual riots if that happened. But this is as close to change as I've ever seen.
  7. Then that's not a real union recognized by any labor relations board. There are no real teachers unions here. Ok yeah, this was my understanding - my husband's a teacher and is in one of these but it has never functioned as more than a standard professional organization. That's why I was confused.
  8. Are you in Texas? I thought teacher unions weren't allowed here.
  9. I love it! He's so majestic!
  10. Was thinking the same thing. It's nice till you try to breathe.
  11. He likes it like that and it's not a hill I'm going to die on. Also it's not like he's going anywhere for anyone to see it.
  12. I'm sure Edgar is directing that loving gaze toward my child and not the pizza in his hands. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. We'll make a game time decision but right now I can't see how this is going to work. There are so many logistical questions. Such as, giving people the option to stay or go means that teachers will be creating curriculum on two platforms, which is nuts. Will they livestream classes for the ones at home, or have to add extra Zoom sessions? And, in the classroom, there can't be group work because the kids can't sit by each other. And, how in the world are they going to work in all the 504 accommodations? Etc.
  14. See I didn't realize people didn't know about it until recently.
  15. Rocket is about the wine, not the label.
  16. He is going to be a huge pupper! Love!
  17. I assume you never attempted to watch The Pallbearer.
  18. Well of course you need this. Angus is so regal already.
  19. The thing that finally got Edgar to barf was hot mustard. So....that's an option.
  20. When Edgar chewed up a bottle of Benadryl they had to give him 4 times the normal amount of emetic for him to barf. Took about 45 minutes. Luckily he had just eaten the bottle, not the Benadryl. Both my dogs have iron stomachs.
  21. OMG how badly did you lose your shit? I'm getting ragey thinking about it and it wasn't even my dogs. I'm glad they weren't hurt.
  22. Mine have both eaten everything under the sun and have been fine - it being one of those small darts, pr chewed up, wouldn't worry too much if he can't barf it up. Rocket ate part of a rope toy and we didn't realize it till this. I'll spoiler because it's kind of gross, but if you want a hint, we call this pic String Butt.
  23. Yeah...I mean at this point, you have to ask, what is it that the roux contributes to the gumbo? First, it's the dark color. In absence of a wheat flour that can toast to a dark brown without burning, Kitchen Bouquet can help. Second, it's that rich, toasty flavor. If you use low enough heat, then theoretically, you should be able to toast a nut flour as dark as you can get it without burning. The other main part is the thickening aspect. Luckily, toasted nuts in general have a thickening aspect in and of themselves, so hopefully that by toasting them as brown as you can get, they can also add a bit of body to your gumbo. It will probably take trial and error, but I do think you can get there. Please let us know. Everyone deserves gumbo, allergies notwithstanding.
  24. https://crownandpaw.com/ The actual canvas comes in tomorrow and I. can't. wait.
  25. Ugh, I'm sorry. My parents have pugs and they always have terrible allergies. In addition to meds they eat some super expensive all-natural food that helps a ton - I can find out the exact one if you want. Dad used to drive to Galveston every few weeks (from Groves) to buy it since they couldn't get it shipped there and because he's obsessed with his dogs, as any good dog owner is.
