  1. It's texts, not calls. And you're right. We all know going in that we're going to get a lot of responses like that, and as soon as someone responds that way, they get a "thanks!" and we move on. Our purpose is to help undecided voters learn about Beto, not to try to turn hardcore Cruz fans. And there are a surprising number of undecideds out there.

Ted Cruz has to go and Beto is a more than adequate replacement.

I can’t believe there are millions of Texans that like Ted Cruz enough to vote for him at all.

When phone banking for Beto last week I ran across a few people who said they would neverneverNEVEREVER vote for a Democrat. So there's your answer.

Yeah, the conversations I have often go like this:

Person: Who is Beto? Never heard of him.

Me: He is a candidate for Senate.

    Person: Is he a Republican?

Me: No, he is the Democratic candidate. Can I clarify any of his positions on the issues for you?

Person: Uh why would I vote for someone who wants to kill unborn babies and take away my guns? Go away libtard. <---- This is an actual quote from someone I talked to. But there are lots of variations on this theme. The minute you say "democrat" you've lost them.

  3. I don't think there's anything wrong with admitting that you like a film that you learned to like as a youth, while also acknowledging that certain elements are outdated and are now considered inappropriate in some schools of thought. Animal House was on a few months ago and I hadn't seen it in a couple of decades, and I found myself cringing at parts that had never given me pause before. I think you can accept something for what it is, given the context at the time it was made, and be ok with admitting that you should think and/or do things differently now that times have changed. It doesn't mean you're a snowflake; just that you're capable of growing and changing.

  4. Edgar has always been a really heavy chewer - took us forever to find toys he wouldn't tear up in a few minutes and that didn't give him tummy issues like those roasted bones. These water buffalo horns are his favorite toy now. They last forever -months- even though he chews on them all the time. I've even caught him sleeping on them like pillows.

  5. There were exactly two black people at my high school when I was there, and they were siblings. PNG was in no way diverse. But, when we lived in Port Arthur, I went to Tyrell Elementary and then Booker T. Washington, and BTW at least was pretty diverse. I was in the magnet program there and it we had people from all walks of life. This was in the late 80s.

  6. This story has been weighing on me the last few days. Those poor people. And the woman who lost most of her family? I can't even imagine.

Couple of weeks ago we were at the lake and I jumped off the boat into the water just for a minute, to cool off. My 6-yo, wearing a life jacket, wanted to get in too, but as soon as he did he lost faith in his life jacket and started to try to climb on me. Now, I'm no Olympian, but I'm a competent swimmer and this was not an emergency situation, and I still had to grab on to the boat ladder to keep him from pushing me under. In still water. Those poor people didn't have a chance.

austingirl is posting this on the public board because she wants to remove the pretext for you to PM her dick pics, after the 35th message she received which simply said, "Hey, when's the Beto thing?  So cool that you're into that.  Anyway, can you help me with this: [image redacted]?"

Nah, I'd just tell y'all to knock it off with the dick pics. I don't have much use for beating around the bush.

Uhh, we weren't worse off, but there were (and obviously still are) a lot of people who weren't doing well in the pre-Trump status quo. I think BT is particularly angry because getting rid of Trump and a few Republicans isn't going to move this country forward, we need to take this opportunity to make full wholesale change to benefit those who have suffered the most due to their race and/or economic status.

Ah, you're talking about on an individual level. I guess I was thinking more in terms of our country as a whole. But I understand what you're saying.

If you would rather have W in office than Trump, then you are really a Trumpkin, and bt has no use for you.

Purity tests.  What a nifty thing.

Well, there are a lot of ex-presidents I'd rather have in office. Most of them, actually. But besides that, saying "Well, THIS guy sucked and you didn't mind him as much, so you can't complain" is a shitty argument.

Do you think our new friends believe this and support this?

    Every accusation a confession.
    Both sides.
    But Hillary.

But seriously Brisket, what do you even want besides the opportunity to wring your hands dramatically? Do you want Donald Trump impeached? Do you want Dems to take Congress in 2018 and the presidency in 2020? Who do you want to be the Dem candidate in 2020 and why?

I've asked a few times and I get nothing, but what do you guys actually want? I think that, for some of you, part of your collective hysteria and fury is that you don't actually know.

What is your ideal for 2020 or 2024? If it's a return to the pre-Trump status quo, that's might not even be worth fighting for. If it's something new, what is it? What is the larger social and political movement that led to Donald Trump's election and what do you want to see happen beyond a few more Dems in office?

Look at Ghost's call to the rep. Vague "direction" talk. Nothing specific. Ever.

Not Brisket, but as he and I have similar thoughts about our current administration, I'll tell you what I'd like. I'd like a leader who at least pretends he prepares for meetings with heads of state, openly condemns white nationalists (especially after they lead such efforts as in Charlottesville last year, doesn't side with Putin over his own advisors, and is man enough not to try to convince the public that he meant to say "covfefe". For starters.

  12. Saw this today - it's a new documentary about Fred Rogers and Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. As a kid growing up in the 80s, it was a staple in my home, but I never truly realized how progressive he was. There's a few times when he and Officer Clemmons cooled off their feet in a kiddie pool and then shared a towel, right around the time white people were dumping chemicals in pools while black people were swimming in them. Then there was the time Daniel Tiger told Lady Abelin he felt like a mistake and they sang a duet about it. And in the very first week, in 1968, King Friday built a wall around his castle to keep people from moving closer. So the rest of the people in the neighborhood sent him messages about kindness and inclusiveness and he realized there was nothing to fear, and he took down the wall. I shit you not.</p>

Anyway, it's playing at the Alamo in the Austin area. I highly recommend it. Even though you will be sniffling at the end. I can't seem to embed the trailer so here it is.

There were two dogs that were dropped off, possibly more, but only two when we got there. One they called Lakota and the other Takota. We got Takota and renamed him Loki.

We also go ours at Humane Heroes, but it was a litter of 4 puppies and they named them Edgar, Allan, Poe, and Lenore. Edgar and Allan were solid black and Poe and Lenore were tan with black markings. We loved the name so we kept it Edgar. Maybe Loki and Edgar have the same baby daddy.
